Thats strange, Rockstar banned access to gambling in some countries, and the rules are the same essentially.

Rockstar have better lawyers than CCP? Or maybe management isnt as desperate. Hard to tell what is it.

Oh wait, I think I know what is the difference, its that CCP sells PLEX instead of ISK. And players buy ISK exchanging PLEX. So the additional step is maybe their way to avoiding the bans.

You might need to follow an โ€œarmchair lawyer courseโ€ first, but Iโ€™ll link it anyways.

It clearly falls in the description under Article 2. It is a game of chance defined as raffle.
Now what is interesting is that every banned online gambling site stated that NO MINORS could play (unless they stole their parentโ€™s credit cards) I would say, get the guinnes record guys there to record that case as iโ€™m sure it will be used in many universities as an example of practically achieving every aggravating circumstance in the book.

Thatโ€™s because gambling is gambling even if the prize is a service. This is becoming more important as the industry tries to sell videogames as a service and countries adapt the definition of gambling accordingly.

If it requires an investment and triggers the reward sense of โ€œI wonโ€ by result of randomness, thatโ€™s gambling.

Ah, you edited your post. Selling the PLEX instead of the ingame token itself makes no difference if the definiton of gambling is comprehensive enough. The fact that PLEX can be used for other things means nothing, same as euros can be used for thigns other than buying lottery tickets.

I have feeling that we will see some actual legal action and EVE playerbase will have to shrink, or the feature dropped. I am not able to sift thru all the regulations like Rockstar lawyers could.

Seeing how the GTA casino is banned (apparently) in Iceland, I wouldnโ€™t be too shocked if CCP just accidentaled the law from their own countryโ€ฆ

I mean, โ€œskillful designโ€ isnโ€™t something that anyone ever associated to CCPโ€ฆ

Cool, I canโ€™t read, but a rough Google translate suggests that the language may potentially cover it.

Thatโ€™s not really an interesting thing, thatโ€™s just a commonly used โ€œwarningโ€ that people think actually does anything.

Thatโ€™s what Epstein said too.

Anyways, the only result of that is that the CCP IP range will become blocked in Belgium after a verdict, and Iโ€™ll be forced to use a VPN.

Maybe even blocked in Iceland. That would be funny. :joy:

I am personally unlikely to participate.

That is what is great about this game. If I choose not to participate in parts of it, I donโ€™t. Others may like it so enjoy. There are plenty of other things I can enjoy.

I used to raffle carriers and dreads with zero markup. I only included the cost of Chribbaโ€™s fee. I wanted other people to have access to more expensive ships. Ten Million ISK and a โ€œroll of the diceโ€ made at least one person happy. *Chribba had a great random dice tool but I canโ€™t remember the name of it.

Wonโ€™t sell anything with it, wonโ€™t buy anything with it. Couldnโ€™t care less if itโ€™s in the game. Seems like a waste of dev time to me (or at least, an inefficient use), but canโ€™t really say good or bad until we see how many people make use of it.

If it brings them some sales and doesnโ€™t cause too much trouble, then good. If it causes a lot of kerfuffle and sells a pittance of extra Plex for a handful of raffled items (which I expect), then it was time better spent doing something actually useful for the game.

The cost of the HyperCores will determine how widely itโ€™s used. I havenโ€™t heard a number yet.

It is online gambling poorly dressed as a marketing tool. It is morally reprehensible at best and at worst it is against the law in most countries it is played in. As well as still being morally wrong.

I am firmly against this.

I am also wondering where the tick-box for casting my actual โ€˜voteโ€™ isโ€ฆ

I guess they removed that feature from the forums. As far as legality goesโ€ฆyou canโ€™t โ€œprofitโ€ outside of the game so I donโ€™t think law enforcement will give two :poop:โ€™s.

Why? I think it like so much is just a part of our eve ecosystem, if morally entered into the game play then scams, ganks, player piracy shouldnโ€™t be a thing, I find on a strictly personal level those activities reprehensible and definitely morally objectionable, but it is part of the eve ecosystem and my objections alone shouldnโ€™t be the final word on those activities, Iโ€™m for it and donโ€™t want otherโ€™s standing in my way.
