Tbh … they should just embrace micro-transactions.
It’ll suck a ton of money out of people like me, I love it. I’ll pay for the useless stuff, I’ll even indulge in a little pay-to-win so long as it’s not entirely unbalanced. The amount of money this stuff makes is insane, and if you want your game to be successful and long-lived you want it making a ton of money.
Except EVE is built on a different foundation, with a playerbase vehemently opposing exactly that. CCP is getting there, but only step by step. Death by a thousand cuts. If they were to just hit the switch, they’d kill EVE overnight. But as it stands the playerbase is shrinking with every cut anyway, so EVE is a goner either way. At least this way they get to milk the remaining players for a little while longer.
So that was the reason why my computer decided to update itself. 
Yeah. I dunno. I don’t think it’s quite that bad yet, but I haven’t really been plugged in here for quite a while. I think they made some bad decisions along the way, one was rejecting more microtransactions, the other turning away from any other gameplay (e.g. avatar) for pure spaceship focus. If they’d kept the money they lost in recent failed ventures and pumped it into the old “vision” for what EVE would eventually be like, I bet we’d be 3/4 of the way there by now and this game on top of pretty much anything else out there.
They took a gamble to satiate the space-purist players … and it didn’t pay off. But I don’t think it’s lost yet either. It’s still got enough to draw me back, and new people in. But yeah, it scares me a little seeing how down the forum is on activity (particularly) and ingame too (though not quite so bad as the forums).
They’re selling SKINs, that’s their MT model. But it will only take them so far with their shrinking PvE population.
And frankly, a company that won’t add missions because people like them just can go to hell IMO.

I think that author has read all the bad news about Facebook, took a glance at Reddit and saw the magic fix that isn’t there. With Facebook, everyone has his own echo chamber. On Reddit, it’s the hivemind bolstering power-hungry mods who set the narrative. Two sides of the same cursed coin.

But unfortunately 3d characters are one of my weak points, and CCP never helped it. I managed only some 2D characters from the game or 3D acesories for characters, modelled 3D but it was only roughly similar and never showed it, because shy.
