Shooting player’s spaceships in EvE is not toxic behavior

I don’t really need to try harder. If you haven’t the capacity to actually think objectively, that’s your problem (and unfortunately those around you), not mine.

You’re making a mountain out of a mole hill.

People rarely go to such extremes.

If people can’t handle the interwebs, Stardew my boy.

If you read my original post on this thread you’d see a pretty pragmatic view on the issue rather than making a mountain out of a molehill. ■■■■ happens in game and in real life and I for one don’t want to live in a nanny state society so you’ve got to expect that crap will happen and deal with it. I do although stand by the fact that there are a lot of snowflakes (and ironically many of the people bashing snowflakes actually have the character traits of…snowflakes) and it’s because their parents have wrapped them in cotton wool so they’re ill equipped to survive in the wide world. Being keyboard warriors is their only way of providing an insta ‘self-esteem’ hit even though it’s temporary and detrimental in the long term.

My youth, we are playing a vidya game.

Why so much real life?

EVE is an open world PvP game. If it isn’t their cup of tea, Stardew.

Its very simple

Doesn’t matter if it’s rl or a video game, it’s still a real person doing it. I’m not bashing PvP at all though and think that if a person can’t accept that PvP is a/the integral part of Eve then they shouldn’t be playing.

This we agree upon.

If you are saying if someone can’t hack bullying then they should go play another game then you and I are in disagreement.

If a bully can’t control themselves enough to behave like a half way decent human being then they are the ones that should be sodding off to a single player game.

It’s not hard to not be an arsehole…

The definition of “bullying” is debatable.

Are they being a bully tho?

One would think. But given the amount of tiktoks of people throwing their coffees at their baristas because the barista put in only 2 pump of vanilla fantasy cream instead of three, is frightening.

We live in a culture of entitlement and our millennial/zoomer friends just don’t know how to handle disappointment any other way.

The people shooting spaceships are not toxic.

The people complaining about it are toxic.

It might not be toxic, but it still is griefing!

And my lawyer says it clearly violates German anti cyber bully laws so there is a case here.

Unfortunately players can’t do the same as NPC pirates already. CONCORD is not punishing NPC pirates for attacking/killing you, but they punish player pirates for doing the same. Unfair.

Ah the gold old Antibrütaltyrannisierenimcomputergesetz, for 1B ISK I can dispense dubious advice that in no way is to be construed as legal advice.

Assuming that this is not sarcasm, no, shooting people’s spaceships is not griefing in EvE. The whole game is built around shooting people’s spaceships.

It is no different than charging people rent when they land on your Boardwalk in Monopoly. It is no different that capturing someone’s king in Chess. It is a core mechanic of the game.

The difference is that it’s formatted as an act of physical aggression. “I’m charging you rent” does not tend to trigger aggressive reactions in the modern world (although even there you have violent exceptions).

“I’m shooting you and destroying your stuff and killing you and leaving your corpse behind” is in fact designed to trigger all sorts of deep emotional instinctive human behavioral responses.

I really don’t get why so many people have difficulty understanding that if you act aggressively towards other players, a small percentage of those players will respond with anger and abuse.

It’s like these people want to act out their aggressive fantasies but they can’t handle it when they get aggression back.

If you blow someone’s ship out from under them and the only thing they can shoot back with is words, then some of them will use words. Expecting a “gf!” and a friendly salute and being upset if you don’t get those is just pure candy-ass.

HTFU people - if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Actually CCP declared a chunk of it griefing last fanfaest

Wont be long until its the rest

It’s not meant to be toxic. I say!

But the current mechanics lead for it to be… just that.

Lack of creativity, stamina, maybe staff or money to device, design, implement and code other ways for PVP that are not solely toxic by nature.
