Since when few hundreds considered a not significant? At least this how I see your point of view. What if those lets say 400 been 300 Macha men fleet and 100 Carrier men fleet?
I never said its unsignificant. I said, it could have been alot worse and that people should have some perspective regarding Eveās capabilities. 3 years ago, the server would have crashed with 4000 people in the system.
Something was done, that has never been done before. There were flaws, there were bugs, ofc, but thats up to CCP to try and correct some of that and change the games meta to make it run better.
The way the fleets were setup was cancerous to all players, CCP and the server performance. Even Mittani wrote a blog about how cancerous the fighter meta fleet is, because it grinds server performance to a halt and makes capital fights dull.
As I already said in other threads about that fight, itās pretty much lame keep saying that having ability to accommodate 3000+ in one system due to system hardware upgrade but in the meantime having such a nasty lagfest as soon as those starting engaging each other. Its just better not to have such ability at all. And come back to the small scale fights on different nodes seeded in the neighbor systems or whatever solution is.
Otherwise its like on Black Friday when crowds of angry nerds trying to enter into the only one available entrance.

Now, if nobody had brought fighters, the entire battle would have looked very differently and the server lag would have been a whole lot less severe.
stuffing 6000 people into a system, will bring any server to its knees.
Theres a VERY BIG difference in having 6000 people and having 6000 people and 2000 fighter entities⦠The Mittani wrote a blog about this very issue and how the fighter meta is ruining the game for players, mostly because of performance impact on the server, when you launch thousands of fighters.
There is only one easy way to stop large fleet battles, cap the system number off. But then all you gotta do is become a big entity and nobody can touch you, so thats a very bad solution.
So CCP needs to dig down and figure out how to solve this issue and it cannot be solved by upgrading hardware again. Its a software issue.
Capping the node would make things funny.
Imagine this battle and how it would play out if the system were capped at 3000 ships.
It would be a race at downtime the day the structure was coming vulnerable. The defenders and agressors would all try to get their ships in as soon as the servers were up⦠and leave them logged in. If Goons got the drop and got 2500 in system as soon as downtime was over⦠victory. They would just wait until the timer was up and have unstoppable odds.
If they didnāt⦠theyād just call it off and reinforce the timer and try to mass log again the next time. As long as they get in first once⦠they win.
I remember one timer back in 2011 when IT and allies was defending vs some ārussiansā (i donāt know who those russians were). And at some point system in question was filled with like 2000 people with huge bubble sphere around gates and mane big fleets around camping entrance. It was scary and great at the same time.
I even made some screenshots of clouds of carriers, supercarriers and titans aroundā¦

I meant low secs, which is enjoyable because the action is fast paced and you can just jump in and get going. Though I do certainly enjoy going in and out of holes.
