I agree with the complaints that folks wanted to be able to decide whether these gates go in - as I noted, I advocated for that internally. That isn’t what they decided to do. I’m sad that’s not the case, but I’m not going to die on that hill - this is a game development decision they made, and that they didn’t make it better or give us something that we want - the ability to have permanent impacts on the game - this time doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t do that in the future. I’m still going to push for those kinds of changes because I think they’re interesting.
If this is massive community outrage, you guys must have skipped the nullification change threads, lol.
A lot of people are complaining about the new stargate between Jita and Armarr is pointless. I would say that depends a lot on what will happen next. Imagine if the next event was to try and raise the security status of some systems.
And sure as people keep pointing out in this thread it would be nice if we could influence which systems get changed. But just be up front about it if some of the systems will change even without capsuleer involvement.
Either way it is actually nice to see the galaxy change a bit after Pochven was formed. Even if it seems rather minor right now, this could just be the beginning. The empires need to show that they can actually affect the galaxy too.
It is sort of weird to think of that the empires even need to build new stargates like this though. I would assume that there are thousands of systems that aren’t part of the public stargate network. Minor side systems that only have private stargates. Or they could maybe build new stargates to previously pointless systems that didn’t need stargates before.
As another resident of Solitude, I think it was a huge mistake for CCP to not at least include the ability for player agency in this event as well. It doesn’t really matter to me what the rewards are, if it’s a predetermined event with mining at its core, then it’s just not interesting for me, and I’d hazard a guess to say the majority of the playerbase as well.
Part of the reason that I was so active during Chapter 3 of the Triglavian invasions was that there were real consequences behind defending systems, and possible benefits derived from grinding them up. I’ll toot my own horn about this because I did pretty much do this one solo, but the fact that Harner in Solitude is even an Edencom MV is pretty much down to me, with perhaps a little bit of assistance from No Forks Given and other locals.
Point is, I spent two whole days no-life grinding the system to get to that point. That should be the kind of interaction that MMOs want. Real impacts on systems based on how players interact with them. With stuff like this, I’d just rather spin my ships in Aridia.
The difference is that this release fundamentally changes how CCP looks at this “sandbox”.
It hints at further catering to casuals while further nerfing or removing emergent content. The game has done just fine with very broad rules about what is and isn’t allowed. The fact that there are specific rules in place here for this event and were seemingly too lazy to just make those things impossible is telling us directly how they want us to play and interact.
There’s no grey area here to skirt. Just simply, hey these things are possible but don’t do them.
The nullification changes are just changes to general gameplay. It shakes the meta. This… this right here is a point where the way that this company fundamentally views their game and it’s direction is exposed.
Not being able to decide is not the issue, it’s just disappointing. The problem is, that CCP brought sites into the game which by design don’t work in the EvE sandbox. To make them work, they apply extra rules to the play not seen anywhere else. It started with the “don’t mess with arena runners” rule, and now this, which is a new quality.
Skins or Clothing are not a motivation to me. Try this instead, the most successful mining crews are integrated into Lore. A show info card on these gates whereby the Empire officially thanks participants.
Or instead of Skins/Clothing, the reward be actual faction mining modules.
Please change the Prospect to 3/4/3. With 4 lows I am better off armor tanking it, leaving the mids for cap/prop.
And since I am curious, a graph of use of mining ships. Do players bother with the Expedition Frigates?
I think you’re reading way too much into this. It’s a live event. There were issues with it when it came out, I passed on most of the biggest ones and I believe they are being addresssed. Some people who live in Solitude are extremely unhappy that CCP remembered they exist and are concerned that this will somehow change their region for something, something reasons.
If there is something else that is actually unprecedented in here that I am not understanding you being angry about, please let me know because it’s not really clear.
Nah, looks like it was a marriage between the introduction of the new gates and cleaning up the deactivated resource wars, without too much dev time (@Brisc_Rubal). They coined it an event, and perhaps we’ll see the return of the resource wars afterwards, to give the lovers of asteroids an alternative pastime with some fun rewards. Your choice to take part in it or not. Plenty of cookies on the platter if you don’t. The alternative could have been dropping the gates without fanfare - which would evoke other complaints about “content” etc. shrug
You’re wrong. The PR surrounding this as explicitly said by CCP was that we can choose a side. We can effect the outcome. That what we did mattered. None of that is true.
Minmatar Republic swears upon retaking or reconnecting Skarkon. So what happened with that?
But if one looks at the gate placement it is a fairly nice Center to Center movement gate. Rens and Eram will benefit from it. Hek kind of ends up on a weird route issue. So it might be the strange corner cut for the Silk Road.
But they should have also considered re-aligning the disabled gates in an event to add more connections around the map.
How fortunate for me that I place very little stock in your opinion. Shouldn’t you be off talking about how little someone’s piece is? Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.
