The like and get likes thread

It’s not that I’m defending the companies, per se, I’m just not demonizing them. It’s the consumer that made them the way they are. Lets shift the blame properly.

It’s psychology at work. The companies are deliberately manipulating their users to gain more and more market share and proliferate themselves above any competition, then use their market share to kill any competition and drive into markets they had no foot in before.

So, instead of focusing on slapping down the Google’s, the Walmart’s and the Amazon’s, perhaps focusing more on getting people to support local business would be better?

I dont know… Companies know how to manipulate consumer.

People aren’t going to do it themselves. Honestly, they’re too dumb for that. Companies are manipulating them in ways you can’t even imagine, so the only thing that has any chance at all to keep us from a future society in which mega corporations rule the world are government regulations to keep that from ever happening.

Thats because consumers are still lazy sheep.

I’m still not going to demonize the companies for being successful. I work PT for a small family owned BBQ restaurant. I try to talk them up as much as possible because they make great food, and take care of the employees that work hard for them.

They beat out the local BBQ chain restaurant for best BBQ in MN.

I’m fairly certain that they, at no time, said “we made too much money this year, we better scale back”.

Actually, I sort of can imagine. I have a broadcasting degree and had to study psychology and marketing as part of the requirements.

Regardless, you cannot blame the companies for people being too stupid or lazy to put some effort into their consumerism.

The way Google promotes their own services is something that at most 1% of the consumers are ever going to notice or do something against. That is anti-competitive behavior at its finest, using their massive search engine market share to kill off competitors in other markets by simply penalizing them so hard in their search engine that they don’t get any traffic.
That’s not the users’ fault, that’s entirely on Google.

Who’s to make the decission of what is the best shop for your needs? You, or Google?

And how that shop should be suggested to you? By their own merits, or by paying Google?

See, Google haves a huge share of the EU market for search engines. The moment Google stopped being neutral and promoted shops who paid them for being part of GoogleShopping, the EU warned Google and has been warning them for 7 years since, until the time for warnings is gone.

Being monopolsitic doesn’t means they’re saints. And when they start cheating people, somebody must stand.

It is psychology at work, and it’s not just Google that does this, and tbf it happens irl. Companies know how to use advertisements to their advantage, it’s the customers that need to do research before picking up the first thing they see and shop around.

Being hidden the alternatives it’s not being lazy on your part…

Page 1: Paid Google!
Pge 2: the other guys, maybe best, maybe worst, maybe equal… but they didn’t pay Google.

Not trying to be a d**k here, but I’m unclear on what you’re trying to say.

So are you saying that 1% will notice the promotion?

1% are going to bother scrolling through 10 sides of search results to not use the service Google prominently displays right at the top.

But, this is how something like a search engine actually makes money. It’s the same with Youtube or Facebook. You charge advertisers and you make money and stay in business. If people had to pay a money subscription to use Google, Facebook or Youtube, they would have died on the vine ages ago.

Are there no other search engines in the EU?

Now, if the EU made a deal with Google that they didn’t live up to, that’s another story. If they are cheating people, thats also another story.
