SPACE IS WAAAY TOO BRIGHT!

I’ve got a desktop aquarium next to the screen with an actual grow light and EVE’s space is still too damn bright.

I see an advertising opportunity.

  • but you have to want to be done with the addiction

I had a roommate once that had 7 aquariums and terrariums in his room, and his was the darkest room in the apartment even with lights on all the time.

Let me say this again, turn on an actual light.

Of particular annoyance is how really bright stars are placed directly in line of sight to this or that gate or station. I end up having to turn the view away from the star until I have passed it. It doesn’t enhance my experience…it is just annoying. And metaliminal stuff has made that even worse. On a trip to a station on Uemisaissen yesterday, the entire screen was just blinding white.

Do CCP devs actually play the game ? If they do, are they provided with free arc welder goggles ?

Space isn’t always dark. In places like nebulae, huge clouds of gas and dust are lit up by nearby stars. Their light makes the clouds glow or shimmer, filling space with soft colors instead of black emptiness. From far away it looks calm, but those glowing regions can stretch across entire star systems.
Some nebulae shine because they reflect starlight, while others glow from energy inside them. Either way, they turn space into something bright and alive—more like a vast, glowing ocean than a cold, empty void.

No real nebulae are half as bright or vibrant. The photos we see are taken by radio telescopes that assign visible colour to light far outside the narrow band we can perceive, such as X-rays and infrared. In EVE we perceive the world through camera drones so the idea that we visually perceive these nebulae isn’t out of the question, and don’t get me wrong I do like having the nebulae, I just think they could be a bit less bright.

I agree, I also had to adjust some visual settings and as long as there exist ways for us users to do that – via Options or monitor – I doubt that CCP is going to bother to code it for us, and I don’t blame them.

Sunglasses are a good option if you wish to look into suns.

Luckily the EVE suns are a lot less bright than an actual sun, but it would be severely disappointing if suns in EVE weren’t bright at all.

Actually the reality is that most of the brightness and particularly the colours of nebulae, and the level of detail, are the result of long exposures. If you were actually in the middle of the Orion Nebula you’d see a bright but diffuse greyish glow, very little colour and detail.

THIS is purely a result of very long exposure…..its not what you would see if you were actually there…

but thats the point. i dont want to reduce brightness or change anything on my monitor. everything else ingame, like UI elements, maps, in station etc. is fine and awesome. but the “nebulas” are way to bright.

The suns are brighter at 25AU than they are if you are right next to them. Having never been to Hogwarts I’m not sure by what magic this occurs.

EVE used to be quite dark. Then they redid the nebula’s. Now I swivel the camera away 24/7.

It looks better. but plays worse imo

I agree.

Maybe the these threads need to be merged

If you go out into the desert or up in the mountains, and get away from street lights and photonic pollution, you can look up in the sky and see nebulae.

We can see them with the naked eye from lightyears away, but sure, they’re not bright at all.

Thank you. I thought it was just me.

True, but not everything has to be so realistic. This is a game. I like EVE backgrounds and nebulae, they’re beautiful. I can’t understand where these people are coming from complaining about them. Just turn your background off entirely if it so bothers you.

Ctrl + shift + F9.

As a pvper from the start, in my 1st post, I asked long ago for tinting on my starship. I have it in my car, why not thousands of years in the future. I just got my arse handed to me. I learned to deal with it, but I thought it got fixed?
