I easily completed the tutorial missions but am having a lot of trouble with normal missions… in the tutorials you could see the cartel appear on the overview, lock targets, and pretty much defeat each one after the other. Not that I expect regular missions to be quite so easy, but three ships later, Ive yet to see their approach and my ship explodes before I even know they are there, its almost instant. Any tips for PVE encounters would be greatly appreciated. I dont know what Im doing wrong, it cant be this difficult to survive these mission encounters. Thanks!
what missions are you doing? Blood Stained Stars?

From your description, it sounds like you don’t have your overview set up correctly. I’d try checking there first.
On your Overview there should be a tab described as “ALL”. The “ALL” tab is not automatically updated, so anytime something new is added to the game, you need to update that tab.
Since, given the context, it is easy to update, and once updated will show everything in space, I’d start there. If you can see the npc on that tab, but not on the tab you are using currently, that means you need to add the entity to your preferred tab.
This is more of a “blood and guts” EVE detail, you’ll have to deal with sooner or later; but, the overview needs to be updated to “you”. Customized is perhaps a better description. It is worth really digging into, as it is complicated (and lots of people relay on the overviews customized by other players), but if you can do this for yourself, it will make your life…easier.

Thanks Christine! I tried it, but I need labels I downloaded a couple Im trying now, I think I found one I like but I havent run it up against npc pirates yet to see if they show.
