IF you are in WH space and put all your belongings in a password protected station hanger, does that hanger drop with the password intact so you can go collect your stuff later?
It’s been my experience that any containers that drop as part of loot are password-free (sorry, I realize this probably doesn’t answer your question entirely).
ok, so even if i PW protect it, it will lose that password when dropped and be accessible

From what I’ve researched, it seem as though if a citadel is destroyed the containers do drop, but they lose the password.

Not for certain, but all station containers we ever looted from citadels were freely accessible. And I have seen a LOT.
If that password protection would work, groups would probably try to use it as somewhat asset-safety mechanism and you probably would come across protected containers quite often.
So my guess is: it doesn’t work. And even if, the attackers would just destroy the container anyway, even lf half the stuff in there goes to the loot fairy. The owner still gets nothing back.

which is why it doesn’t work and per the devblog above, passwords are lost upon destruction of a citadel.
