I heard from a new player who was playing SOE Epic on the Help Channel that they were shot down while carrying “Corin Risia.”
At first, I thought it was Low sec, so I checked it out, but it turned out to be Laurvier.
Interference during SOE Epics is prohibited, but if there are people in a Corrupted Zone, I’d probably shoot them. Still, the area right next to Arnon is probably a bit too tough for beginners.
Hey, no worries, we all had to start somewhere. But if you keep trying and learn from your mistakes, while keeping a good attitude about it, you will soon be on the level of the local regulars. Then you can shoot all the capsuleers doing the SOE arc all by yourself! Hooray!! \o/
Just my opinion, I was a beginner in 2023, if you take a look at the killboard for my 3 characters, you will see I lost many those ships in 2024. It didn’t take me that long to figure things out.
Since then, not much loss. I mine in LS, I do some hauling too, I still take some risks but I am very aware of where the gankers are hiding, and they are very predictable.
I think the better ( safer ) Epic Arc for new players is Fractured Legacy and will bore most players to tears before it ends. The rewards are ISK, free pioneer ship, and training manual.
Is there a ban on ALL ganking in rookie systems? Or is it just interefering in missions, i.e. scanning out and warping to people who are in the middle of their starter missions pockets and killing/looting/disrupting them on purpose?
initially it was just for newbs.. i think if the newbs are still running it before they turn 30, then yea still off limits.. anyone not under 30 days is fair game.
Attempting to abuse a new players lack of knowledge of the game and its mechanic for your personal gain or simply for their harm is prohibited in these solar systems. This includes, but is not limited to;
Tricking new players into situations where you or others may open fire on them freely
Stealing or scamming ISK or assets from them
Hindering a rookie’s progress in completing the Tutorial / NPE Arc
Stealing or scamming ISK or assets meant for Rookies is likewise covered by this policy within these systems.
SoE Arc
Given the variety of systems this arc can take place in, players are asked to refrain from any form of griefing to rookie players (30 days old or less) in mission sites and systems associated with the arc. Such griefing involves but is not limited to; destroying, stealing or ransoming mission critical items.
This Epic Arc mainly leads rookies to the following systems:
Regarding this matter, if you entered lowsec, got your ship shot down and lost it, and can’t progress with the quest because of that, then that’s your own fault for being careless, so be more careful next time.
so I explain it with a laugh, but,
For “Corrupted Regions” in a rebellion, if you prioritize safety, the route won’t avoid them even if they lie along the path to your destination.
A warning message appears when you first log in, so it’s your own fault for not reading it. I suppose I could say that, though.
In a lawless region, the shooter would naturally consider firing at a moving ship to be standard practice.
But the fact that this happened in high-sec—right in the middle of an SOE epic arc mission—leaving the quest stalled unless a support ticket is filed…
Is this really the sort of thing where you can just say, “I’ll be more careful next time,” and leave it at that?
As for the highsec along the route, I think it would be fine to change them to 0.8 and exclude them from the rebel-held areas.
Well, since it’s a world where you have to learn the hard way, this might be a slightly overprotective opinion.
By the way, the terms and conditions regarding SOE Epics are outlined below.
That all stands for everyone who is familiar with these game mechanics. Every single game is designed in a way that the starter missions or game levels are serving as sort of an extended tutorial. At this point everyone just assumes that the game designers crafted the mission/game level to be suitable for new players that are still learning game mechanics. There is also an unwritten rule in game design that failure is soft, meaning that the game is designed in a way that you can easily recover from it (if you are allowed to fail at all) without any consequences. At least for starter levels/missions.
Corruption is a convoluted mechanics that is maybe roughly described in some of many windows and sub-windows and requires digging deep, if it’s described at all. Even if a new player reaches a corrupted system and the warning appears, the experience from many other games is suggesting that it will be OK, and it’s not.
So, from one side - you are right. From another side, it’s a horrible game design that clashes with previous experience from gaming in general.
Ok but it isn’t griefing, the system is low sec so killing people is essentially legal, so i wouldn’t expect anything to really be done about it, the incursion will leave on its own in a few days iirc, CCP just need to adjust the spawn code for next time
Right, but yes they can, because they define the initial system that is affected, players don’t spawn them, so they could quite easily adjust the spawn locations to exclude anything near enough to Arnon if they wanted
Well, no, not unless the first post was very misleadingly worded:
As a noob myself, I’d be very much in favour of something like this being adjusted, because if you’re on a tutorial-ish mission and believe you’re in high-sec, the warning may not mean much as you arrive at the gate. I certainly hadn’t even heard of “corruption” until reading this thread (and I will now have to go and look it up ).
