A summit of Serthoulde’s sub-district governors is currently underway in the city of Rousseillac on Odamia X, focusing on the increasingly controversial relationship between member states in the Athounon Sub-district and what many are calling an ‘increasingly belligerent’ Taayusaka Eskeitan. This high-stakes meeting was prompted by the recent “intervention” on Alparena III, which saw widespread destruction caused by Taayusaka CorpSec. The key figures in these talks are Governor Jean Bellevaux of Alparena, who sparked the debate, and Governor Matthieu Grenet of Athounon, accompanied by Darmain Kuvier, Premier of Ciel-Huogaatsu and elected representative of the CAPA states.
Two opposing factions have emerged, with Governor Bellevaux accusing CAPA and the Athounon Sub-district of collaborating with a ruthless and belligerent corporation that has launched violent attacks on the wider Serthoulde district and cemented Caldari influence through the Samanuni stargate. On the other hand, the CAPA states, represented by Darmain Kuvier, defended their position as merely a “practical arrangement” aimed at serving their citizens’ best interests, given the altered astropolitical landscape. They too pointed to the new stargate connection to Samanuni, which has effectively placed Athounon on the border of a major Caldari military staging area.
Darmain Kuvier further argued that CAPA’s arrangement with Taayusaka is not without precedent within the Federation. He cited Intaki’s historic Shipping and Security Franchise agreement with Ishukone, which persisted even during periods of Federal military control. Kuvier emphasized that while Taayusaka is closely aligned with Caldari interests, it is not formally part of the State Protectorate on an organizational level and should be considered an independent entity rather than a hostile military power.
Governor Bellevaux dismissed these claims as “outrageous,” calling for strict sanctions against both Athounon and Taayusaka, and even advocating for Federal military intervention to bring the “collaborators” to justice.
While no consensus has been reached, two polarized camps have emerged among the governors. Some fear that inviting Federal military intervention could jeopardize their own autonomy, while others worry that appeasing foreign corporate influence could lead to just the same, with the concern of losing local control over their affairs being a dominant issue.
Governor Grenet and Darmain Kuvier reassured undecided governors, reminding them that Intaki’s “liberation” occurred for unrelated reasons, pointing out that the agreement with Ishukone had expired long before Federal intervention.
As the debate continues, the faction in favor of CAPA and maintaining current relations with Taayusaka seems to have the upper hand for now. However, the deciding votes rest with Odamia, Serthoulde’s most populous system, with 5 sub-districts among its multiple habitable planets.
The final vote on the issue is expected to take place in the next few days.
