Returning player; from 2013 last played

i noticed i literally can’t use anything i got.

my chips are disable; had to jump clone to one with less valuable chips, still unusable;

my ships can’t be used, my modules can’t be used, my skills are locked.

so after fiddling around for 20minutes to figure out how to get into a ship to go test stuff;

it wasn’t a very good experience; so i guess this post is mostly to say “what’s up with this?”

after plex completely ruined eve-online ecco i stopped playing; just wanted to see if it was worth checking out again; but been a hassle.

Before you go again, friend, anything you might contribute to me (a new player) would be of great assistance and sincerely appreciated!

Did you Omega? The free to play version of the game is basically just an extended trial. Player income has increased drastically since you last played, so ofc PLEX will go up in price.

ty, but last i played was in 2013 ^^

so my knowledge off anything right now is none existing hehe.

yer i noticed ^^

didn’t feel like subbing to check out if i want to get back into it ^^

but guess that is the way to go ^^

think i am just annoyed over the hassle i had trying to just undock a ship to see what’s up xD

Most things happen within corp and alliance comms/discords, otherwise you are just going to be a source of content for others.

You wouldn’t have been able to do anything in 2013 without subbing as that was the only way to play lol.

As free (Alpha) player you can only use a limited amount of ships and modules, this is new for you.

In the past you needed a subscription to play, now you can fly many ships for free but it sounds like you’re trying to fly your subscription (Omega) based ships.

Either get a subscription or try to use Alpha ships instead!

Welcome back!

Hey, hang in there a bit. I came back 2 weeks ago and had the same reaction as you. Most of my stuff is stuck in safety asset wraps and taxed at a rate I can’t afford (really CCP, you should reduce this for long time returning players).

First suggestion is youtube Loru. His videos are great to see how things are currently done and give you lots to research before going Omega.

Eve is very different and the same. A lot of clutter and in-your-face activies. I think CCP don’t want players to miss ANYTHING, whereas we were more used to discovering these ourselves though interacting with the environment and other players. Right now it feels like I can make this a single player game if PvP is ignored.

After that, it’s all the new modules, ships, hi and game mechanics that have changed. There are articles on the eve site that talk to this to a small degree, but ignores critical things like bubble nullifiers and no clone insurance, etc.

Finally, get used to this Omega thing. It is over complicated IMHO but what we have right now. Having played the game before, you will not have a good experience as an alpha.

My advice: take one month Omega and get back into PvP or pve in a small way, then re-assess. Oh, and clean up your navigation tab, remove what you don’t need right now.

Is nothing new. Its the subscription you’ve always had to pay to be able to play, we’ll with an increase.

They added the alpha clone several years ago to give people a chance to play longer than 2 weeks to see if they like it

Back then you had to pay to even just log in, outside the 14 day trial. So you going “I have to pay to fly my ships” hasn’t really changed at all, you had to pay back then as well.

However, these days you can play for free, with limitations. One of those limitations that certain types of ships, modules and skills are not available to you. So you can either choose to play just like you did back then (paying with full access) OR you can choose to give things a go but with some limitations which generally means using more basic ships and modules.

Crying just making you look like a fool.

True, perhaps to be more specific it’s not the Omega thing but rather the monetisation thing. Paying is nothing new and plex has been there since 2014 ish. What has changed is how it is being monetised and omnipresent. The amount of deals, the complexity of them, buying SP, etc etc. Once I’m in the game I’d like to focus on the game itself, not be reminded about deals left and right.

Anyway, not going to go on a rant but rather to say that this aspect does feel very different to back then, when you paid for a subscription/ETC and that’s it.

It’s been around WAY longer, around 2008 iirc. And before that we had GTC.

Well a lot of folks used to rumble about new players will never amount to anything cause they cant catch up to vets.

The “deals” are mainly for those who won’t or dont want to sub, and remain a free player without contributing to the game, as that can entice them to spend some money, especially to get up to 20 mil SP.

yer and GTC was called plex back then :stuck_out_tongue:

was a bit weirded that its now a microtransaction currency with rl money exchange xD haha.

well played around a bit in it, can still use some off my “faction ship+faction only gear” to play around a bit. it’s ok, much like old days, besides the amount off adverticing, popup, pushing everywhere for you to buy stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

but that’s the deal off microtransaction games now ^^

hehe reminds me a bit off the change in antivirus programs. in the olden days they where just there, now they constantly popup with “deals” and pointless info xD

all seem to use the: overload your people, fomo them, keep pushing them, and see if you can’t catch the people with the heaviest mental issues in the trap :stuck_out_tongue:

one BIG pro i will give eve-online; my superduper rare modules back from 2013, are even rarer now xD haha

i do like that its still best in game xD you never usually see that, especially after 13 years off not playing; but its nice all my hard work hasnt deteriated to nothing :stuck_out_tongue:

(i am lacking a tobi tracker and a deadspace multispec, though o.O don’t know how it dissapeared, everything else is there)

Well, it definitely confused here.

Omega = old subscribed, Alpha = new F2P version with limits.

A lot of fanboys will call it a lot of other things, I will refrain form calling it other things to explain why here.

Also look out for the Omega = 2x training speed, that CCP standard advertisement tactics. Omega = 1x training speed (the same we had for the first 10-12 years), Alpha = 0.5 times.

To play as OMEGA for a few days your best bet is the weekend pack, it’s cheap and gives you 3 days plus 50 plex.

Yeah you’re gonna have to Omega for the goods. You can use isk to get plex if u don wanna spend rl cash. A year for me was what 28bil? peanuts compared to what I’ve got. Not everyone is a space tycoon though.

ty, i will give it a week and see if i don’t return ;D

big fan off the inbuilt eft, took a sec to learn it, it’s a true joy compared to the old one, though eft was amazing all thx to their creator ;D eve-fitting-tool

(premades are nice; but why so few premade setups? where are all the hardcore stats lovers, i know your out there, no one stick in eve for long unless you love the numbers xD :stuck_out_tongue:
