The Rise and Fall in Bitcoin Value

How much of that power comes from dirty coal that destroys the environment?

Not a lot, 80% of the electricity in France is made from nuclear power.

Great, so you depend of energy that produces waste the next 100 generations will have to deal with and pay for.

Also not all electric cars run on 80% “clean” energy. How about you stop driving until ALL of them do? Only fair, since you demand every Bitcoin miner shuts down until all of them use clean energy

Nobody NEEDS bitcoin.
If tomorrow Bitcoin would stop there would be zero difference. Well, except for the people who got scammed.

At least it slowly decays unlike carbon. And we can use the waste of nuclear missiles to power it too.

Anyways, we should get the discussion back on topic before we get reported!

See, and now we reviled the kernel of the whole issue. You don’t give a ■■■■ about the climate as long as it would inconvenience yourself. Hauling you sole ass around has value for you so you don’t care that it pollutes the environment, no matter if that has any value for the rest of society.

Yet when it comes to things OTHERS do, things you don’t care about, you are suddenly concerned. They should stop, because it has no direct value for you and them stopping is no inconvenience to you, so why not start there instead of reducing your over the top luxury lifestyle.

Bitcoin brings nondiscriminatory equal access to a monetary network to everyone on the planet that has internet and a smartphone (which are a lot of people that don’t even are banked otherwise). And it removes the power over money which by the way is constantly abused to finance wars out of the few that hold it and gives it back to the people

THAT is far more valuable than hauling your own ass around. But I bet you don’t see it that way, because its inconvenient.

If you want to actually learn about what value Bitcoin has for society go watch this: Alex Gladstein: Bitcoin, Authoritarianism, and Human Rights | Lex Fridman Podcast #231 - YouTube

This isn’t a Bitcoin propaganda video. They will not talk about number go up or the price, but about what it is for and what the value is for society.

Maybe if future human generations will live hundreds of meters underground in remote areas without any way of escaping outside the rooms containing that waste, then yes, they will have to deal with it, not really pay tho.

Apparently a lot of people need it if they’re investing so heavily into it

These threads really are exceptional. Is there a place somewhere on the internet specifically dedicated to word battles between crypto true believers and the people who think it is all a scam?

I would assume several reddit subs exist for such. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Yeah there is /r/Bitcoin, where you get banned if you say anything negative about Bitcoin or something positive about shitcoins. So discussion can’t happen.

Then there is /r/Buttcoin, where you get banned if you say something positive about Bitcoin or some shitcoin.

Then there is /r/CryptoCurrency, where you get called a boomer if you mention Bitcoin, and if it hasn’t at least 1000% APY staking, an NFT platform and is dog themed what are you even doing.

Nuclear has ZERO impact on environment.

another hypocritical fail !

It is actually good for the environment, right? Look at Chernobyl.

Actually yes, it’s much better for the environment than petrol based.

Looking at Chernobyl says nothing about the impact on environment.

What do you think “environment” means?

do you think ?

You mean the wolves that were almost exterminated that are back now? The nature and specially wildlife in the Chernobyl park would argue against your “environment” definition. But yes, it’s a bad environment for the humans there. Scientifically there is no consesus yet, but there isn’t enough data either. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0265931X17309347

If you are interested, here is an amazing statistic. If you are a human, windmills are fine for you, just don’t be a bird though…

A lot of people invest in Nigerian Princes’ inheritance fortune (and similar scams), but that doesn’t mean we need them. Neither that they are a good investment.

It’s because we have the most amazing community. None of this would be possible in the ‘normal’ forums.

Yes, the debate gets heated due to both sides slinging poo on occasion but it remains -in general- a readable evaluation of the good, the bad and the ugly of Bitcoin and related products.

Way to be that way. You mean we don’t need money, right? Because without money there would be no scams. That’s how opponents of NFTs sound like when they point to scams as a reason for shutting it down.
