Who is the bumper and who is the bumpee? Computers are not very good at determining intent. So now you’d have gankers trying to get in front of your freighter.
Exactly this. You have not learned your lesson @Krima_Sumyungi. Whenever CCP makes a change to do X, that change inevitably will lead to an adaptation by the players. The problem is you assume static behavior. Oh, if I do this, then that will foil the gankers (or whomever you are annoyed with today) and they’ll have to stop. No! They adapt. In fact, I’m pretty sure CCP knows this. So whenever they have done something “to help you” it ends up not helping so much. People wanted to be able to fit at least some modules to their freighters. So CCP did that…and not haulers fit cargo expanders…they actually reduce the tank of their ships–i.e. they make themselves easier to gank and they still overload their freighters. They are, in short, stopping just short of naming their ship: Please Gank Me or Loot Pinata or Nearly Free Goodies Here.
You want to NOT be bumped…okay, try this: do not overload your freighter and fight a tank. Chances are you won’t be bumped because you won’t be worth bumping. It might still happen, but if it does log out. I doubt some guy is going to suicide alts and buddies in noob ships for very long. And if you do get into a situation where you are being bumped for a long time and you are still being bumped after logging out for a period of time…then file a petition. If you have an empty freighter and you’ve tried to log out for 30-60 minutes only to come back and find yourself still being bumped…my guess is a petition would work.
Really, this is like worrying about getting shot on your way to work. Could it happen? Sure. Do you wear body armor and a helmet on your way to work? Of course not. You do not worry about it.
As such, I can only conclude people are butthurt about bumping because it is used in ganking freighters. But there you absolutely deserve to get bumped and ganked as you were foolish and imprudent in a game that makes absolutely no pretense about being a harsh and unforgiving game. You screw up…you die. If you are getting bumped to get ganked you screwed up…now you’ll die.
Again, remember that bumping is part of the physics of eve. This would have to apply to everything. Bump on a gate, warp. Bump on a collidable object, warp. I’ll take bumping if it means I don’t automatically warp through all the structures in a mission to avoid breaking the immersion.
Assuming my gender, and assuming that if I’m male that I don’t have the proper genitalia… Tisk tisk!
Bumping freighters is most often used as a tool to shoot them. I also bump wartargets that are trying to make it back to gate while I’m shooting at them.
There are several solutions to this problem. Some of which have been mentioned but I will list anyway.
Have an alt or some you TRUST web you so you can align quicker.
Bump the bumper. Use an alt to bump him with a faster, but still heavy ship so he can’t align very ell to bump you. It takes practice but you will emerge as a competent manual pilot.
Use a decoy ship. Keep getting bumped sufficiently far away before undocking your real hauler and then maneuver you decoy between bump ship and you hauler. This doesn’t work well with the Orca or larger but will work for a blockade running or smaller.
Just gank him with an alt.
These all have drawbacks and can be countered but if they need to use multiple accounts to counter, it gats harder for them and even though multiple lions can take down a single water buffalo, the rest get away safe. Sometimes you won’t, sometimes you will.
