Security status effects tethering

Amen to that

Amen

I think CCP is running an experiment with the changes, they may get some results they looked for, but they will damage something else because they did not address the real problem, the real problem was content mismanagement

And that’s why I am consulting players for a change in highsec in the other topic, an elegant non intrusive change in terms of game mechanics, the change will help braking the grind and people will actually learn EVE’s content through the UI

The change I proposed will have the healthy social impact that the community needs, because this content that today is seen as exotic or unintended then will be seen as a regular normal official content

So gankers will become protagonists of the official content, they always were, but they were never seen as that, they were seen as bored griefing weirdos because the content wasn’t managed and handled correctly by CCP through their UI and by not introducing the content early on to the new players

That’s what’s happening basically.

Except you can play Chess for free, and I mean free, not “free”. No need of an internet connection or a subscription to use all the pieces on the board.
EVE is a product as well as a game, that’s on a whole new level. Chess doesn’t depend on investors and doesn’t suffer when half the globe goes unto recession, players not able to access the game due to sanctions and talk of nuclear war is brought up everyday on Mass Media.
Comparing Chess with EVE is like comparing the horse’n’buggy with a self-driving Tesla.

You’re absolutely right, EVE has not attained the global impact, availability and usability of Chess.

Perhaps it is a standard to strive for.

It’s a tall order but it is indeed a standard to strive for, although I doubt that an mmo can become as prestigious as the game of Chess.

The thing that makes chess different from Eve in this context is that nobody can walk in while you’re playing a game of chess, tell you that the way your knights move through pieces was deemed to be unfair and so the rules are being changed to appeal to a wider audience.

When you buy ‘chess’, what you’re paying for is really just the board, some playing pieces, and some instructions that may or may not be in good English (or native language of choice). What you do with those things is completely up to you and whether you play traditional chess or checkers with fancy looking plastic is up to you. My dad would probably target shoot the king and queen with a BB gun if it were up to him.

Eve has a caretaker who can change the rules and force everyone to play by them, and it’s a lot harder to reprogram and rebuild the Eve you used to like if it is changed on you than it would be to grab some scraps of paper and a ruler to build yourself a makeshift chess board.

Is there tidy in chess ?
What’s more, https://www.entertainmentearth.com/product/hello-kitty-chess/sa756
so chess is clearly superior.

“While the exact origins of chess are unclear, modern rules first took form during the Middle Ages. The rules continued to be slightly modified until the early 19th century, when they reached essentially their current form. The rules also varied somewhat from place to place. Today, the standard rules are set by FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs), the international governing body for chess. Slight modifications are made by some national organizations for their own purposes. There are variations of the rules for fast chess, correspondence chess, online chess, and Chess960.”
Chess has adapted to different mentalities throughout the world though certain rules are official for competition’s sake.

When someone buys something like this

The intent is clear.

As quoted above, the rules in Chess also have changed and will probably continue to do so over the centuries.
But again, EVE is a different thing that can’t be compared to Chess.

That’s my point. There’s no comparison.

Right once again!
In chess you do not digitally acknowledge a terms of service that states you are playing a game primarily amongst multiple human opponents / companions.

Then there’s that too.

The Queen is OP.

Game companies change over time, but they publish game vision for the next year/years. In the last announcement they explicitly see HS ganking as a key component.

Another thing is that they completly failed when defining what is griefing and what is not, and all the measures taken are not aiming to protect against “griefing” (actually the opposite!)… but thats another story.

Finally, every game changes over time but no one lost its original Soul, for example I dont see EVE as a instanced Dungeon online game in the future.

It seems people can provide red herrings for free as well ! Hell yeah…and just throw in nuclear war for good measure.

Except Mad Max wont be able to charge his Tesla.

They seemed very clear to me. If they cannot fix it with ham-fisted changes to the game, they will accomplish it with player bans against the people doing stuff they don’t like.

What ? I mean…more people like football than cricket. So we need to make cricket more like football in order to attract more people. More people like tennis than mountain climbing…so let’s make a tennis court half way up Mount Everest to attract more people.

You had left out Golf and now I feel that you also offended someone.

I mean… things like Twenty20 cricket are there to make it more appealing to I guess what you may call ‘the football’ crowd.

Also in climbing the next Olympics will feature ‘speed climbing’ which most climbers don’t do and don’t much like… but it is fast and easy to sell… so it wins. An Olympic sport where people spend days on a rock face and ■■■■ in a tube just ain’t happening!

Lol sure

Remember that when they remove it.

Or are we suddenly believing CCP when they say stuff now?

Its already most of the way there

hmm you are right.

Something worth reminding gankers is that the Fast Talk skill, and I think one other one, increases the Concord reward for blapping pirates, which obviously means one can repair security status faster via ratting.
