There is no automatic way to sort this, but you can already re-order the accounts by dragging them into the right order. That should at least allow you to get your most frequently used accounts some better visibility.
Can you file a bug report (from within the launcher) about this?
Could you add a way to launch a character either through right click menu or double clicking a character or a small play button on the character portrait. Right now clicking one you need to use the launch button on the right, which is not so intuitive.
This is something we are looking into adding, yes.
First thoughts on new launcher.
- No resizing definitely the biggest annoyance.
- Please have it show Omega expiration date. That is the #1 most important thing to be able to see without launching each character.
Native ARM support for MacOS
The EVE Launcher can now run natively on M1 MacOS machines, eliminating the need for Rosetta 2 dependency.
Nice, now how about native Linux support for the people who want neither some crappy hipster OS nor the spyware that Windows has become?
Linux gaming is becoming bigger and bigger as the hurdles are falling one by one yet you have decided to drop it altogether instead of being one of the pioneers.
BR is out.
Is it possible to have some infos from the old character screen visible in the Launchers overview?
- wallet balance?
- war declarations?
- remaining omega time?
- new mails / notifications?
Done… though it’s taking a disturbingly long time to ready the ‘support payload’. 5m from click to confirmation? I don’t have any lag or slowdowns anywhere else on this machine or online.
EDIT: Also, my UI settings all seem to have vanished. Is this a normal part of moving the game files? Are UI settings not moved with everything else? Because… you know, for a dozen or so accounts, it seems like that’d be a useful thing to not have to try to manually restore, over and over again.
CCP Zelus said to keep using the old launcher if you plan on using Thunderdome in the near future.
Mine suggests installing the game into C:\EVE\SharedCache which seems wrong to me and I’m inclined to change it to C:\EVE\ because I suspect it will download the whole 30GB again otherwise. Anyone encountered this before I click Confirm here?
Edit: Change it to C:\EvE\ and it seems to be doing the correct thing. Still downloading 3.70 GB, but hopefully not the whole rest of it after that.
Also bug, default shows as C:\EVE\SharedCache, but after browsing to C:\EVE, it now displays as C:/EVE (wrong path separator character for windows). And also, also, there seems to be no way to cancel out of the installation at the install location prompt. Should have a [Cancel] button too.
Edit edit: Of course now it’s downloading the whole 30GB.
Other notes: You’ll have to recreate your Luancher Groups. New options for selecting which character and a client profile for each account. Will probably launch directly into the game, bypassing the character select screen, which is fine if you’re all Omega but not if you have daily Alpha logins to do. Ok, the Alphas will stall at the character select screen with a “needs Omega” dialog which is fine.
Doesn’t seem to select the single launcher group as the default.
Also WARNING YOU WILL LOSE ALL GAME SETTINGS, OPTIONS, OVERVIEW ETC.
Ok, the old launcher and config is still there (phwhew). WIT, NO THE CONFIG HAS BEEN COMPLETELY STOMPED ON. It put the redundant game download files in C:\EVE\ResFiles which I am about to blow away as it has blown my C: drive storage. Uninstalling the new launcher completely as the experience is horrible so far.
Aaand, going back to the old launcher with the newly stomped on config files, the game keeps stuttering and locking up. So much for EvE today.
It will do that regardless.
Mhmmm… the path to disaster, just like Photon UI …
Idk which team was responsible with the Photon UI , but it’s been more than 2 months since it went live and most of the issues reported back then have not yet been fixed !
I will give you the benefit of doubt for this new beta launcher and do you the courtesy of testing it and providing feedback, with the hope that the final product will live up to what the proper standards of a final product should be (unlike Photon UI).
Oh, yes, there it goes. Lol.
Looking at the new launcher, I like overview with the portraits of all my characters. I’m just not really sure what the benefit of this new launcher is.
My first impression is that:
- It has a lot more (unnecessary) information than the old launcher, with even more coming soon. (I prefer the more minimalistic style of the old launcher.)
- I now need to click twice to log in: select character, then press ‘Play Now’, rather than one click in the old launcher.
Sure, the launcher saves that click by allowing us to skip the character selection screen, but that means I now cannot claim log-in rewards, unless I set up a profile to not directly log in but go to the log-in screen instead, or log back out after logging in, which kind of defeats the purpose of that button if it means I now have to jump through hoops to not forget claiming log-in rewards, since everyone who’s playing will want to claim their log-in rewards at least once a day.
Next:
Is it the purpose of the new launcher to replace the character select screen?
If no, why do we now have to go through two screens of character details (launcher + character select) to enter the game?
If yes, I prefer the old situation with a minimal launcher and the character information as part of the gameplay experience after booting the game, with log-in music that has been pretty awesome throughout the years, rather than seeing this character information as part of a launcher that is trying to overload me with information not just about my characters but also about EVE news, settings and sales while I’m trying to log in.
I’m not convinced.
Can someone explain me the purpose of the new launcher?
Just a reminder that you can collect daily login rewards while logged in on the bottom right of the NEOCOM bar.
Launching the game.
So, since the institution of the daily login campaigns (ie: the login rewards stuff), there’s been a consistent criticism of CCP’s ‘Daily Active User’ metric: There’s no way to tell if it means people connecting to an account, or people actually getting into the game. How many folks were just getting to the daily login rewards, grabbing those, and never actually going past character selection to login?
If I were a cynical, suspicious person, I might think this has some intention of quieting that, by making people actually get into the game to collect those rewards.
Alternatively, I might think CCP’s DAU numbers only counted people who did get past character select, and that this is intended as a way to boost those numbers.
Either way, the purpose of the launcher is to launch the game. Anything beyond that would just be the wild speculation of cynical, suspicious people.
Is there a way to “Enter beta” via Steam? (Game properties → Beta access)
Obviously we already have a launcher.
When I said “Can someone explain me the purpose of the new launcher?” emphasis was intended on “new” and not on “launcher”.
What makes the old launcher unfit for purpose that we need a new one?
Currently it forces you to have one account “selected” with the character list expanded vertically. I do not want this. Let me have them all collapsed to get more vertical space, and also not have to look at secondary characters.
