The new EVE Online launcher Beta

The launcher was made by unhealthy people with limitations of logic … When switching to the size of the oncna - large … on a small monitor - there is no way to return the position back - only a rearrangement of the game … And in general, the game lags more with each update

Well it’s a beta launcher. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hear it has some merit to it so it’s a wait and see for me atm.

Good point well made, but with all this new modern newfangled cloud direct blah blah stuff (yes I don’t know what I’m talking about) isn’t it time all this was just streamlined to client open and running and data just downloads? Or are we still not there yet?

I still think the future does not have launchers, that’s so 500 BC.

When can we just say “Open Eve” to the PC and it does all the things automatically damn it!

It was. You can install minimal assets and run the game, while the rest is pulled from the network as you encounter it.

Other than that, I don’t like programs that change themselves without my explicit consent.

Can I install the launcher in another location than C:/AppData yet? I recently had some issues with C:, which would have made it rather difficult to use the launcher there.

Unfortunately, no. They thought that +300 MB per profile is a good idea for local install.

How can I revert back to the old launcher?

Thank you for the new launcher. The launch groups feature and clearer display of my many characters has helped a great deal.

I have one improvement that I would like to see. I would like the launcher to remember the chosen profile per character, rather than per account.

Background: I maintain one profile (folder) per character, e.g. settings_Delta_Drenn.

Here’s a contrived example to illustrate:

Let’s say I have two characters under the account “eveuser_001”: “Character A” and “Character B”. In my world, that means I am maintaining two profiles: “Character_A” and “Character_B”.

Now, let’s say I select “Character A” in the launcher and choose the profile “Character_A” in the Account Settings tab, launch EVE for Character A, play, and then close EVE. Back in the launcher, I select “Character B”, choose the profile “Character_B” in the Account Settings tab, launch EVE for Character B, play, and then close EVE.

When I select “Character A” in the launcher after this, I would like the Account Settings tab to have “Character_A” selected as the profile. Instead, it shows “Character_B”.

Feedback: This concerns safety of ships that a character may be in, in space with the new “Quick Launch” Character Launching feature in the new Beta Launcher.

I think the “Quick Launch” Button+Click a Character portrait to launch a character is great! However one feature for player safety would be to add a toggle that goes with the launcher group setting under account settings. Each character should have a toggle that prevents the ““Quick Launch”” Button+Click method from working for that Character and that the whole account has to be launched in “Normal” mode to access that character. I have logged into expensive ships on accident using the new method of directly launching a Character. Lucky it was not a titan or super pilot expensive.

Intrepid capsuleers,

Earlier today we have released a new version (v0.4.0) of the new Beta launcher. It’s been a while since the last release, but as you can see, we packed quite a bunch of things in this one.

The changelog for v0.4.0:

  • Add: A searchable tools menu, use CTRL+F (Command+F on MacOS) to open
  • Add: Character portraits are now cached, and will display as no-portrait picture until loaded
  • Add: Character’s alliance & security status can now be seen in the character info
  • Add: Information button appears for recently updated launchers
  • Add: Support has been added for Epic Games Launcher automated login
  • Add: Support has been added for Steam automated login
  • Breaking: Removed double-click option to start up a character, users have been defaulted to the long click option
  • Change: Aura’s tooltips are now visible to users with 2 or more accounts
  • Change: Some pixels have been added, moved, or removed.
  • Other: Applied security updates to dependencies
  • Other: Localization has been added for supported languages

We’ve also started working on the build and release pipelines for platforms like Steam, and we are ready to expand the beta launcher there.

If you use steam (and this includes Linux based users), you will be able to opt-in to the beta as follows:

  1. Linux users: back up your settings. The following steps may cause steam to remove your client and settings, forcing a clean install.
  2. Uninstall the current EVE Online launcher from steam by right-clicking it in your library, and selecting Manage => Uninstall (Windows users: this does not remove EVE Online, just the launcher. Linux users: Steam cause the entire client to be removed because of proton/wine)
  3. Right-click the EVE Online in your library and select Properties
  4. Under the Betas section, fill in the following code: TheInvitation, you can now select the beta launcher version from the dropdown.
  5. Install EVE Online to receive the new beta launcher.
The accounts you had on the current EVE launcher will be migrated to the beta launcher.

If you wish to opt-out from the beta at a later stage, repeat the steps, except select None as your beta. Do keep in mind that at this point you will likely have to re-authenticate your accounts.

As always we are very keen on hearing your feedback on this new release, and if you come across any bugs, please don’t hesitate to file them from the bug reporting tool inside the launcher. You can find us in the #launcher-beta channel on the EVE Online Discord

just updated the beta launcher

The soon™ is gone, good because soon™ means never in case you’ve been out of the loop +5 points
immediate eye sour: guys, do you remember when you decide to make that stupid blinking icon when no skill was in training? do you remember how much flack you got for that? why have you not learn from that!? c’mon people! so i got 2 account’s that i haven’t loged in in forever - to the point i don’t want to even bother remembering their password, however having them in the list is useful or i forget about them, still the launcher tries to update them and gives me the eternal spinning circle of “working on it” forever - or until i decide to update their tokens or something.
Please fix that, i don’t care that much about how hard the launcher is workin’ fo’ me to get my stuff ready fo’ me, all i want is that its there when its ready and that should suffice.
thanks - 50 points! gimme back the previous version! how do i downgrade it?

I like everything, except the blue background. Previous one was cooler.

That’s looking nice… but really big.
Compact layout option?

It’s resizable

I apologize if this has been mentioned already. I did have a quick read of the comments but did not see it.

A feature I would love to see is the ability to re-order the launch groups in the drop down so that you can put frequently used groups at the top. I see this feature within the launch groups themselves for the character list which is awesome.

any solution?

In my case only rarely happens and almost always solved by closing then restarting the client. In case that doesn’t help you can try verifying the shared cache in the launcher options. Worst case a reinstall but that is to be avoided and a last desperate attempt if anything. Hopefully someone else might have some experience and a related solution.

We think that the launcher should be more inviting to log in our pilots.

The only change iwe frostpacker could request is for the launcher to show our names as we are no longer a number on the launcher.

We need to feel welcomed to want to log in.

Please make it happen!

Woah that looks really professional.

Takes the launcher to the next age and follows the NPE theme we have been seeing for awhile.

If CCP hammers out all the bugs and whatnot id be proud to use that.

Please enable the browse button if the shared cache is not found so it can be updated.
