A beach is a beach, unless it’s something spectacular… Urban beaches in Barcelona are relatively recent, when I was a child we had to cross factories and railway tracks to reach to the beach, which was as abandoned as it could be (and usually dirty): it was literally a stretch of sand beyond the industrial areas by the railway tracks. It didn’t changed until the late 80s when the factories were demolished, the railway depots were closed and dismantled and then people “discovered” that Barcelona had beaches after all!

Ah, discovering that you have a beach must be a great feeling. 
In my town we “rediscover” it every summer. They have to drive with trucks and put some sand on it or it will be a grassy beach beside river.

Workers are building parking with new surface just outside the office windows. Its a sand and curbs now, but they are working fast. Soon we will have a new parking with flat surface. 
The previous parking was not so flat and looked ugly, it was made years, years ago when the factory was built.
