Back during the Liminality event, we got to see NPCs flying around in triglavian industrials, and they looked amazing. Sleek, divided into three sections, and with the singularity power core nicely displayed at the back in the centre of a ring.
I want to fly one. During the event we saw three sizes, of which the model viewer I posted only has the largest. I propose adding the mid-size version as a tech 1 hauler, with the short one as a BR and the long one as a DST. They wouldn’t need to fill any specific niche, I feel, I just think they would add some nice variety and flesh out the Triglavian ship line, the way EDENCOM recently got the Upwell hauler and freighter. If you do have ideas for special bonuses they could have, maybe ramping ones to keep with the triglavian theme, feel free to post them in the thread.
Because it would make me happy. You want to make me happy, don’t you?
And no, we did have ships with infrastructure holds before, namely the Primae and the Epithal. The Avalanche and the Squall are just much better at it (and in the case of the Primae specifically not even a tenth as ugly).
If these ships don’t bring a new role and niche to the game it’s better to spend that effort on other new ships that do, and wait with Triglavian haulers until someone comes along with an idea for Triglavian haulers that does fill a specific niche.
Upwell haulers filled a new niche and Triglavian combat ships filled a new niche.
I would not expect anything less from a Triglavian hauler, it would be a waste of a unique Triglavian hull to simply make it behave like a generic T1 or T2 hauler.
So instead of asking for this hauler, maybe speculate what new feature this hauler could bring to EVE?
The Triglavisn signature spooling mechanisms make sense for logi or dps ships, but it is hard to think of a useful spooling application for hauling.
Maybe spooling self-repairs or resistances, making it a tough target to break with sustained pressure?
How about slowly increasing warp speed the longer it’s undocked? Spooling defenses just makes me feel like I need to AFK on the undock for a while to maximize defense before I do anything. Increasing the warp speed would benefit it as a “long haul” hauler but probably doesn’t make it optimal to idle before setting out.
Good point about spooling defences, those are out.
I don’t see how ‘increasing warp speed’ works either, because as you mention it too would encourage people to just go AFK. Nothing stops a person from going AFK for a while until an alt gives them the cargo to do a speed run with maxed out warp speed.
Not the kind of gameplay the game should encourage, in my opinion.
I think the main issue is that neither defences nor warp speed are an active module with a target like the regular Triglavian spooling items, so this design doesn’t really work for a hauler. I’ve seen an awful idea before of ‘spooling cargo space’ that runs into similar design issues.
I can conclude that I still haven’t seen any good idea for Triglavian haulers and that we should wait until we see one before wasting this hull on a generic and bland hauler.
That would be only useful if you don’t do any traveling with the ship, as any “spooling module” would be re-set after every jump. So for a “hauler” pretty useless to pre-spool at the undock spot.
A spooling local repper actually could make sense for hard-tanked DSTs in JSpace, because sometimes you get tackled 1-2 jumps from your home system and actually could get reinforcements if you’d just survive long enough. And the gang-fights there are usually starting small, so a local tank module actually could bring you quite some time, even more so if it’s power is spooling up.
If they have to spool (I still hold that just because they’re Trig they don’t have to spool somehow), I guess the obvious answer would be to make them mining barges. A big ramping bonus to yield but also to residue, making them obvious ”pirate barges” which can be very profitable for their operators in space they don’t own, but something you’d want to keep out of space you do own.
