Space no safe.
But in high-sec u have illusion to safe.
That’s a bit harsh. EvE is a work of art (EvE had a display at the MoMA years ago), and truth is in the eye of its beholder, be it dev or player
Clearly those divisions are mostly sets of rules of engagement, with a bunch of environmental factors thrown in (e.g. delayed local in w-space). They are very different in nature, something you come to appreciate if you try to live there - the demands differ, not to mention the necessary knowledge base. The (relatively) strong control by the 4 empires in the center of the map, the tumultuous borders, the so-called lawless extremes of the galaxy, and later on the introduction of true no-man’s land in spooky w-space, with a nice package of lore to go with the zones.
Another way of looking at it, is the level of freedom and of organization/cooperation in each zone, although those evolutions may be just that: spontaneous changes / emerging gameplay from the community adapting to the environment on offer. It’s clear that when sovereignty is involved, people will organize defenses, or invading armies, and to a broader extent than when sov is absent.
Why did CCP divide space like that ? They probably saw it as a progression in difficulty level, without completely losing the “full on” pvp aspect of the game in hisec space (although they are closer to losing it now compared to 10-15 years ago). And I mean that at the time of the game’s release, without fantasizing about ccp’s early (pre-production) design ideas. They would simply not get traction for a brutal game where any newbie would get killed on his first undock… Compared to other mmo’s, very few players survived even the hi/lo/nullsec design with its increased pvp aspect - EvE has its die hard and very long term fans, but not the broad customer base of a WoW or a GW of those days. That’s why it has been dying since release, and why it still lives today.
Pochven was - in my opinion - a very unfortunate conclusion of the brilliant trig invasion episode, and I’d rather see it gone altogether for diverse reasons.
Azkeban, never heard of it.
But if you really want to know, you’d have to ask the ccp devs of the first hour.
In my view a totally safe highsec would be the end of Eve. Not just because highsec PvP-ers would have no-one to shoot, as ( despite all the incessant wailing from some ) highsec PvP is actually a small part of all PvP in Eve, but because the transition for noobs from a 100% safe highsec to a dastardly lowsec would be all the more severe.
Noobs need to have some exposure to risk in highsec, otherwise visiting lowsec will be like falling off a cliff edge…and increasingly noobs just wont go there. The game will just turn into Highsec Farmville and will die from people being bored. Risk is the only antidote to that boredom.
I can’t imagine CCP don’t know this.
@Wadiest_Yong Thank you so much for that thoughtful reply. You’ve given me food for thought.
I was thinking of asking a GM or flat out sending an email to CCP and see what answers I may get. In fact I may still do that.
I couldn’t agree more with your conclusion. The boot camp that should be hisec should at least hold hints about the real deal in the game, in this case exposure to player created danger and 'splosions
PvP is the very thing that makes this game playable at all, whether one is actively involved in it or only indirectly influenced by it.
I thought this was explained before you even join the game? It was to me.
How’s Equinox working out for you? (lol)
Yup, if one cared to read and accept the fact
Ahh, I see the problem now!
My 2012 pilot doesn’t believe that he was told about the dangers of undocking.
He had only undocked to clear a killright on a Notorious HS Miner
Only show that we need more warning before undocking.
We click undock yet there is no warning unless we are at war or if a module is offline due to power grid.
And the latest invetion of the Frostpacker entity: picturesalad

A Frostpacker picturesalad

“In space, no one can hear you scream.”
Although in EVE, you can certainly vent your frustrations in local…
@Analoreke_Brunette I don’t know much of a “reason” other than to indicate authority within the system. I don’t find low security all that scary. I mine there and haul ore through LS all the time. I sort of get mad at myself when I don’t check my route for Trigonometry invasions. Triga? Whatever spell checker.
Thing to understand about HS is the popo will not come to your rescue until you explode. Suicide gankers love it, they plaster some hauler with +500 million ISK and lose their ship, then all the ALTs arrive to salvage the remains.
Some people like to farm wormholes, it is my opinion WHs are not profitable for solo mining. I made more ISK from LS gas and don’t deal with rats ( NPCs ) attacking me. The only time I venture into Transylvanian space is the filaments 3 dungeon run. Unless you are real good with a frigate ship in there, you are not going for the looting.
Long and short of it, the security number means very little to me and my play style.
Have fun!
Bad try at BS!
I miss local.
Try to undock, it’s the button to the right.
@Princess_Rose_Ivory I believe it’s Triglycerides but I could be wrong about that. A couple of posters above succinctly explained what the different security zones were all about. As far as Lowsec being scary I guess it depends on the player. I don’t find it scary at all, I take it as normal space while Hisec is like a bicycle with training wheels.
I try no to fly Hisec unless I have to buy or sell modules/ships. I have to fly Hisec to go to Jita to get my ships and that’s a pain but oh well, can’t always have everything as my father says. As for gankers, I don’t think about them much.
I ventured into a couple of wormholes and didn’t find much of interest. It was boring so I left.
I haven’t gone into Transillumination space yet. I’m kind of busy upping this clone’s and my mining clone’s capabilities plus my scout clone’s agility so I can do a bit more than what I’ve been doing.
Same here but I wanted to have a deeper understanding behind the whole thing and I believe I have learned quite a few things with this thread thanks to a few generous forum members.
Fly Silly and Have Fun
@Aisha_Katalen
That was a great movie and I love that part when he yells at them, basically robots, to behave themselves. Totally delusional.
Thanks for the laugh!
Edit. I feel I should really add something about Security Space so this post isn’t hidden by the community.
So the amount of time that CONCORD shows up in those different Security Space should be prolonged. I mean if they’re not there to protect anyone then, really, no one needs them.
not really… CONCORD is there to punish… so the less restrictive security status, 0.5, it takes them longer than say a 1.0
