Suicide Ganking in High Sec

Your need to clarify brings up a great point: so many people confuse “solo play” with “playing alone”. It is possible to “play solo” with the full expectation of requiring MMO-level interactions. The problematic mentality isn’t “solo play” by itself, it’s when someone goes into Eve with the expectation to “play alone”. That expectation will be violated, usually violently.

To illustrate that difference: I do “solo play” out in NPC null, but I don’t expect to “play alone”, ever. I see someone in local, I wave. I wave even to the local pirates. Sometimes, it leads to a conversation. I’ve had the pirates give me improved fitting advice. It’s also how I learn serendipitous survival information – though chit-chat, I could learn of a gatecamp currently up, or $BIG_ALLIANCE fleet stomping about.

I totally understand why people who criticize the “play alone” mentality, usually criticize abyssal content. As it presents higher barriers to serendipitous player interactions than, for example, missing running – which will at least keep the mission runner in local chat.

Ya thuggery really serves CCP well. It keeps people employed over there hu?

CCP embraces the “HTFU” mentality, right?

That means one must of course, not be a hypocrite, and “htfu” when it’s their turn in in barrel.

Even if the person getting ■■■■■■ is CCP themselves.

Thanks for informing you are still butthurt.

Why is this answer acceptable. “It always has been so that is the way it is.” In Lore empires are all powerful why would they allow this on their watch? Low sec, Null sec I get it but High sec is space secured by mighty empires.

In Lore, the Empires don’t really care that we kill each other. They do care that a free for all would overflow into their other activities, which is why CONCORD exists. Not to stop capsuleers from killing each other, but to keep it in check.

as someone whos done ganking, i agree its kinda bs i can round up 10 nerds in 3m isk ships and btfo of someone flying billions

First of all, your lore is wrong. The empires are not all powerful, otherwise someone -5 to the Gallente Federation would get instablapped when entering their space, which doesn’t happen. The only “all-powerful” group is CONCORD, and they can’t be everywhere at once.

Second of all, lore is cool but game mechanics should always come first. I’d rather see a good change explained as a literal space wizard did it over a lore-friendly piss-poor status quo. You need to have some risk in highsec, so people are allowed to shoot at you if they can handle the penalty.

Lorewise, we are all insanely rich immortals - why do I give a ■■■■ what the Empires think about anything? I’ve got a titan fleet too. The Empires are just people, not capsuleers.

IRL police aren’t there watching your every move and reading your every thought to arrest you before you barely think to carry out a crime. They are there as a deterrent and to catch / punish you after the fact.

Same with Concord in highsec. Just the fact that they stop your movement and leave you absolutely no escape speaks to their massive power, if not being overpowered and immersion breaking. A 1000 man capsuleer fleet can’t even dent Concord even though capsuleers are supposedly immortal, massively wealthy, powerful, etc. In fact, Concord having this power and not the empires speaks to empire’s weakness.

Maybe they should release an expansion where the leader of Concord finally decides they are ready to “unite” all of New Eden under one banner by force. Players can fight for their Concord nannies or for freedom against Concord tyranny.

I am sure in your mind this has meaning but i agree with the OP.

Would you like anything explained, friend @Cherti_Stardust ?

Is it the meme itself that has no meaning for you or the idea of Schadenfreude in EvE Online?

I would be glad to answer any questions on this for you.

I would be happy to have you explain stuff but for your condescending attitude. Even Einstein said, “Stupid is as stupid does.”, or “attitude is more important then intelligence”. You can be the smartest person in the world but you might as well be stupid if no one listens to you because you’re rude.

Lol - nice  I guess the irony of calling someone condescending, stupid, and rude in the way you did escaped you or maybe you wouldn’t have done it.

Many quotes attributed to Einstein he never said but folks like to say he did as appeals to authority. I’m sure the quotes you used were nothing but genuine, though. I know for sure Forrest Gump’s mama said the first one. Heard him say so myself.

Have a special day, special friend. 0/

One: In my city, there is a police car parked across the street from the local yakuza HQ 24 hours a day.

Two: Pile up a handful of violent offenses, get caught, and folks will be banned from possession of weapons and perhaps even ordered to keep a distance from certain places and people. Violate those restrictions and it will be years before that person has a field of vision free of steel bars.

Three: Lore Empires are NOT equivalent to police anyway. They are EMPIRES, and any empire with any sense and that much power would waste no time in blasting banished terrorists the moment they tried to pass through one of their heavily patrolled gates.

The situation is insane, but welcome to video games where insanity is the rule rather than the exception.

There is only a tiny difference between preventive action across an entire street and across multiple regions of space. That difference is scale. Yes, CONCORD might be able to do the same and ban the all usage of Catalysts in that one shady corner in a side area of the Jita station.

Preventive measures across a solar system? Across multiple regions? Not comparable to the police car parked across your street.

CONCORD already is magnitudes faster than police in real life in terms of response time.

And so what? Them being parked there didn’t suddenly stop the Yakuza right? As you said the Yakuza are still there. Preemptive police wouldn’t need to park there because anyone upon “thinking” of joining the Yakuza would be executed by the ray of judgment. There would not be any Yakuza to watch.

Being “banned” from guns doesn’t mean you can’t get guns illegally. Plenty of people get guns that aren’t supposed to. Again you point out “reactive” police. The ban doesn’t prevent a criminal from getting a gun it assigned a heavier threat of punishment if you get caught. But as you can see, they can just go to the right person and get a gun anyway. Then the police have to catch them with the gun and dole out punishment. A preemptive police wouldn’t need to have police looking for people with illegal weapons. Preemptive police would simply strike down anyone thinking of owning one instantly.

And lore capsuleers have more options available to them with their god like powers than real people. The empires fear them and yet can’t stop them. The faction police are weak and a joke to the might of a capsuleer. The empires let them through the gate because otherwise the capsuleers attention would turn to decimating the empire vs whatever they are doing.

Gates are extreme bottlenecks and there are only a handful in each system and they are basically all camped. If gankers can see you coming from several systems away, surely so can Concord and FacPo. They also seem to be able to shut down your ship even its in the remotest safespot in a high sec system. All you gotta do is open fire illegally and you cannot even cloak.

I am really not sure what you are on about.

Luckily empires know that gates are extreme bottlenecks and have strategically placed gate guns in those locations.
