With the removal of the jukebox, the paring down of the song list to about 15 tracks (even if you override the fascist ‘dynamic music’), turning aura into a frigid bitch, and teasing us with excellent individual sound sliders, then taking them away; I’m pretty sure the sound guy(s) at CCP just hate the game and/or playerbase.
Like everything CCP says, “hey lets remove this if not a lot of people are using it” Pulls metric data on the function/feature…“Look guys says less than 40% are actually using it, no point in keeping it the game” What they then fail to realize is that everyone and their brother in game has at least 2 accounts concurrently active, with a large portion hitting 4-5 accounts. Why in the world would I need to adjust sound settings, use the jukebox, or any other audio options on the other 1-5 clients when I could just do that one the primary client I use? I don’t think CCP accurately factors in alt accounts when making their decisions regarding audio.
I really must go on a YouTube hunt for videos with the old Aura in, will be interesting to compare
I actually don’t think they care. I know I am relatively new but I haven’t seen anything that suggests they are making decisions based on what people want / like. From the moment I arrived I’ve seen nothing but questions about why Captains Quarters is gone, and daily have people in Rookie Help asking if they can leave their ship and walk around. The volume of interest / enthusiasm doesn’t fit the ‘nobody used it’ excuse I have heard over and over.
Because nobody used it, because it was a resource hog designed for a different game and added zilch to the game. The (tiny) minority who did use it are just the loudest. Most people were perfectly happy when CCP threw it out.
Let’s stop with the revisionist history CCP wants to propagate. It wasn’t used because CCP got their soiled panties in a wad over GREED IS GOOD being lit on fire by the playerbase and decided to abandon WiS while blaming WiS for the uproar when Jita burned.
Saying noone used it was a falsehood supported by manipulative data, ignoring the fact WiS was A.) not the default view for new players or even old, and B.) those who did use it got tired of just staring at a tv and watching CCP ignore any further development.
First World Problems.
Even than…if you got a restaurant and only a small amount of people ordering vegetarian meals, or the special mushroom soup of the cheff, which is not for everyone’s taste. it doesn’t mean you have to take out of the menu, considering it would take more effort to take it out in this case of eve online I bet than leave it.
That’s what defines your quality on these terms.
I have heard all this before, several times. I just don’t believe a word of it.
Well… i mean as usual Sindara your refusal to believe something does in fact not make it incorrect
Allow me to link you some reference forum posts from the Incarna release…
Tommbo
“Intel i7 960, stock 3.3ghz, 12gig DDR3 RAM, 2 x GTX480 in SLI.
CQ basically tries to melt my video cards, they shoot right up to 94C, the fan hits overdrive and it still doesn’t cool. I don’t have this in any other game, modern or not, and it’s not an issue with airflow, thermal paste, dust, faulty hardware.”
Kaetzuo
“I’ve got a intel i7 920 @2.7Ghz. 6Gb ram & a GTX 260 (192 core version ) and I shoot up to 97% GPU load and upto 85C. CPU runs upto 70% load with 70C temps.”
Damon Arnoles
“Same issue for me, with a i920 and a GTX570 + GTX460.
Overheating with 2 or 3 clients.
2 GPU at 100% of load in Captain’s Quarters … and 90& for each GC.”
Othran
“Now given the amount of people who have complained about gpu heat since Incarna, and given that a lot of them also play modern FPS games without problems, the only logical conclusion to come to is that there’s some atypical code which has been created by CCP. Its either that or a hell of a lot of “coincidences” Wink”
Nilesa Tanaka
“I, myself, have the same issues. My GPU (graphics card) stays at 60C to 65C and that’s normal so no problems there. The problem is the CPU. I’ve seen it shot up approximately 10C to as high as 20C jump. The highest recorded temperature I’ve seen post-Incarna was 88C.”
Basically CQ was pants, messed up loads of peoples computers and never really looked good or felt right anyway.
Also the fact that players voted with their wallets against CQ and the whole monoclegate and unsubscribed at enough force to cause CCP to do layoffs, which likely caused them to not want to pursue that content anymore.
No, my difference in opinion, not my refusal to believe something. Your opinions are just opinions, not doctrines that others must follow. You are not a religion.
Krima Sumyungi told it like it is as far as I am concerned, and what I have seen for myself supports her view of events. To recap:
I notice you are not arguing with her comments. You skipped straight past hers to argue with mine. Why is that?
I think I have seen this discussion about Aura before. Many times.
It looks like this:

I hate religeon of most kinds on the basis they involve belief in something without sufficient evidence. What i said was a slight exageration at best. Allow me to fix it :
Because HARDLY ANYONE used it, because it was a resource hog …
What part of that in your “opinion” is incorrect? It was famously CPU heavy and sent loads of peoples computers into overheat, there’s loads of evidence in the forums from the time, and i provided a bunch. 3% of players had their view set to the captains quarters in the last days of it’s availability. In the history of it’s use that number never spiked above an 18% or so initial spike judging by the long term graph on the CCP usage report. Facts are why this has nothing to do with religeon.
Because she did not challenge the facts it was a resource hog or that nobody used it. She made interesting points about WHY nobody used it. Maybe more people would have used it if it was better, or if it was the default new player view even. But it was a fail, it was boring, and as it stood for three years hardly anyone used it.
She did actually. So that only leaves the other possibility.
We both know what you are doing and why so spare me your dishonesty.
I used CQ. Want it back. New Aura is ok.
Everyone have oppinions.
So I have just re-subbed after a 2 year break from playing for 7+ years, and I must say the new Aura isn’t very appealing. It feels so stale. Someone made the point that it feels too immature and jubilant and I would have to agree.
For what it’s worth, I want my old Aura back. It’s just something about a calm English accent that makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
Who are you people… arguing over the video-game virtual-voice-lady…
CCP should sell voice packs… A handful of women and men, maybe some famous voice actors, celebrities…
I’d love to have Morgan Freeman tell me things in game… Maybe Fran Drescher.
Itll be about royalties… or the original not wanting creditted anymore
Or maybe not being available for the new tutorial stuff and needing to replace the rest for continuity?
I prefer the last version of her voice, but I don’t care too much as I mostly play without sound.
Take Mah Money!!!
