CSM,
Anyone know what the 180MB patch is about? It downloads daily, used to be 168MB. Will it hit 200MB next year? And what exactly is patching? Many are curious. Cheers.
CSM,

It’s normal for the EVE launcher to download a daily patch of around 150–180 MB. Players have been reporting this for months, with sizes jumping slightly depending on what CCP is updating. These aren’t full game patches—most of the time they’re small, incremental changes to the client framework, asset bundles, UI elements, audio files, or data tables. Even a tiny tweak to graphics or sound can require a refreshed bundle, which explains why the download is always roughly the same size.
What’s actually being patched varies day-to-day. Some days it’s bug fixes or UI changes, other days it’s updated textures, icons, audio, or pre-loaded files for upcoming content. CCP also pushes silent backend changes through these daily bundles. Because they use compressed asset packages, you download the whole changed package even if only a small part of it was modified, which is why the size feels repetitive.
As for whether it will hit 200 MB next year—honestly, it could. Asset bundles naturally grow over time as the game adds ships, SKINs, graphics tweaks, and sound updates. Unless CCP restructures the asset system, the daily patch size may slowly creep upward. But functionally, this is just EVE’s normal workflow of delivering continuous small updates rather than giant single patches.
In short: the daily 180 MB download isn’t a bug, isn’t your launcher glitching, and isn’t CCP hiding anything dramatic. It’s simply the way their asset-update system works now.
This daily 180MB patch does nothing in terms of bug fixes or other updates. It’s completely undocumented what it does. There are never patchnotes for it and it comes inaddition to the actual patches.
Theyve said before there wont always be notes.
Day 1: 180mb patch : fed hamsters
Day 2 180mb patch: watered hamsters
Day 3 180mb patch: fed hamsters again
What do you think that 180MB could be if not what I enumerated in my previous post?
Does no one read patch notes? Patch Notes - Version 23.02 | EVE Online Also it’s the week of an expansion, there are going to be daily patches to fix stuff…
The patch notes do not tell you what’s in the 180MB. They only tell you what’s in the 800MB that followed yesterday’s 180MB payload. This 180MB always comes in addition to the actual, big patch, it has nothing to do with the expansion or other point releases or whatever. It’ a complete blackbox and only clueless people would say “read the patchnotes”.
I have no idea at all. Since this patch has no patchnotes when it happens on its own and only patchnotes only appear when it’s followed by a bigger patch, there’s no telling what it does. Everything you listed would warrant a patchnotes entry (as they even do notes for really irrelevant one liners like the Kitsune skin debacle recently) and usually gets a mentioning in the notes.
Dunno what to tell you man, there’s been patch notes every day since release…
Yes, for the big patch payloads. Not for the small 180MB preload. And there have not been any patchnotes for any of the small 150-170MB payloads in the past months since this started to take place, let alone an explanation by CCP.
Your toxic ignorance to what’s going on never ceases to amaze me.
I have a feeling CCP knows what it is but wont tell
CCP isn’t the CIA. There is no reason for them to slip mysterious codes in their customers’ PC and try to keep it a secret. It isn’t like their codes can’t be read by anyone.
So once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. ![]()
The frequent downloads must be one of the things I already mentioned further up.
