i think is a niche thing
MMO is a niche
full PVP is a smaller niche
but IMO EVE lasted for so much time because is one of the best full PVP games ever and this is one of the main selling points of the game
take that off and EVE lose his identity , become just yet another game and eventually die

ok but if you remove HS pvp and turn HS in farmland all the other cards go down
for example the freighter . you can put A LOT of isk in it
with no HS pvp , you could auto pilot that thing
boom there goes the market

in a planet that is mostly water
what is lacking is a economic viable way to bring clean water to certain places
if someone discover a auto piloting freighter that you can put A LOT of water and bring from a place to another for 0 dollars

if all that cost 0 dollars there is no problem
same for oil
oil is not magic , you can burn french fries oil or waterer
but oil is abundant and cheap , coal to
the problem is finding economic viable alternatives
