Ship Updates to be released soon

Continuing the discussion from Road to Fanfest - Proteus Balance Adjustment:

6 MONTHS LATE, BUT BETTER THAN NEVER! CCP LISTENED TO ME!

Yes you’re the only one who noticed and mentioned this, ever.

if ARMAGEDDON NI can use a full rack of MISSILES I WILL BE IN HEAVEN!!!

it’s one reason I like the normal Armageddon more because it’s Drone>Missiles/lasers, I would assume with this change NI would be Missile/Lasers>Drone

NOTE: I DO LOVE RAPID FIRING LASERS, but they are locked to EM/THERM which can be annoying

now we just need something like Khanid Kingdom Navy Missile Ammo or even reuse the Caldari navy item name like they do for heavy assault missiles so I wouldn’t have to travel to jita… (LP Store)

It also gives the lie to some of the folks who say “no matter what CCP does, most players will rage at them for it”.

So far I’ve seen positive reactions from about 90% or more of the people reviewing these (possibly incomplete) changes.

It shows what can happen if CCP actually listens to sensible player opinions and makes useful changes… even if they’re only a tweak in the ship stat spreadsheets.

Apparently they rolled back the changes on Sisi a few hours later.

I would have welcomed the shield bonus for the Cerberus, but if there is one change Caldari ships need is to stop the madness with damage bonus locked to Kinetic missiles.

NONE of the Amarr missile ships are limited to EM damage (to the exception of the Purifier, but then all 4 empires have the same limitation in regard to their primary damage type with their stealth bomber, so there is balance there). For Minmatar ship, besides the Hound (stealth bomber), there is the Vigil Fleet which has a limitation similar to the Hookbill (a better bonus to a specific damage type, but also some bonus to the other damage types). And the Talwar is as dumb as the Corax. Other than that, there is no damage type limitation for the cruisers, BC and BS Minmatar missile ships.

Caldari engineers are presumably good according to some lore, but they have to be the dumbest of all 4 empires. Gallente engineers know the Caldari are dumb, so they have crancked up the kinetic resist on their T2 ships…

The bonus restriction on the ammo instead of the launcher is grotesque. I don’t recall any Amarrian or Gallentean ship restricted bonus to EM or Thermal based drones on any of their drone boats, and no Minmatar using projectile turrets have bonus limited to explosive (say Fusion ammo)

The Caldari engineers should hang out with their Amarrian peers to get undumb about missile damage bonus, and why not about drone bay size and bandwith (obviously not for drone damage bonus). Minmatar are technically not expert with drones, but at least they can use their brain and have proper drone bay size and bandwith, relative to the ship classes (can use 5 light drones on cruisers, 5 medium on BC, and 5 heavy on BS)

Looks like the pulled them on SISI to fine tune and get the updated version in place.

Latest details from CCP (posted on Reddit, of course):

The reception for the changes is still strongly positive. Apparently in order to make well-received changes, CCP just needs to listen to well-informed feedback from the playerbase…

Who’d a thunk it?

@Lana_Thomas Thanks for posting the list…

Despite what others may think or say, in my opinion this right here is ludicrous and whoever decided that needs to be fired.

I’m all for making some slight changes in ship stats but that is a complete re-design trying to turn an excellent gunship into a new missile boat. Should have just implemented a new ship instead of craping all over Eve History and it’s Lore…

Commissioned by the Republic Fleet to create a powerful assault vessel for the strengthening of the Matari tribes as well as a commercial platform for the Howitzers and other guns produced by the Fleet, Boundless Creation came up with the Muninn. Heavily armored, laden with turret hardpoints and sporting the latest in projectile optimization technology, this is the very definition of a gunboat.

@CCP_Aurora thought of and implemented that change.

RIP Black Legion Munin fleets circa 2011.

Lol what is this crap…

Doesn’t matter who thought of it or implemented it…

Changing things just for the sake of change is hardly ever a good idea, especially in Eve when that change outright negates Eve History and Lore…

Which is exactly what CCP has been doing over the past few years. And still they wonder why this game has poor player retention…

Minmatar is the only faction where both hacs use the same weapon type, all the other have one for each weapon system. That is how it SHOULD be, this change is long overdue (since forever, really).

That’s your opinion and you’re more than welcome to it…

Doesn’t mean you’re right though, not all of the other Factions have a Missile Boat HAC. The Gallente HAC’s are a Drone Boat and a Hybrid Turret Boat, no missiles there…

The Muninn is suppose to be an Artillery / Gun Boat, say’s it in the description:

a commercial platform for the Howitzers and other guns produced by the Fleet

The Vagabond’s description isn’t as specific and would have been a better choice for a Missile boat…

Yeah right, damn the Lore and Eve History, let’s just take all the variety out of the game and homogenize it down to where all the Factions and their ships are exactly the same, that way there won’t be very many choices for players to make and more importantly, no wrong choices to make.

Oh and let’s not forget that homogenizing this game will definitely make more room on the server, room for all the new UI, Map and Graphics crap constantly being done that nobody asks for…

No that’s a FACT. The other three factions have different weapons systems for their two HACs, don’t try to muddy the water with going “yeah but not all are missiles” because that’s not the point. Missiles&hybrids for the two Caldari ones, hybrids&drones for the Gallente ones and lasers/Missiles for the Amarr ones. Yet, somehow both Minmatar are projectile.

The AF and CS got it right, so now the HACs also get it right.

And thus that description gets changed, duh.

Exactly, both Minmatar HACs are gunnery based which is a lack of options (and unlike the other faction’s HACs), CCP is correcting this.

Just because you don’t LIKE something doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense.

Yes it is the point, changing the Muninn from an Artillery Gunboat into a Missile Platform is just flat out wrong and goes against years of Eve History and Lore.

March 2018 Release 1.0 - Released 2018-03-20

We hope with these improvements the Muninn can find a place as a more agile and slippery artillery option compared to Hurricanes or even Lokis, but that’s some stiff competition so we’ll have to see how it goes.

Then some loudmouths started constantly complaining that the Muninn was overpowered, so CCP did what they do best…

November 2019 Release v.1.1 - Build: 1617768 - 2019-11-26

Maximum Velocity attribute has been decreased to 235 m/sec (previously 250 m/sec)
Signature Radius attribute has been increased to 125 m (previously 115 m)
Ship Bonus to Medium Projectile Turret optimal range has been decreased to 7.5% per skill level (previously 10%)

And again…

18.04 Release - Build: 1706308 - 2020-04-15 - “Surgical Strike” Update (Patch Notes)

Minmatar Cruiser Medium Projectile Turret damage bonus reduced from 7.5%/level to 5%/level (-2.5%/level)
Heavy Assault Cruiser Medium Projectile Turret optimal range bonus reduced from 7.5%/level to 5%/level (-2.5%/level)

Obviously those nerfs weren’t enough so now they’re just outright removing it by changing it into a lousy Missile Platform…

Like I said earlier which you obviously overlooked…

Better only from a lore/words pov and from that pov I can understand but words are just that, balance matters more. The Muninn needed rebalancing and the Vaga did not so they did the obvious thing.

Eve’s lore exists at the whim of CCP. They change it whenever it suits them. Given that the original Eve lore is all pretty much gone from the website, I wouldn’t expect something as small as a ship description to slow them down.

yes

Well, perhaps I misspoke. It was gone for some time. Now it seems to be just buried in some sort of codex.

It IS back though and they have been adding quite a bit to it. Same with all kinds of newbie resources they have been adding (very quietly) that are actually good.

I can’t think of anything bad to say about that.
