I bet their really really really tired after a looonggg week of âMonitoring the situationâ, and âAccessing all possible situationsâ, so they took the weekend off. You know. Tired and all.
They could simply use packet sniffers to trace legitimate connections couldnât they? I mean Iâm no techno geek. Yes it would take time unless they used an automated program that does it automatically. Also considering this is a focused attack that is affecting their business therefore their lively-hood/profit wouldnât that be considered a criminal act therefore subject to police investigative manpower? They are the ones with the resources and access to effectively sniff this basta out? but what do i know lol Iâm just guessing here.

Well in may case its someone who just will wait till later. If I find something more interesting before then so be it. I might come back or not. I might not go anywhere. But I will not continue to pay for the thing. I donât mind supporting a thing that works, however I think it will be revealed that something more than some DDOS attack is in play here.

I agree with what your saying except this part lol.
Unpredictable maybe, It has happened in the past its best to expect it in the future. I personally believe that this is not uncontrollable it is in CCPs full control to decide how their network is accessed. There are so many tools out there now days to detect incoming DDOS attacks and help prevent them form having a wide effect on the server population. CCP needs to put more investment into their network security.
Is it really necessary to speak like that with such negativity and vehemence? Sometimes itâs more important to be kind to the impetus than right. Just saying.

Thatâs the thing about it. All the wizards out there that leave CCP out of the equation are not also saying that DDOS and a myriad of other attacks that occur daily are nothing new. Any high value target can expect it. Even if some bot farmer or disgruntled employee et all is not the point. The point is, so many businesses have it happen to them daily, and they manage the thing. It does not take more than a week for them to get the problem in hand. Its not new. It happens.

great sounding idea, but hereâs the problem: there are many, many computers involved, using many, many IP addresses in many, many countries which have many and varied laws regarding network security and varying degrees of police manpower and willingness to carry out even the most basic investigations. You would have to capture every ping (thousands every second) and pick it apart to get the IP information from the header, trace that back to net blocks then go to each service provider with a warrant for each IP to find out which cabinet that IP is routed to.
When itâs a 1-to-1 crack, itâs fairly simple, but that kind of thing was left behind in the 1980s when commercial internet ran on phone lines you had to dial in. Now botnets are used for everything from DDOS to bruteforce cracking attempts (breaking passwords) and SETI@Home (one of many LEGAL botnets).
Iâve been playing Eve off and on since 2006. This idea that itâs only new players that are going to leave over this is bunk.
The fact of the matter is my first Omega sub ends tomorrow. I have 2 more coming the week after. All of which I will manually need to continue.
1/4 of last monthâs subscription was effectively lost. A week of skill training doesnât mean that much to me at this point. Not as much as play time.
As we go into this weekend, a day before my first re-sub of the month, I have to weigh my options: do I resub despite the possibility that I wonât be able to play? Or do I hold my sub until this all blows over? Which runs the risk that something else will grab my interest and I just wonât return, as has happened more than a couple times over the last 13+ years.
And the fact is, thatâs lost income to CCP. Whether I come back or not, just delaying my subscription is lost income. It would be foolish to believe I am the only person in this situation.
Itâs not because I am mad at CCP. It is a simple matter of, âdo I want to pay a subscription to a service that I cannot currently access?â Itâs basic maths.
So we can all be angry that people are angry, we can all complain that people are complaining, we can pretend that 6 years in eve makes us big tough vets that arenât going to bail on Eve because some asshats are DDOSing the servers, we can pretend that there is some honor or some such in ânot letting the DDOSers win,â but that doesnât change the reality that the DDOSers are already winning, CCP is already feeling it in the wallet, and with these new issues will likely feel that harder.
No amount of chest pounding or counter-whining is going to change that reality.

I once was in this alliance, and it was failscading at high speed. I went around telling everyone we should probably bail while it was still time to do so, and they kept saying âitâs fine, our leaders will figure it out somehowâ. Then one morning, the leaders had gone, they had taken pretty much everything with them, and we were surrounded by hordes of pod-thirsty PvP farmers. We all died miserably whilst trying to scramble an evac fleet for our blings. I re-subbed all my accounts the next day. Please donât ask me why, I truly donât know why. Iâll probably do that again.

all players should be given one months play time for free for these issues going on 2 weeks now and most people run more then one account so show us you really care and make this right as a bizz owner we accept the responsibly for our companies and as a paying player of your company I would expect you guys to make it right not just for me but the total player base if I see this from you I will be fine with things if not people should read the small print and mabe talk to people higher up as a way to recover our costs we give you real money every month spends thousands on plex this is the least you guys can do so do the right thing thanks
I have been able to login on 8 or so different characters with no issues but the last one that I loged in has not chat/local.
