Thats fair, but this thread has actually had some decent debates on this topic and I dont think it should end up getting closed, is all.
it is, like i said, nothing to do with efficincy or this that or the other. Ok let me see if i can break this down for you. i have orca and 2 retreivers. I am mining in belt. my orca has the fighting drones and the retrivers have just mining drones. the orca with the further drone range and higher damage capability etc is the protector of the group. Then I had to recall mining drones and then launch the attack drones. I used to be able to clikck “guard X charcter” and the drones would do just that. now i have to unlock the roids targetted and then wait between 10 and 20 seconds for the orca to target all the incoming rats leaving them plenty of time to move in and do damage and then i can chose the rat to target and then tell the drones i told to guard to actually do the guarding. As I said if they introduced this as some sort of in game mechanic ie skill or an upgrdae, maybe with the T2 version of the drones for instance, this may not be so much of an issue but as an attempt to try to stop afk it is just annoying and discriminatory against those people who dont pvp. It isn’t a buff or debuff for balance reasons, other than to stop some people getting a bit extra ore or isk etc.
I generally fit SEBOs to my mining Orcas. I assume you are meaning mining outside of HS or an anomoly where the rats are a threat to your Proc/Skiffs?

that is why i specifically said retrievers as they only have the room for the mining drones and are fairly weak. procurer and skiffs etc have serious beef lol whereas retrievers don’t exactly.
Ok so are you mining in HS with Rets or in other sec with Proc/Skiff?
You said Rets specifically so we go with that. But Im not sure of the validity of Rets outside of HS unless the area is in some way secure anyway.
I can take your point, but I just wouldnt use Rets anywhere that local belt rats stand a chance of actually threatening them, regardless of which type of drone control I was using.
Also, I do want to target the Rats with the Orca if theres ECM rats in there that would disrupt my miners’ laser locks
It looks like this change has been implemented today. My drones just sit there doing nothing when my mining ships got pummeled by rats. Lucky I wasn’t looking away for too long. No more semi-afk mining for me and me alts =( . I like mining and crafting stuff out of my ores, oh well, back to grinding level 4 missions I guess…
I knew it would be bad, but this is unbearable for me. Gonna unsub my alts. I cant play like this.
CCP, please offer a real money option to reenable this.
you should be able to research the skill or have the t2 versions able to auto defend and the t1 versions not etc. plenty of ways of doing this other than the half thought out effort they have put forth. then again the game has lots of things like that and plenty of stuff that should have been done before doing things like this

Drones had the hability to attack rats while you where jammered/dampered by them. Now its gone.
They still do, you just need to lock the target now.
No no, as I said elsewhere the dev team dialled the rewards down to zero if you spent too long in the same area. No player bans required or implemented. AFK farming stops when the rewards stop. Botting is a separate issue and always will be of course.
Add in changes to require some more mission like steps, like rewards being tied to travelling to X wiping out Y returning to Z. Require more steps than being afk with a MTU so only bots can afk it, and then ban bots.
Defend and rescue missions. Require defending a bunch of ships and structures, have rewards solely based on which ones survive, have waves of mobs always target them first, so an afk ships fails as long as those mission objectives are unguardable the drones of an afk ship would never attack - at least not until all mission objectives dead, when all waves of mobs could turn on nearby afk ships at once.
Have more anoms with random locations and limited spawn, that lead to better anoms with short lifespans - have it ramp up from site to site with higher and higher rewards to reward active clearing.
Add mission givers who appear in random spots and chain different activities together for rewards that multiply for building up a chain of successes.
In short make better content all over null - low - highsec - WH the solution to afk-ing and multiboxing.
For example, if you are dampered, you have to aproach a lot more now to target them. Before you only needed to be at least in the drone range. It was irrelevant if your ship was dampered.
Also if you are jammered, you cant target.

That’s already in place with the DBS system, but doubling down on it would also hurt active players, while this change is only supposed to address low to no attention ratting.

I definitely approve of this mission concept, as most missions are pretty much all about killing stuff while tanking stuff.
Requiring to bring some logi into missions would be definitely cool, and stimulate playing with others as well.
But then again, here’s the issue.
Where’s the balance of effort/reward for this?
Will it be just like incursions?
If it pays worse than incursions, and requires about the same effort as incursions, why not run incursions?
If it’s better than incursions, why bother with incursions then?
Should they scrap all legacy missions and build entirely new ones from the ground up, or simply base the new missions on the old ones?
How much time would all this take, when compared to a single change of drone aggression?
