I am a fairly new player (Created account 2 years ago but never finished my first mission. My buddy got me to try it again about 4 months ago and now i’ve been playing ever since).
I’ve been progressing pretty fast and decided to buy some skill injectors and work my way into the Stormbringer after watching some abyssal videos.
Long story short, I warped into the Abyss and my client disconnected mid-warp after it froze. Someone in my corp told me to make a support ticket and see if they would replace it, so that’s what I did.
The response I received back had me fairly concerned and I have questions around the “ruling” so I can be better educated on how this stuff works in the future. I was told “no” which is unfortunate, but it is what it is. My question really comes down to - Why is it not eligible for reimbursement? I read through the article they have and based on my understanding, it would qualify for reimbursement according to their rules.
Here is what my ticket stated and i’m hoping someone can chime in and educate me on why this wouldn’t qualify so I know for future issues (when to make a new ticket, when to not make a ticket) because I don’t want to get banned from CCP for making unnecessary tickets.
“Hey there,
I am a relatively new eve player (created my account a couple of years ago but never played, now i’m about 4ish months into the game) and had an in-game issue loading into an abyssal. When I clicked the key to start, my client completely froze while I was in the warp animation. Tried to get back in as quickly as possible but was dead upon logging in.
Is it possible to restore the ship and cargo I had? Hoping you can help :(“
My guess is they are qualifying this under client issues and not server issues? I did get the disconnected from server popup on the launcher, but again, I am just a little confused on how they view this stuff since they have access to the logs and should be able to see me getting disconnected from the server.
Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this question, again I am still new to Eve.
In your particular case, as best I can remember, when the Abyss was introduced CCP announced there would be no reimbursements for ship loss at all. No reimbursement was a part of the design, and you undertook that content knowing this policy upfront. To the best of my knowledge they have never deviated from this.
In as much as lots of other pve/pvp ships losses can, or will be, reimbursed, it’s understandable your corpies made the suggestion.
But, the Abyss? No reimbursement, period. I suspect because it would be just too easy to cheat, i.e. unplug your computer, as an example (rather than lose an expensive ship.)
Basically as both stated above, CCP has ruled the Abyss as the only place that reimbursements are not given.. You could unplug your pc, turn the router off, lose internet due to a storm, ccp servers go down whatever it may be, but that is the one place they will not reimburse.
Apart from what others have said about Abyssals specifically being exempt from reimbursement, your problem was most likely a client issue, and not CCP server issue. Freezing and DC on the client side often happens because of connection problems (I know, I am on such unstable connection myself), so I suggest you check or upgrade your internet connection for more stability if you want to avoid similar problems occurring in the future.
Hope your ship wasn’t officer-fit, is all I have left to add.
I couldn’t find that in their reimbursement policy.
Also, there is no complaint here. I am simply asking for clarification because it’s not in their reimbursement policy and I don’t want to jam up their systems with future unnecessary tickets and risk getting action taken on my account.
Here is a breakdown of the reimbursement policy for Abyssal losses based on player experiences and GM, as of 2025:
General Policy: “Any losses attributable to problems with a player’s system (i.e. computer, internet connection, etc.) or any system owned by a third party are not eligible for reimbursement”.
Abyss Specifics: Tickets for ships lost inside the abyss are often immediately denied. The core reason is that it is difficult for CCP to differentiate between a real internet outage and a player intentionally pulling their cable to save their ship from a bad spawn.
Once inside an Abyssal Deadspace, there are only two ways to leave: The Origin Gate, within the third pocket of each Abyssal Deadspace, leading back to the point of entry or the destruction of the ship.
Disconnects and ship losses while within Abyssal Deadspace
Abyssal Deadspace is extremely dangerous and any destruction of the capsuleers ship within an Abyssal Deadspace will always destroy the capsule as well. Leaving the pocket in any other capacity than the gate within it will also result in the destruction of ship and capsule.
The ship will also be destroyed if the timer for the deadspace runs out.
If a disconnect or log off occurs while within an abyssal deadspace, the ship will remain in space and will still be attacked by the NPCs within the pocket. Should the timer for the deadspace run out while logged off, the ship will be destroyed as well.
I bet you will insure his next ship for 1 billion ISK. @PA-28-181
Frankly I am surprised they are so polite with you. I never ask for replacement or refund in these PvP games. Maybe I should have thought of it last year when I lost my astrahus ( that is a space station worth 3 billion ISK ) to a war dec in high sec?
The number one rule here is never fly what you cannot afford to lose. For me, that is pretty much everything. I cannot afford to lose my free corvette.
All jesting aside, I teach miners to mine and my first lesson is → You will lose everything you own and you will need to replace it often. This is why we cannot have nice stuff here.
There is no safety net. I was told by other random players that placing FREEPORT on your charitable station would tell others it should not be attacked. They attacked it, it exploded, they trotted off laughing about it.
Now since you are new, there is nothing to sign up for, B.R.U.C.E. corp will supply you with a fully fitted venture ready to mine ore and gas. We don’t recruit and we don’t charge you later. Just drop one of us a game mail and tell us where to drop off your ship. If you decide you need pointers on mining in LS ( low sec ) we can take you out and help set up a semi-successful solo mining operation. We train everyone, as if they are alpha, because BRUCE miners are all alphas.
Another charity passing out free random fighting ships, is Mike Azariah and his Magic School Bus program. If you hang out in rookie chat, he pops on and tells you where he will be passing out ships. The man is Canadian, so be nice to him.
In a few months, around spring, once a year there is another charity hosting the FF4A - Frigate Free 4 All. This takes place in LS and you just ask for a fitted ship and it is up to you to blow up or get blown up. You then return and ask for another. They don’t care what you do with the free ship after they hand it off to you. This player run event happens once a year and it meant to promote PvP. They also attempt to keep anything larger than a frigate out of the system while they blast on each other.
I would look for the charities to get you that free ship before ever expecting CCP to replace it.
You can always replace anything- some things require more time than others. Just keep playing the game and find a corp that will offer you some protection against ship losses.
Just imagine gankers blowing up a juicy target a 30+ bil marauder, freighter, orca or whatever that drops like 1 bil worth of stuff then CCP reimbursing the 29+ bil rest plus the hull itself to the owner right into the nearest NPC station.
Coool! I will take the free mining ship from you. Parked anywhere you like, as long as it is in hi sec. You say fitted for ore or gas, I suppose that means I need a skill to mine gas then? I never went beyond mining ore much myself. Thanks a bunch.
It’s not hard to keep a structure. You have to be willing to defend it, replace it, or hire protection for it.
Also, you can opt to hide it very far away from Jita. 50+ jumps away from it. That works too. Defending it would be the most fun, but it’s not easy to find dedicated combat pilots in High Sec. You’d need at least 6 pilots that know how to properly fly Marauders or other big hitters. Of course, for that firepower, it better be a Fortizar!
Well, I did have weapons on it, but John said that just quantifies it as a legit target in his opinion. With our corp, being small tight knit group, there was no one online to defend it. As you are well aware, there is no warning system or automatic defensive system. It would be nice, if the game could send me an IM over my cell. I did get some target practice on some rats passing by once, but I won’t bother with weapons with the new one.
I won’t be paying someone to protect it, nor do I want to burden others to protect it. I only wish people would learn to read and respect the corp for what it is doing. Yes. I know we are a bunch of care bears in a space PvP game. John has told me several times, they will shoot down Santa, if he shows up in game. I thought about not placing a core into the structure, reducing the temptation to earn rewards, but then we would be a much easier target to explode, and there would be no services available. With a clone bay alone, I am grinding the ISK to feed the structure fuel each month. Also we give away free ships as well and never ask for donations.
All this is done by three of us grinding ISK and we do have fun doing it. Also one of our members is omega on a non-BRUCE account, we are not anti omega, we just desire to show the new players you can enjoy the game without going broke and surviving on noodles for the month.
