Unfair Loss in Highsec – Overpowered Drifters at NPC Station (Stoure 0.7)

No, the sleepers do not.

Just dock or take the gate.

No, it’s death if you failed to recognize the threat after several wrong actions.

Your ignorance of the subject is really telling.

I did, you ignored it.

A new player is not in any trouble from these things, only reckless pilots who have ignored all the warning signs.

The Drifters do. And a Newbro or Casual won’t be aligned or at 0 at the gate when it happens, because he doesn’t know what will happen. But again, good try.

It is no wrong action to shoot a red NPC cruiser on a HS gate after having collected reasonable experience with ship fittings and NPC cruisers. Attacking them should not lead to unreasonable strong reinforcements that a casual player can’t beat, due to lack of knowledge and lack of specialized fitting.

There were no warning signs. The Lancers had no indication that they would spawn reinforcements at a power level of deep wormhole space combat sites.

But please, go on. I still miss the part where you explain why the current design is good and benefitial and helps to attract and keep players in the game. And why slight changes to prevent such situations would be bad for the game. Please, go on.

What slight change? Removing them is not a slight change. Clearly the warning signs already in place are not enough.

“THREAT LEVEL CRITICAL”

This is several steps in.

They will be either at the station or within 10km of the gate…

A player will see one of these after having forced to die to battleships in the tutorial and after Aura says space is dangerous. and will not have had time to even train destroyers much less cruisers.

If you are going to continue to be dishonest, then you are not worth responding to. I think new players happening on this thread will see what you seem to think of them and react accordingly.

I didn’t say removing them from the game. I said multiple times in this topic alone that I have no problem with the content, just the the way it is implemented. I also repeatedly said that those who would like to specialize in hunting and destroying them should do so and more power to them.

I get the feeling you have no single argument why the current situation is a good one and a change to prevent newbros and casuals running randomly into for them unbeatable NPCs in HS would be bad. Well, no wonder, because there are none.

Thanks for the conversation. I’ll take it that you simply don’t like EVE to be successful and having it easier to keep players and allowing them to learn gradually and inside the game, but would rather keep the current situation where you are being told as a newbro to completely ignore that content and/or tab out to wiki/youtube before you keep playing. Well, isn’t my approach. I like good games that encourage the players to find out on their own and still give them room to deal with a scenario. Which is the opposite of NPCs with doomsday weapons.

Followed the thread a bit.

Seen some comments on Lore, is it narratively correct that a Drifter fleet is just hanging outside of say a Gallente high sec station?

Over all, NPC’s shouldn’t be ganking people outside of stations or gates.

Warping in and messing with your PVE activity / PVP to create emerging content and story - sure.

Haha, can you imagine Syzygium’s reaction if that was the case? No it’s fine as is, even if it is a bit lore breaking.

You can run into these things anywhere someone has shot on Autothysian Lancers and triggered their reinforcement wave. Usually in Systems where Jove Observatories are present.

They have absolutely nothing to do with any lore-wise messing up your PvE experiences, because unless they are triggered by someone shooting these lancers, they will never show up in your missions or in anomalies or whatnot. They are just a remainder of an event that was somewhat abandoned for years. And now nobody has any interest to actually fix that crap any more. It even took years to fix that Trig/Edencom nonsense that they attacked neutral players in HS…

Only

They will never show up in these places even if someone else shoot them.

They are part of an on going story that has lasted for 10 years and are farmed by people who want drugs without leaving high sec.

Not meaning to respond to you Syzygium, just correcting incorrect information.

I raised Lore in response to -

"That’s what happened. Curiosity cost you a Shiny Ship.. :+1:

Other players run automatically if they encountered the Drifters. Knowing about Lore’s are important."

I’m not against Drifters being active, just if it makes sense and contributes to a “living universe.”
Of course it should be rarer than common. But principally, non-scripted situations isn’t a bad thing. So long as the only answer isn’t being podded. It’s true in life as it is in space opera EVE, that some times we have to run, evade, come back later and all of that. The game shouldn’t be reduced to isk per hour, dynamic PVE ruining my farm. IMO.

Oh, I agree. Thats why I advocate for a change, not a removal. As you can see in this topic, someone (and he isn’t the only one) lost a pretty expensive ship after a behaviour that is totally expected of a random casual HS player. A ship that shouldn’t be killed by HS NPCs in a oneshot Simple as that.

Yeah, I agree there. The ship shouldn’t have been floating about a high-sec station waiting for players. Over tuned and poor NPC AI behaviour.

I see EVE as an alternate universe to explore. And not unlike space exploration, you go into the unknown, not having the route laid out for you, but having to find out what’s on the route when you go there. To me, this is much more satisfying than reading a manual and getting all the details in advance. And it adds excitement.

Yeah, some people don’t like it, they want to know what’s up ahead before they go there. It’s two types of approaches and they’re mutually exclusive, so the two sides are never gonna agree with each other.

Sometimes you go into the unknown land and there are brigands on the way. Sometimes you find a treasure. Sometimes you chance upon a creature you’ve never seen, and yeah, it might bite you. Or not. But the fun is finding it out. To me, that’s enough of a reason to keeping the Drifters, and EDENCOM, and Trigs in HS. Is it not fun to explore new things when you see them?

Why is it bad that players have to be careful in ALL areas of space? That they can die in numerous and various unscheduled and unplanned encounters rather than farm 24/7 in space unmolested even in high sec space? Why is it bad that you can do everything right and still die?

Because that is eve and is shown in the tutorial as well to all players, yes even casuals. In Eve nothing is safe or secure. CCP has shown that time and time again. Whether you believe its bad game design and a hill you wish to die on go for it. But were obviously not playing the same game then…

Eve rewards caution, knowledge, understanding and THEN ruthlessness. Everything that embodies these NPCs and the new AI CCP has given to become the destruction that players in the game arent doing enough of to encourage destruction and mayhem in all areas of space.

Yahh. They should all go to Nullsec and wage war there.:slightly_smiling_face:.. but wait…

They can stay. It’s a matter how the encounter goes. I personally believe they shouldn’t be in HS, the game is large enough to offer all that exploration outside of HS. Tbh, HS, in my opinion, should be a starting area where people learn the basics and can allways fall back to to make some cash with simple activtities which don’t require that much knowledge and investment. To then go back onto the great exploration and adventure next door.
And then there is the big universe to explore - outside of HS. With all the shiny rewards, mysterious sites, content they have never seen before and so on.

We can even agree that these things can stay in HS but in locations you don’t run into if you don’t actively explore. So: Not on Stargates. Not on Stations. They shouldn’t be thrown on travellers, making them curious and then instablapping them with OP-reinforcements if the player dares to engage them.
Let them have their specialized sites, landmarks, whatever. Messages can be displayed when someone tries to warp there, warning him that the content he is about to find will require specialized knowledge and equipment. The sites can be designed in a way that they challenge, but not overwhelm in seconds. It’s a matter of balance.

Depends on the encounter. If you try to engage something you have enver seen before and get doomsdayed into the pod even while flying a reasonably well fitted ship, I’d say its not so much fun. And especially if the usual response you get when asking is "You should have googled first!

For me it comes down to pacing.

In a story, there is the departure. The journey. The action. Then the wind down.

What would LOTR be if they was blapped as soon as they left the front door in the shire?

They want the Gankers, Edencom, Trigs Campers, Diamond Rats, and Drifters Gone in HS. :man_shrugging::woman_shrugging::man_health_worker::man_facepalming::woman_facepalming::person_facepalming:.. Play at Eve Echoes if want this kind of Mechanics.

They don’t instablap, you have to target and shoot down the overshield first.

These are called starter systems and are the only “safe” space.

Where else can you engage them without players also attacking you? Guess we should remove Level 4 missions from high sec too, not allow abyssals to be spawned in hi sec, and no Sansha Incursions either. Also so much for not wanting them removed, rolls eyes.

Kind of feels like you’ve not really read anything and just pushing your own spin.

It’s not about not having them there. It’s about them being meaningful engagements.

I already encountered a lot of this kinds of rants. The cycle continues.
Just pilot a shuttle if they dont want to be attack by HS NPC.s.
