Because there’s a difference between lacking the ability to do something, and just choosing not to do something.
yes in this specific instance they are the free alpha player with 1 point in drones and light drones. The fact that because they are fighting players gives their drones an actual in game mechanic and advantage over me with, as i say multiple omega characters and full skills etc. not through some in game mechanic or skill that they have had to work for or earn in some other way but just because there are some people who do afk stuff. why should I be penalised for the gameplay choices of others and have my capabilities changed in this manner
Wait, by this example, PvE players already have other modules that “work differently” for them than PvPing players.

When I started EvE, older wiser people told me some rules. Apart from the obvious ones like Undock in something you want to lose, and Always steal yellow cans, I was taught that Manual Control was the best way to make sure you didnt lose drones.
Was this a thing or did I just have a sensible teacher?
the efficinecies of manual over auto control are not the issue and are completely wasted mentioning here. this has zero to do with efficiency.
Isn’t it undock ships that will make you rant when you lose it?

If its about low-attentive play then efficency has everything to do with it, I would say.
the efficiency would come from the speed and power and damage output of the drones, not whether or not you have to click to make them attack an untargetted ship
Drone control is about more than that, but how would you know if you dont use Manual?
How about making sure you dont lose em? Or that they dont aggro sosmething you dont want em to?
This was definitely a thing. I received similar advice when I started as well.
But there was a noticeable shift in the playerbase sometime around 2016 (imo) where the focus changed less from learning about the game and more towards “hey, follow these optimized steps on how to train a VNI alt so you can make money.” That kind of culture definitely stuck around and is more prevalent now, to the point where we have kids like the other commenter who are too scared and unable to adapt (since they’re not just given a step by step flowchart to make easy isk anymore).
just my opinion though.

Yeah, I figured so. Its wierd, its why I just am stunned by the amount of people who clearly never actually used drones in manual for any length of time.

When you basically boiled drone combat down to raw stats and not considering player skill of assignment and control.
When you objected to this change because it was affecting your gameplay.
If you used them manually you would see no change.
