Those Golem slots you are using for the cap batteries and shield boosters give you an extra 36% shield…..so roughly 140K EHP. But if you scrap the shield boosters and use extenders and hardeners then the lack of cap batteries frees up two slots and you can get over 200K EHP out of it. And I’m pretty sure that would survive 5 gankers in a 0.6 system.
I am not often AFK, but it happens that I have to speak to customers and therefore do not have time to pay attention to EVE.
Well those shield boosters are useless if you are AFK…which is all the more reason to have used extenders and hardeners which you could have running all the time.
The fitting is designed so that all level 4 missions can be permanently tanked. If there is nothing to do at work, I can do a mission to tick off my dailys. If a customer walks in, I can just walk away for a moment without worrying—at least, that’s what I thought.
Yes, but you’re having to use up 2 slots for cap batteries to charge your boosters. The ‘boost’ you actually get only brings you to about 70% of of the total tank you’d get just scrapping that and using all hardeners are extenders. You’d survive the gank….and I don’t see why you wouldn’t equally survive the level 4 missions too.
Boosting your shield only really works if the average total DPS against you is less than what your boost can generate. Above that, it becomes a liability in shorter conflicts where other methods would give you more overall tank in the first place.
Of course, this is not the intention. That is why I have serious doubts about whether EVE really still suits me. I understand the thinking behind ganking, but ganking without making a profit is completely illogical. That only shows how easy it actually is. Even with a -10 security standing, you can still gank in high sec.
Nothing was active when the Golem was ganked. It is not so much about how the Golem was fitted, but how often ganking occurs. I have been writing here on the forum for a few days now, and a clear picture is emerging of what is actually taking place in high sec.
Are we supposed to care???
Should I take your opinion seriously, otherwise? I don’t think your opinion adds much, because you only serve your own interests anyway.
But that’s just it. You were able to be ganked because you had nothing active. Shield booster is useless if you are not there to activate it. Likewise with bastion mode. So basically your Golem had just 75K EHP and was a sitting duck easy target….and not the 140K EHP it could have had.
Whereas in my case, activating extenders is the very first thing I do on entering any system. Which makes me far less likely to be ganked if I am called away. My Golem would be sitting there with 140K EHP even without bastion mode.
And that…..is why you get ganked and I don’t.
Sometimes RL calls you away and you cannot check if everything is running. It is a shame that EVE has reached this point, where you can’t even leave your character alone for a moment without immediately losing your ships/pods. Getting pod killed with a -10 character in high sec, what’s the deal? It’s all happening way too easily.
So that means I cannot play EVE on these moments, which is really a shame.
It sounds like what you actually want is a game from the Idle genre.
very definition of AFK…
you are wrong and know it so stop mewling
again your mentality is wrong…
This is exactly how eve is designed…
dock up
your ship loss was totally your fault and no one cares that you dont care.
no one can fix stupid…
and we should never be expected to try
It’s not the game’s fault…it is yours. EVE is, and has always been, a game where you can be attacked at any moment ( by both players and NPCs ) and you have to be alert all the time.
Fact is, in the system you got ganked in, there’s no less that four NPC stations you could have docked up in if you had to go AFK. It’s as simple as click on station and ‘dock’. But you just sat there at the stargate and went AFK….and got ganked as a direct result.
There’s absolutely nobody to blame except you. What’s more….why are you even fitting shield boosters ( rather than extenders ) if you know you have to be AFK often and will not be able to activate them ??
You are so right. You can’t be expected to activate your defensive modules or dock up on a station before going AFK. It’s just sad what this game has turned into, that you can’t even sit at a gate near the biggest tradehub in the game with a defenseless 1 billion ISK ship. God, it’s so dumb having to deal with griefers when you just want to enjoy the game, like when is CCP finally going to fix this problem and ban ganking forever??
With tearful regards

That is why modules were disabled, as RL happens, so it was not a reason to click “Dock” button or turn on a defence mode… I see… Smart move.
PS: have they charged you for their Docking service or they docked you for free?
Many pilots asks me, how to fly a Golem in winter. What to do if engine stuck and weather is too cold… here is a main tip from me! Use my undocking service!
Mail me in game about time, location and attach 100M ISK so I will know that it is not a scam (90M ISK will be returned later, so price is just 10M ISK). I will help you to launch your Golem with doubled DPS for 5 hours!
You will need just to undock Golem when I will be around and dock your POD back to the station (as gankers can be around and I care about your safety) as it will take around 2 minutes to boost your DPS. I have so many clients who loves my service, so please inform me 24 hours ahead.
You have nothing to afraid of, I will arrive with Police ships (blue NPC ships) who will make you sure that your Golem is in a good hands!
PS (edited): for extra 10M ISK I will pull CONCORD to your station, so you would not worry about gankers at all as Police + CONCORD, what can be more secure in this universe?
Your lovely, Lala
It probably doesn’t. If you want the option to “pause” anytime you want to, chose a game that isn’t time sensitive and/or can be “paused” on demand. EVE Online is a real-time massmultiplayer space sim in which anyone can chose to attack you at any time if he sees a chance to gain whatever from it. Make a guess how far you will come by flying multibillion ISK ships around with a pilot basically asleep at the wheel.
I mean, EVE can be played semi-afk, but not the way you do it. You can do L4s in a passive-bricktanked Nighthawk just orbiting the site and spamming Heavy Missiles. Basically no one will bother ganking that ship and chewing through 300k eHP within 20seconds for a possible 20M loot drop. Well, unless you stay afk on a gate for like an hour, then someone might simply want to drop you a message delivered by Neutron Blasters. For the fun of it. But in regulary missioning or traveling around you don’t need to have any concerns about being ganked. You won’t print money as fast as in a Golem tho. Make your choice.
