UI woes

If I had one wish - just one - that I could get fulfilled for EVE, it would be this:

A shaded area behind the console.

I am so very tired of moving the camera non-stop to find a background area of space that actually lets me see those light pastel colors used for status indicators and mod cycling. I suspect I’m not alone in this frustration. Alternately, we could be given a good range of alternate color options for those elements.

Some other notable UI annoyances that degrade the QoL:

  • Lack of labels for the new Ship Info screen tabs: requiring a mouseover is lazy and newb-unfriendly design. We also need the arrow from the Opportunities sidebar that makes the menu always visible and distinct. The same issue with uselessly abstract icons is also present on the Neocom.

  • I’d like to see the ship renders in a separate window attached to the Ship Info window instead of making the text harder to read. While I feel that the Ship Info overhaul was totally unnecessary, it should at least be made more tolerable.

  • Inability to enlarge the Console: it would be a godsend if we could increase the console size by 25%. Many of us have monitors well above 1080p now and those little circles are harder to see.

  • Generic search everywhere: I really, really wish the Locations search would actually search within locations instead of everywhere else. Same for Contacts. What good is even having a search dialog in these windows if you can’t actually SEARCH their content?

  • Tooltips: all they do is get in the way 90% of the time. If we could control now long they persist on-screen after appearing, that would be tremendously helpful. Even better, give us the option of a fixed window for them like nearly every other MMO.

  • The event versions of overview icons make it hard to tell if wrecks are actually locked or not.

  • The corporate role management screen under Administration looks like it was designed by a madman. I cannot stress enough how insanely terrible it is.

I hope that some consideration is given to these blatant shortcomings in the interface and gets brought up with the developers. If anyone has some additional suggestions feel free to add them in the same format as I’ve established.
