The odd T3 Tactical Destroyer Svipul and Solo'ing

Hello folks,

last time I came here to ask about the Firetail (pre-buff) since it was weak against other same class ships, especially against the Comet and Hookbill. I learned a lot about that ship thanks to you folks.

Now I run into a similar problem, where other same class ships like the Hecate seem easier to fit and have seemingly an easier fight against & unlike the… Svipul.

It’s either me overthinking it too much or it’s really an odd ship. You can fit it with 2 MASBs, dual prop etc. but I find it hard to find something that will really suit me for solo hunting in WH’s with confidence as Hecates do… maybe while actually trying to engage Hecates without solving math equations.

Yet again, I’m asking the pro’s of New Eden for advice. I have some fits but… I don’t know guys…

I’m confused. Don’t mind the ammo etc. … I just went for it to have some sort of foundation to understand what this ship wants (and what it doesn’t want).

My Svipul experience has been mostly for instalocking in gate camps and explorer hunting in lowsec. I tried using it in lowsec a year or two or three back and it just doesn’t feel great. I think I used something similar to the autocannon + Nosferatu fit you list.

When later living in a wormhole I haven’t really ever bumped into a Hecate except the ones who are based out of Jita and then cling to the hole for dear life for an easy out. Lack of covert ops cloak feels like a T3D is just shouting „free kill“ or „fast tackle and combat prober for gang“ whenever encountered in JSpace.

I switched to Hecate years ago, when the Svipul lost insta-warp. After that I was able to beat a couple Svipuls at 0 with my Hecate (after Void-buff), but lost to better pilots and AC fits.

I was flying AC buffer fits back then with either one or two neuts. I could engage every Cruiser, but this was true for the Hecate too, until the partial reversal of resists-nerf, and the whole meta changed to brawl.

Long story short , I haven’t flown the Svipul in years as PvP ship, so I really have no advice on whether it is still viable (if you don’t rely on insta-warp). What I know is I don’t see it a lot in the wild. But Hecates are not as popular anymore as well, because they mostly lost their punch-up capabilties.

So, the Svipul is yet another Minmatar not suited for solo bc it got stripped of what made it a capable solo ship? That’s why almost nobody talks about this ship as if it’s completely outdated/nerfed into nonexistence.

I think it’s not that absolute, I mean you still can survive traveling without insta-warp, just not casually. With the new “heat under gate cloak” the survivability on gate crash was increased recently. The Arty-platform is valid, though you can also use a Thrasher fleet.

I would propose to check zKill and check the Svipul pilots’ profiles. In general, Pochven has a bunch of good solo pilots, check out the top killer’s KB (Pochven | Region | zKillboard). Mefc Ipret shows examples of good solo ships/fits, and he knows how to (scram)kite and brawl.

Personally I’m too lazy (and maybe to old sigh ) to experiment nowadays, and live with what I can grab with the Eris or Hecate. Pochven is also a good place to casually socialize IMO among PvP for fun afine players.

EDIT: Forget to add, that with all in EvE solo PvP also means to find your personal solo style. There are a lot of options how you can approach it, kite, brawl, surprise fit (Viator | Serg Sinist | Killmail | zKillboard) , ambush, cloaky, with alts, FW plexes, officer fit, AT ships, gatecamp, combat probes, suspect bait …
