Stations in Eve, need new models

Docking backgrounds would be a job for Graphics Team. What are your immediate graphics issues they should be doing instead in your opinion? According to October patchnotes they were improving mission assets, you know. Is it more pressing than docking backgrounds?

Do you prefer graphics team to do what? Game design, balance, programming? They’re graphics team! GTFO yourself.

Get rid of the graphics team and hire more actual developers to fix the bad stuff.

If they would not try to make VR games or vampire games but spent that cash on project nova or DUST for PC or WIS for EVE in past time, then maybe they would not have to fire so much of the devs.

Now future looks rather bleak for them, no matter what they will do. Money is the issue.

Players spend a significant amount of time docked because of various tasks that require it. A more interesting place, or variety of places for the eyes to wander to while involved in those tasks would make the game more appealing in subtle, yet important ways, to the player. The graphics team already knows how to do similar things, hence the constant ‘new ship skins’ that keep coming out.

It’s interesting to note that 7 years ago, a group of devs had the same attitude and nearly crashed EVE over it. It’s also interesting to note that some folks will simply never learn from experiences like that. Happily, you aren’t making decisions for CCP, not that they’ve been doing enough better to not require being bought out to survive.

While being docked doing interesting thing I don’t look at the station skin. It is a wallpaper. Period. Putting dev time in it is a waste of resources.

It’s also called ‘Immersion’ and Immersion is a way to keep more players in the game, hence keeping it alive longer.

There was some info about CCP working on redesigning stations inside already, about a year ago or something like that. Of course everything take years because of how small this team is actually. I think there was also some work towards making avatars show more frequently in UI, but you did not hear it from me.

The avatar work has probably been extremely backbenched simply because of the small size of the team now. I agree that the loss of staff has wrecked the timeline of most projects. But Nicolai’s objections to a graphics team give me an idea. I’ve been playing Dwarf Fortress too, and maybe we could have an option for an ASCII only EVE display… EVE Fortress! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But more seriously, graphics are important for immersion. However, only letting the team work on skins and telling subscribers that their subscriptions aren’t enough, that they need to be milked of more money each month in order to experience any additional graphic variety, seems like a dismissal of people that have subscribed already. Setting out additional station backgrounds for everyone would go some way to reversing that feeling of dismissal.

You mean more or less like when you open simultanously market window, overview, chat, corporation management, wallet, notepad, show info, compare tool, and skill queue? Who needs ascii when you can have unicode. :joy:

When it is useful for gameplay I agree. The station wallpaper has no “immersive” use besides being just a background picture while doing other stuff.

i would endorse this as long as it means updated models for the current stations + new models for faction specific stations (like pirate and independent stations being more than recolored versions of the regular ones) and including faction specific hangar environments.

i mean its weird to get to Sansha territory and stations are still Caldari or the like and have Caldari interiors instead of having been evolved into a design of their own with an aesthetic that reflects the design of their ships (spikes and cyberzombie style included)

I can agree with that.

Don’t worry, the new Masters will change the looks of everything…it’s what they do.
