The like and get likes thread

Well, the probem is not that they’re paid 15 cents. The problem is that consumers pay up to 180 cents (1.80 euro) for that same fruit, and all the difference goes to the distribution chain. If you ever buy fruit in a place like a Carrefour (or enter whatever big shop leads your EU country), you’re making the farmer lose money because he can’t afford to let the crop rot (or keep it forever in a frigorific chamber) while Mr. Big Shop agrees to pay him 30 cents instead of 15.

WTF are you doing eating Asian vegetables? And where do you live that vegetables are so dirt cheap?

Ohio, the breadbasket of America. And I just about cook entirely Asian - arguably the best balanced and most nutritious cuisine in the world. And some say - like myself - the best tasting.

I translated a Mandarin blog once which analyzed American food from an Asian perspective. Regarding hamburgers and french fries, it was the commentator’s observation that “Americans flavor their food with fat.”

Hard to argue that, actually.

We have several supermarket chains that are all in competition. The problem isn’t so much that the farmers wouldn’t have a choice, it’s that the consumers are after cheap stuff.
The only one that’s really enforcing a low-price policy is Aldi and the quality is comparable.

The option for quality wares farmers can make a living with exists, but not too many consumers are buying that. The most decide by whatever is cheapest.

I’d willingly pay more for better tasting, better quality fresh food, but it practically doesn’t exist.

It does here, but most people don’t want to pay for it :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, that’s what Asian tell you so you buy their stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

But living by the Mediterranean, you can figure what do I think about Asian cuisine compared to what we eat regularly. Even if my own personal diet is a disaster, I coud improve it just by bothering myself to take the time it takes to cook a decent dish of vegetables.

I’ll politely beg for a little more credit than that - I’ve been an amateur chef all my life. But I’ll give you this much - Mediterranean food might be in second place in the healthy and nutritious category. It’s also easier to prepare than just about any regional cuisine.

Well, it’s also a bit of opportunity cost. I do know where to find in my neighborhood a weekly market that sells vegetables straight from the farm, but going there, finding the vegetables, coming back home… would take a lot more time than just buy some frozen vegetables from the supermarket I have literally across the street. And also since it’s a weekly market, well, tough luck if you didn’t buy what you needed last week.

I infiltrated CCP. Let’s hope they don’t find out. I suggest we use codenames. You can refer to me as Uncle Grumpy from now on. Each time CCP discovers our codenames, we change them! So from now on you can call me Grumpy Saladbar.

Well, now seriously, I think that every region haves the regional cuisine they can. It’s not necessarily the best, just whatever was growing, or could be imported to grow, there. And since it is regional, well, how do you sell a rare vegetable abroad? It must be sold as best, or at least as special. That works better when a region doesn’t really haves a regional agriculture, but then, if I want rare vegetables, they do exist in my market. Most are varieties of larger families, and some are quit strange (some so strange that I haven’t eaten them personally).

So well, if you like Asian cuisine, certainly Asian love to sell it to you. Is the best? Maybe just different…

Oh my god, this scene here in Suits.

Louis’ first therapy session:

  • “I’m sorry, but, did you just speak in a German accent?”
  • “Please, take a seat.”
  • “Holy ■■■■ you’re a god damn nazi”
  • "~Silence~… What did you just say to me?
  • “I said that I’m not gonna sit here, talk about the weather and let go of my god damn feelings. Thanks but no thanks, Wiener Schnitzel”

And then the doc goes on about how he’s Jewish and his parents survived by fleeing the war…

Orange are still sweet and sour, unless you choose a lousy orange. :worried: Bananas however actually do have an “old” version, classic bananas were ravaged by a plague and now only exist in special conditions. The ones most people know now are modified to resist the plague and are not as sweet. Sadly they still struggle to grow even the resistant bananas.

I pay extra for real vegetables much of the time, and always try to find meat that is not from barbaric farms. I do not have a lot of money, but I would rather eat less food than fake/tortured food.

Lastly, all the Fallout games are amazing. I do remember when FO3 came out, not only was I excited for a first person Fallout experience, but I thought it was hilarious to find a game where you are actually born at the start. I currently am playing Fallout4, I have 2 toons, a normal mode toon, and recently started a survival mode toon (but have a mod that allows saving, because saving only while sleeping is silly, and makes you sleep too much)
