Your losses within the game itself could perhaps be deleted, but what happens if other people involved in the loss take the record and share it outside the game?
There’s really no big problem with their persistence.
I have a terrible killboard but it hasn’t affected my gameplay, and I’m struggling to see how it would unless I was applying to some corporation which I wouldn’t really do anyway.
While you can ask for such a feature, it can also help to look at the losses in a different way.
For me they are fun memories.
That Taranis on top was when my alliance gave our old Keepstar in Delve a viking funeral. I took the ship to fly halfway across the universe in order to get to the Keepstar in time before the explosion and made some mistake losing transversal against some other group that was around. Oops. I docked my pod and had a nice view from inside the Keepstar though during it’s final minutes. Did you know there are flashing warnings within structures on most of the hologram billboards when the structure’s shield, armor or hull takes damage? I do now!
The second loss, the Proteus, was my first Ghost site. I wanted to give it a try and overestimated my tank, having flown T3Cs against NPCs more often. I knew the NPCs would bugger off after a short time of shooting me, but it was more damage than I expected and even though I overheated it was just enough damage to take my ship down. I adjusted my Proteus fit after that and gave it stronger repairs!
The Nemesis was a fun fight against Pandemic Legion in Querious where I often did mining, ratting and defending merc dens and Skyhooks against the many hostiles who lived within Blood Raider stations in Delve. In this case we had some fun shooting a small group who I believe was shooting a Metenox Moon drill of ours. We managed to scare them off, but suddenly the Raptor went in and tackled my Nemesis as the rest of his group jumped into the system and the rest of our bombers warped off to safety as we couldn’t take them all in a brawl. Rip.
Each of them a fun memory, even the losses!
Why would you want to erase history, remove your mistakes?
As someone with manageable OCD, I understand your feelings and sympathize.
That said, you are unlikely to ever get this requested feature. So, may I suggest an alternate approach:
Lose a bunch of ships intentionally. Like, a lot of them (10-20). They don’t have to be expensive ships. T1 frigates will do. Fit them up, take them to dangerous space, and try to get them blown up on purpose. Do this every time you suffer an unintentional loss. This will do two things:
Act as exposure therapy to your loss aversion. After some time, you may not feel so bad about losing a ship. And,
It will fill your losses window with losses that are not mistakes. You won’t feel bad when you look at them, because you meant to lose those ships.
I see in zkillboard that you had this cycle for multiple characters. One loss, biomass the character and start again.
But one version of your character managed to live for a much longer time, racking up kills and losses over the course of a few months. What was different then?
There is a saying: “The worst thing that’s ever happened to you is the worst thing that’s ever happened to you.”
Meaning that something in your life may be “traumatic” only because nothing worse has ever happened to you. When we are 14, something may happen to us that was “the most terrible thing ever.” When we look back on it at 40, we see “it wasn’t that big of a deal.” Time and experience give us perspective. The more adversity you endure, the more adversity you can endure, and the less meaningful any small setback.
How significant is losing a spaceship in a video game, compared to nearly losing your life? I think all you need is a slight change of perspective.
If you want to find gratitude in your own life, if you want to gain perspective, examine closely the lives of those much worse off than yourself.
EDIT to clarify:
No. Exposure therapy is like treating a fear of spiders by progressively exposing oneself to spiders:
First, be in the same room as a spider in a jar.
Then sit at a table with the spider in a jar.
Then hold the jar with the spider in it.
Then hold the spider in your hand without the jar.
Then cuddle on the couch with the spider while watching a romantic comedy.
But I still want one that costs a few dollars delete the record I really don’t want to delete the character anymore
This problem has been insurmountable for ten years, and I have been trying every time
Finally, I came up with this solution and came to the forum
Okay. But realistically, CCP is not going to give you what you’re asking for. It’s antithetical to the nature of EVE. So what I would recommend is, if you’re unwilling or unable to overcome this obsession with loss mails, there’s no sense torturing yourself further. You should go find another game in which full loot PVP is not a feature. There should be plenty out there to choose from.
