Scanning of Salvage

sniff

So much hatred. Fallen to the dark side you have young prodigal. So many words and only accusations, assumptions and personal attacks. And not a single provable fact.

Reconsider the way you must!

What are you like six years old?

Buzz off dude.

Says the one who started the personal attacks

If someone should stop, it’s you. Either post constructive to the topic or let it be. Attacking others who disagree with you isn’t helpful at all.

That was your opening line.

And it’s

  • true
  • non-offensive
  • on topic
  • free from personal attacks
  • constructive because I even explained in detail why it wouldn’t work
  • creative because I even offered a detailed alternative that would achive a comparable goal and actually could work

What the heck is wrong with you? My reply is a prime example how an adult debate should go on, it could serve as an example for good forum participation. What exactly is your problem? Does disagreement hurt your feelings?

Ok here’s why:
It’s your opening statement.

Second, what difference does it make how many times the idea gets presented? The person who posted the idea obviously loves the game, enjoys salvaging and wants to see this aspect of the game improved. It’s good that this type of post gets made because it reminds the developers that players, in particular newer players, are, year on year, still attracted to this activity and enjoy doing it and that it could use some attention. The squeaky wheel gets the grease so to speak.

  • This is a judgement, plain and simple.
  • Your believing it’s true doesn’t make it true.
  • I think that it’s an example of gatekeeping and naysaying.
  • You used a generalised referential index ā€˜We’ and an unspecified noun ā€˜It’ but you’re referencing a very specific thing, a persons idea, so it is personal.
  • Explaining how something doesn’t work is deconstructive not constructive.
  • The alternative you offered is great and that part is constructive; I don’t understand why you yourself and others like you couldn’t just write up suggestions like this backed up with explanations as to what, why, and how, without the need to be negative toward players who are just beginning to expand their knowledge. If you want to be a steward of the game:

Which it appears you do ^. At the very least you think that you are. Then be a steward of people’s ideas instead of expressing an attitude of wearisome disdain anytime someone new suggests something that you think you’ve heard before.

The truth is that I happen to agree with the tone of your ideas, but I’m so very tired of gatekeepers and naysayers rushing in to douse on community members that are offering up ideas that they no longer think deserve to be heard.

I mean you don’t seem pleased with my critique of your post(s)…

Which suggests to me that you haven’t particularly enjoy having your own positioned ā€˜disagreed with’.

You’d think a person as sensitive as yourself would be more considerate of their approach to others.

Here’s some food for thought:

A new player does not know how many times an idea has been posted before.
A new player likes what they like. It doesn’t have to be what some more experienced player thinks is good and it can be what some more experienced player thinks is bad.
A new player doesn’t know the ins and outs of why their particular suggestion might or might not be effective (I’m not saying don’t educate, I’m saying be gracious with your approach).
A new player looks around, they see mining has a mining ship and a mining process, combat has a combat ship and associated processes, hauling has a hauling ship and associated processes, then there’s the thing that they’re doing in the sandbox. The thing that they can do, that’s attracted them and they think, this is obviously good fun right now but it clearly could be better it clearly needs work, which it does. So they post on the forums. Then in you come like a patronising boomer to set them straight, ugh, we had this idea like, a dozen times already… I mean ugh, it’s like… not even a good one. Seriously Sysygium, get over yourself.

It’s the same with all the players ā€˜educating’ on how you can bookmark sites and make friends, etc. These are strategies to work around an under developed aspect of the game, they’re not fun, that’s why players, year on year, keep bringing the topic back up ā€˜dozens of times’. It’s the same with Planetary Industry. Except with PI you’ve got the whole, it’s good that it’s bad community because that’s how we profit.
Survivor bias, that’s what that is called.

With so much emphasis on making friends you’d think the community would be more interested in improving the systems that would encourage people to stay rather than upholding the status quo and demanding that players persist in playing in ways that even beginners can see aren’t fun.

Players are suggesting bookmarking sites but are against scanning… That makes no sense. hey argue ā€˜but I’m safe’… not if someone bookmarked the site…

You want to derail the topic by making it a quotewar now? Not interested, really. Stop focusing on the poster, stay at the topic simple as that. Don’t assume evil intentions and accuse others of having some kind of agenda and motivation to ā€œgatekeepā€ (rofl…). It really doesn’t help the case and rest assured, you aren’t on your way to reveal some big veteran conspiracy to prevent newbros enjoying the game…

And yes, defeating the same bad ideas over and over is just tiresome. One could expect that before spitting a random idea in - literally - a 2-liner into the suggestion board, he could have at least searched if this idea has already been discussed. And he would have found like half a dozen topics. Then he could have read those topics and begin to understand why the idea still is not in the game.

But no, thats not feasible any more. Low-effort wishlists are the way to go today. Mostly from guys so new that they don’t even understand how the game works. But still want to change it right away.

So, we can summarize:
The guy didn’t take the time to write up a solid concept. You know, some kind of presentation standard to show he has put some effort into the idea and has done some research to identify a ā€œproblemā€, then presenting a ā€œsolutionā€ and then explaining how his idea would make the game better. Instead it’s literally 2 lines of ā€œgive us, we want!ā€.

THAT is the low-effort non-educated just-demanding suggestion behaviour you are defending right now. And come up with personal attacks, questioning the motivation of people who disagreeing, accusing them of just brainless ā€œnaysaingā€ and ā€œgatekeepingā€. And you wonder why you get negative feedback?

And please, stop all that ā€œbut the new player! He can’t know!!!ā€ - yea, exactly, that is why he should LEARN AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND instead of tring to change what he has no clue about. You don’t walk into a store that existed for like 50 years and begin to demand changes on your first visit, without even having talked to the owner or being ca customer there for some years yourself, do you?

Jeez, you aren’t helpful, you are part of the problem. Too much people even defending all those lazy demanding brainfarts, that is why this suggestion board here overflows with 95%+ really stupid ideas from ā€œnew playersā€ who have really no idea what the consequences of their suggestions would be and never put any effort into understanding the mechanics they are talking about.

It should tell you that it is probably bad idea if it was suggested that many times in past and it is still not implemented…

There are no bad ideas

Oh yeah, good point. I noticed this on my discord too. Peoples are so angry if you tell them that their idea is bad. God forbid to use words stupid or nonsense. Then they go on rampage.

I don’t know what happened, but these days peoples are unable to hear criticism. Likewise most peoples do no longer dare to criticize. Instead they do not rate/vote than to potentially upset the guy who posted his idea/project/game/whatever.

I had this player who liked my game server, played for a few weeks and then he came to discord and suggested some stupid idea how to improve the game. I as and admin replied that this idea is stupid because reasons and that I won’t be doing that and I added tag [rejected] to the thread.

He got so upset, damn that was crazy. Claimed I am toxic, server is ā– ā– ā– ā–  added few verbals on my address and ragequitted instantly both discord and game. Didn’t return ever since…

And what we see in this thread reminds me this guy…

You can save combat anomalies from the overview and return later to see if they are gone and loot plus salvage them so big no for this bad idea
