YULAI IX - CONCORD BUREAU, GENESIS
With a backdrop of a hanger, giant cruisers floating overhead, a diverse crowd had gathered in Yulai for the debut concert of Jin-Mei symphonic metal band Empty Chair. Having welcomed her fans, singer Xiao Meiyi led the band through a performance of the band’s first single, “The True Throne Awaits”. The crowd’s enthusiasm turned mixed, however, as the band announced and performed its second song, “Guardians of Gallentia”.
Linking the upper two Jin-Mei castes to the Ultra-Nationalists of the Caldari seccession era, as the song does, was sure to be controversial for a band already inclined to controversy due to its open sedevacantism. Following her band’s performance, Miss Xiao took questions from the press, explaining that she admired the historical Guardians of Gallentia for their defense of traditional values and sees a similar role for the Jin-Mei caste system in defending the Jin-Mei against Luminaire cosmopolitanism. She continued that the Jin-Mei caste system is under continual threat and thus the Jin-Mei people need the strength of the Sedevacantist Church — staunch supporters of the caste and hierarchy — to defend it. Miss Xiao declined to say whether her band’s concerts in Gallente space would include “Guardians of Gallentia” or whether the track would appear on Federation releases of their upcoming album.
Miss Xiao further rejected rumors that Empty Chair’s music was generated by a caged rogue drone.
