The camera fetish

Hello EVE,

It seems as if the devs have a fetish for grabbing the camera. For example if you board most capital ships the camera is being restrained while docked.

When you board a new ship for the first time the camera is grabbed

When you jump through a stargate the camera is grabbed

When you come out of warp at a station the camera is grabbed

Is there any other places this would be cool?

It is almost as if the game wants to deliver a cinematic experience in those cases.

A really, REALLY poor cinematic experience when it comes to capitals as their restricted camera slings you around the hangar with every irrelevant click you make in the hangar surface. This is not cinematic at all.

You can turn this off.

Turn Tactical Camera off and use Orbit Camera. That option does not pan your camera around after a gatejump.

This only happens when you have the camera setting “Auto Tracking” enabled. Turn it off.

What really annoys me is the camera spinning around and slowly zooming out when you undock. It invariably changes where the zoom ends up, and the only way to disable it also disables the ability to have camera track the target, which scrubs like me use for spiraling.

CCP, please fire whoever added this “feature”.

Turn off the dynamic camera in the settings.

That disables the ability to track a target, which I use for spiraling.

No, it only disables automatic tracking. You can still activate it manually:

… or with a shortcut key:

I’m still hoping that CCP will eventually speak to someone who undocks and ask them for feedback on all these new graphics and sounds.

I think there should be a cinematic when ships blow up with all the details of the hull tearing apart before the flashy conflagration.

Obviously I’m not running with auto-tracking on, that would be incredibly annoying, but when they first added the undock spin-zoom nonsense I disabled the dynamic camera option because they said that would get rid of it, but then the track target button stopped working. I tried a bunch of things and wasn’t able to fix it, so I resigned myself to just let my hatred for that one specific dev grow with each undock. I guess I’ll give this another try next I play.
