And in most games those player made things are made useless by end game drops, but speakign of with, eve has no end game PvE content. Even the hardest content can be done without much issue. Add to that infinity resources and zero risk of PvP and the game would utterly fall apart.
No reason to mine if all the materials are worth nearly nothing.
No reason to PvE if they isk you’re making per hour means relatively nothing and the drops you are getting are a dime a dozen.
No reason to PvP if the only people that will except have a bigger group waiting in the wings.
To note: That is what is arguably happening in Eve since Roqual were introed. Massive amounts of resources being sucked it to fuel super and titan development. There is no driver to leave your established territory so alliances hunker down and just keep building. Surplus everywhere diminishes returns on anyone not farming at the top teirs.
The idea is cool, but its lame and limited. why did you just give something to the pvp’ers? How the F* are you going to get people to undock unless they want to fight. Where is the incentive for the PVE and Miners? What you got all hot and bothered by the thought of so many ships exploding in space that after you didnt have the presence of mind to realize everyones subscription spends the same.
Its a community, a sandbox that everyone plays in where are the rewards / risks for everyone else. I mean you couldn’t have a PVE player warp into a site thinking it would be Angels and is met by the Triglavins or Drifters? How is that for Trick. Or miners met by a concrete wall they have to mine through? or site they have to destroy in order to get to the mining belt.
Your thinking so limited and focused on PVP that its bad for the game. I realize its a PVP centric game I also realize that most PVPers are 2-4 accounts where Miners are 1-25 accounts, you need a minute to do the math? If you are going to bring new content, bring it for all. Oh and if this is a PVP game how come I cant use mining lasers to cut through a ship or tractor beam to pull small ships toward me?
You fail to acknowledge that all(?) the other events for every other holiday so far for YEARS have been PVE related. They throw a bone one time to PVPers and entitled people like you whine and moan. I think there should be more PVP events in a PVP game in addition or instead of the usual PVE stuff.
good job to CCP on another fail for not thinking players would just load up on expensive cargo to pad their killboards rather than go and find other players
With regards to the 100% drop, my advice would have been, carry about 50% less value of what you would normally; that way the gankers don’t benefit from the event but the real PvPers still would.
This event or part of the event is imo aimed more for the benefit of gankers. Really was a strange move by CCP.
Actually, it’s the thinking of those whining about non-consensual PvP all the time that’s incredibly limited.
Maybe if there wasn’t so much clueless whining on the forums and elsewhere, there would be no need for CCP to send a signal that non-consensual PvP in general, and suicide ganking in particular, is part of the game by design, that there is nothing wrong with that, and that it’s here to stay…
Speaking of ‘Trick Or Treat’, this event actually inspired me to create a totally different portrait for my character to celebrate Eve’s Halloween Horrors:
"Existence, as you know it, is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile."
I can see both sides. A “ganker” is akin to a pirate. They look for juicy targets that are low risk and high reward. A hauler can take reasonable steps to survive said ganker if appropriately tanked for survival rather than max profits. (Of course there will be times when it’s overwhelming odds againt the hauler. C’est la vie.)
The flip side is ganking newbros just for the lulz and kb stats. That’s like taking a pipe and beating in the heads of homeless people.
You say this as if you thought we had never heard it before, when in fact it’s those of you complaining about suicide ganking all the time who simply refuse to understand what it’s all about.
Suicide ganking becomes a one sided activity only as a result of the victims themselves making it so by flying their ships through high sec as if it was safe, often AFK even, completely ignoring it is not, nor is it supposed to be.
There is nothing special about suicide ganking other than the fact that the attackers are guaranteed to lose their ships after a few seconds. That’s the only thing that makes high sec safer than low sec, but in no way safe. If players understood this and flew their ships accordingly, then suicide ganking, like all other forms of PvP, would be two-sided and engaging for both parties.
The interaction between both parties starts before the ganking actually takes place, by taking the risk of being ganked into consideration and flying accordingly. It’s pretending you should be able to safely do whatever you want in high sec what makes suicide ganking a problem for those that are unable/unwilling to understand what the game is about and learn to play it properly.
Combat isn’t the only form of PvP in Eve, nor is it the only activity in Eve that can be either consensual or non consensual PvP.
With PvE either solo or in groups the soloist or the groups are actively doing whatever they are doing (bots not included, don’t like bots).
Part of PvE in Eve is acknowledging that you’re doing it in an environment where others can interfere in a multitude of ways.
With ganking however, only the ganker is active as the other is just really basically a target. There is no real two way interaction.
I’m what gankers would consider to be a target, and I’ve chosen to be actively involved in avoiding their attentions; others choose not to be and are thus easy targets as opposed to challenging ones. Gankers tend to pick the easy targets which benefits me immensely, in more ways than one.
Eve is a game where the term cut throat applies, literally.
I don’t see how ganking can be good for any game.
It creates demand on the market, drama on the forums and occasionally mainstream press headlines and coverage that other devs would give their limbs for.
Fun fact only been ganked 3 times all a long time ago, once in a starter system in a starter ship, he did actually just about destroy the ship before concord got him. Twice in a mining vessels and both ganks failed. Not that I’ve mined for many years.
What the owners of this game really need to decide is, do they want it as a PvP only game or do they want to accommodate PvE players.
If PvP the best thing they could do get rid of high and low sec and make them 0.0 because trying to cater for both on the same playing field doesn’t work that well.
