So this is a very good point on which I could only say: were this the objective, CCP failed catastrophically. You have an absurdly limited selection of ships from which you can use, from which an even significantly smaller selection are actually “good” at Abyssal, and from there yet even significantly smaller selection of cookie-cutter fits are well suited. On top of that, you end up investing orders of magnitude more money into Abyssal ships than you would into stock PVP ships (meant for collaborative play), where at the barest of minimums you have the opportunity to retreat from battle or dock-up mid-op if something happens and you need to bail - not something you can do in Abyssal. The theoretical advantage of Abyssal being a “PVP Trainer” doesn’t exist in practice.
The closest thing EVE has to a (good) “PVP Trainer” would be FW (since they have a militia you can fleet up with and don’t have to worry about your specific corp/alliance being active or not to coordinate fleets) and FW complexes where the ship restrictions make it easier for newbies to play against vets, or the PVE content where the rats use high-end PVPesque AI. Other Trig content besides Abyssal is also nice while permitting collaborative play, larger ship selection, greater challenges, and no mandatory ship loss on op failure (whereas you can always retreat or at least escape with your pod otherwise).
So while I’m personally against the notion of instanced content in EVE as a matter of principle, I’m not going to categorically reject it if it’s done right - but Abyssal was implemented so damn stupidly that the idea of CCP come up with yet additional instanced content gives me the shivers.
yes i was not aware that people call trig loot red loot like we do with blue loot for the sleepers , i was referring to multiplasmid mutation modules , i was calling then red loot because they are red modules
mutaplasmids are not module.
They belong to the category “commodity”(17), group “mutaplasmids”(1964)
modules are all the types (or the items that are instances of those types) belonging to the category “module”(7).
It’s the same mistake as if you were saying that pith x-type XL shield booster is a blue “ship”.
I think you meant, that mutaplasmids are red items.
Hypothetically speaking, if you were a dev wanting to make some content where players were likely to lose ships, how else would you design it? If every ship/fit were viable, then almost no one would lose ships. At entry level Abyss, you actually can use a large array of ships, but as you climb higher, it almost narrows down to specific ships for specific filaments. That’s pretty standard practice in games for designing difficult content. Just the consequences in EVE are harsh, as tends to be in the spirit of this game.
High end Abyss players are likely already risk takers and have probably been exposed or currently engage in PvP by then. However, I have been seeing new to intermediate players try out the content and have been losing ships in Tier 1, and definitely Tier 2. But they are using cheaper “PvP-ish” fits, and likely learning something from the experience.
Have to somewhat disagree here. Although faction war is good for staring out, a lot of PvErs won’t try that out at first cause it’s low sec IIRC, especially if they are risk averse. As I mentioned, Abyss can teach at least some concepts of PvP, and loss as well.
All in all, I’m only saying if the devs did have some clear purpose of trying to ease players towards PvP, it’s not that bad and is just another path that players can take.
Personally, if I wanted content that would encourage players to take risks and lose ships, I would improve the PvP environment to something that actually makes people want to play it, rather than avoid it, escape it, or cherry pick it (only take fights you know you can win).
If I decided I wanted a PvE section that would lose ships, I certainly wouldn’t devise a timed, set piece, shoot and scoot scenario where missing the timer guarantees destruction, despite EVE’s well known issues with maintaining reliable connections.
Instead of a known quantity run (which almost all the PVE in EVE is), I would set up some sort of variable system where an alert happens, gives you an idea what general sort of challenge is where, has a limited time, you warp in and are faced with some random content which requires different strategies. Once people have gone to a location, started a fight, and know the rewards need to be snagged within time X they will be much more tempted to stick around and fight whatever shows up. If it isn’t instanced it also allows even more content potential.
It’s been obvious for years that CCP needs to stop sticking in set-piece content that takes vets 2 weeks to figure out and then everyone maximally farms it until its nerfed. It’s time for a little more creativity than tweaking spreadsheets and balance runs.
Yeah massive mistake to allow them to the leave POS shield in the first place. Well, maybe they can now boost from tether instead. Actually, I am on board with total removal of mining drones. Based on the amount of Dev time wasted with nerfs to Drones and Drone-Boats; a lot of time could be saved just skipping ahead to the Delete Option. Nuke from Orbit.
well if this continue : i say not for long …
the biggest problem started with alpha player
actualy they had to be given a choice or become omega after a month or start all over again.
one of the former developers said it right : ït is a big risk " but we are going to take it … pew pew pew (remember her name ? )
afterwards they did not evaluate it for the future >> and now they must balance that wonder of a mistake
read original post again
and a other thing :
if you look at HS you see that there is jita eria and the rest of HS if you split the influence of those two you see that the rest of HS is a dead horse
they still think jita is a part of the rest of HS
wrong thoughts
ar made here HS is a desert at the moment people are watching there screen and think Mmm i think i go play wot…
lets face it level one in HS is good for alphas
but finding a level II CS in HS is a needle in a heystack. for omegas
removing almost all of the challanges in HS and belts the sice of a peanut is not mothers greatest . and i can go on for ever with these russian developers…
i am beginning to believe there is something fishy going on …
and believe it or not those koreans dont care …they allready got theire code for their consumers in korea on a other platform. (cheapest way to buy the code )
Same for any area. The area A is not a part of the universe minus A.
Did you just discover what set theories are ? I just don’t get what concern you are trying to express.

I could agree with that, it it actually made a sense.
Right now, I’m jut like… WTF are you even talking about ?
let me put it in other words : when a company gets sold "other " people come in to take it a part mostly for just one reason >> to get the most money out of it in a short time …
it looks if thats whats happening atm…
and to sell it on the market after a while in a brooken status…
but then a gain i am just talking stupid…with no sence …in a language i normaly dont speak .
