The new EVE Online launcher Beta

I resized the launcher smaller that’s why I couldn’t see it

How can I copy and backup my profiles? I’m not even sure anymore whether they are stored in the old location, as the launcher only took over two of my 5 profiles (the two currently assigned to TQ and SiSI) from the old launcher.

The Steam version of the EVE launcher is not offering to update to the new version for Vanguard to be playable.

I think this is more than me but the new launcher seems to have a problem making use of higher internet speeds?

No problem on places like steam or anything. :man_shrugging:

Something popped up just now which has some concerns with.

There was a question box popped up with do I want some anticheat software to make changes to my system, I forced shutdown the launcher.

Never seen this before what is this?

EVE Vanguard.

Right, thanks. I’d already prepended the names of characters in the sheet I use to track them with “play:” so I can just copy then paste & hit Enter, which works fine for singleton direct-to-character launching.

While on the topic of the spotlight menu: a simple “start a client” option would be nice. Search for account name, launch that account.

Or if “Start a client for …” would also search & launch accounts, so play: <accountname> would work as expected. Whatever.

afaict there is no way to launch just one account from the launcher…

/edit: I learned of the “Launch to character select by default” tick box in Settings → Game Client. Problem solved! You might want to add the word “screen” in there to disambiguate that option a bit…

Also, wrt the launcher more broadly: the ability to sort accounts alphabetically would be nice, and the ability to shift-select multiple accounts & drag them around as a group.

Too many accounts crew, checking in…

Give the option to hide the Vanguard option from each account, it just makes the expanded area even larger. Its big enough already and yet gives no useful information.

So now launcher instals 2 separate software products- Eve Online and Vanguard, while latter one frankly speaking is a concept demo of product still in development. This actually raises a very interesting question:

-Why launcher does not provide ability to uninstall optional ‘modules’ without performing unholy rituals?

If user attempts to remove Vanguard now, he would be routed to Windows Settings/Apps, and what he is going to see there? ‘Eve Online- 2.8.2’ and ‘Eve-online 1.02’, but not a Vanguard. How it is possible that something gets installed without any clear way to uninstall it, and this something is not an OS update!? Basically you created a situation, where user has great opportunity to screw up not only Eve installation, but also a lot other stuff including OS itself. Why? Because people are over-reacting and quite frequently over-confident, and have habit of trying to ‘fix’ such problems by rather disastrous means.

If Eve Online is growing and would consist of several optional ‘modules’, please provide means to uninstall these modules independently.

P.S.

Only option to uninstall Vanguard at this point is to uninstall new launcher. And we are talking here about software, which is supposed to be modular. Currently users can revert back to old launcher, which is, TBH, more convenient to use and better designed than this new beta thing. Unfortunately, when new launcher would be officially released, this ability is going to be lost. Is it that hard to think a bit in advance?

Bottom line: your new launcher is made to please marketing department first, but lacks very basic mandatory functionality.

Why is there no launch button of each account like the play button on the old launcher? I have to click an account, then click another button to launch an account?

It makes it twice as many clicks per account to reopen after discos or crashes, which while I wouldn’t call them common are part of this game on a weekly basis at least.

It also really needs to have an option to never expand accounts and to remove the vanguard faces.

Some bright spark (who has clearly never played the game) decided to:

Remove the play button from the side of each account (doubling the number of clicks required to start to the character selection screen)

Make it impossible to collapse all accounts to a single line

Remove the locations of each character unless on the character selection screen

Remove the double-click option to start the client with a particular character

Make it impossible to remove the Vanguard icon for those that do not want to install it

I haven’t poked the new launcher much to see what’s good or bad. I mentioned in an earlier post that the “Quit Game” was a godawful huge full-screen blocking waste of space, and it appears CCP has made some steps in improving that situation.

My recent concern is with memory usage. I click 10 accounts to launch them all at once, and it would take a minute or two to set them all up. Now if I click 10 accounts, the process is much longer (4+ minutes) because apparently my current version of launcher uses ALL the available memory and starts paging. It also basically grinds all other activity on the PC to a halt. I have approximately 11 Gigs of memory available when I start clicking the account icons.

I may not be using the latest/greatest version of the launcher since for me, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is the rule. Launcher Version 2410154, UI Version 6.6.16, QT 5.15.2.

Edit: tested it again today, it appears my version of the launcher uses about 1.8-.19 Gb of memory per instance of EVE launched. That’s just sitting at the character select screen. For some reason, once it runs out of memory and starts paging, it then trims various instances of the game back to about 0.5 Gb memory. There doesn’t appear to be any difference between a character login screen sitting at 1.9Gb usage or 0.5 Gb usage.

So why use almost 2 gigs of memory for some character screens and 0.5 gig for others?

Now that you’ve forced yet another inferior upgrade on us, can you at least add the ability to claim daily and event rewards directly through the launcher instead of having to start up each account individually? There’s literally no reason to waste our time this way, because even if you need login metrics for your boardroom grabassing over “player engagement,” you can count reward claims as logins for this purpose.

Launcher does not update information when changing corp or alliance. The old ones is still showed. I did wait 24 hours because I thought it needs a while before it updates, but nope

Because of automatic login to specific characters, the daily login window don’t show automaticaly even if the toggle Show on Login is checked. Fixed this please, After 3 day of using the new launcher, I’ve already missed a day (not worriying about the regular daily, it is more for the Winter Nexus one). The idea of having it popup by default is to not have to actively think/stress about it.

You can turn off directly logging into characters in the launcher settings.

Can you point me where? It is either not working or not intuitive enough for me to find it.
This setting bellow still logs me directly into the character instead of opening on the character slection screen.

Clearly need a clearer/better way.

Edit: Ok… my non-English fluent self thought NO would mean don’t log automatically. Apparently I need to select YES to get the character selection screen.

I still think there should be a way for the Login reward screen to popup automatically for those who wish to login in a character directly. Besides Vanguard, the automatic character selection is probably the other main reason for for this new launcher.
