If you’re not losing ore, it’s because you’re botting. That’s against the game’s ToS. Botting is illegal.
No rock lasts that long which means that you’re using bots to pick the next rock - in addition, you’re using bots to empty your hold or compress.
Don’t lie. Be honest. You’re a botter.
Of course, if you knew anything about mining, you’d know that you’re always busy when mining. I fly a Hulk which will have a full hold in 3 minutes. That means I’ve got three minutes to move all the ore out of it or my lasers shut off. It also means that I have to keep switching to a new rock all the time as they deplete one after another. So I’m moving & compressing ore, managing drones, and picking new targets as rocks deplete.
That’s how mining works in this game. You don’t just point your miner at a rock and walk off unless you have a bot running.
they didnt explicitly state that they are cycling to new rocks or compressing, but I can easily see where that comes from.
Not losing ore while afk would signify some sort of manipulation of the game while afk, which does indeed violate some rules.
I don’t think you’re catching what I’m throwing here son. Don’t look at my finger, follow the line to what I am pointing at. I mean if you’re making money while you’re sleeping don’t be greedy and try squeeze out the last drop. It’s all gravy! I’m watching Hunter X Hunter with my kid and getting scordite in my hold. I don’t use any bots, I just point a miner at the biggest scordite in the belt, and then point the second laser at the second largest scordite rock in the belt, and walk away.
I’m old, married, have a kid back from school on spring break, a wife that wants me to take out the garbage now, and three cats that want me to play with them. I don’t care how much isk I make per hour.
Its been fun reading your posts Glenduil. I hope you’ve not fallen in the trap of constantly maximizing isk per hour and treating the game like a second job.
So if it is not about the ISK to use for something.
It is not about an exciting gaming experience (because you clearly are not even at the computer).
It is not about the social aspect of interacting with others (because you are not even at the computer).
It’s not about professionalizing in a challenging content (because you clearly don’t seek to achieve outstanding performance…).
Why the heck do you even “play” the game? If one can call that “playing”…
Then you’re not afk mining. You’re afk sitting in space doing nothing. There’s a big difference and it doesn’t matter where your finger is pointing. I don’t care about your finger.
You are not mining. You’re drifting in space in a mining barge.
That’s all you’re doing. You log in so that you can drift in space and do nothing.
That’s fine. If that’s what you want to do, that’s perfectly legal.
I would assume afk-mining isn’t 100% of his playtime and is just something he uses as a semi-passive isk generator, which is fine, because he’s not complaining about the risks of doing that (quite the opposite).
I barely have any active time in-game during the week and mostly only go do things on the weekend. My semi-afk income generator is just trading instead of mining.
Large multiboxing setups aside, highsec mining is not exactly an efficient task from an IPH perspective no matter the level attention you provide to it, for that matter; if you’re going to play actively, abyssals or missions will blow the income out of the water.
I’d argue that highsec mining actually only makes sense if you ARE semi-afk (or, again, running a large multiboxing setup). As soon as you have to actually pay attention, you should be doing something else.
It’s not, actually. Please don’t spread dangerous misinformation.
- No AFK mining allowed. All miners are expected to remain at their keyboards at all times, and are required to prove their presence by responding in local when requested by the Supreme Protector or one of his Agents.
It is kinda iffy is AFK mining is playing, but it gets me scordite that I need to build the ships I fly, the ammo I shoot, and the items I place to market.
There is no way I would sit at my computer and actively mine scordite. I hate mining, but need minerals. Can you think of a better way to go about collecting pyerite @Syzygium
Yeah. Buying it from the market, from players who don’t hate mining?
AFK mining isn’t possible- well, it’s mostly impossible. You can sit in a field in an Orca and drone mine for hours before your hold is full. The yield is low and the hold is huge.
You can AFK mine gas in Low Sec in a Venture pretty easily. It takes about an hour for the hold to fill up with gas- more so if you build a vent directly into your Pod. Those ships are T1 Alpha ships and cost nothing. Even Alpha players can do AFK mine in Low with no risk.
Pretty impossible to do it in an Exhumer though.
Yes I can. I bring out my Orca and my Hulk and mine out the entire belt of it in about 20 minutes.
The only thing I hate more than mining is paying for things I could get afk
.
Are you saying you’re going to donate scordite to me Genduil? If so I can meet you in Hek, or Rens, whichever is easier for you. I will even fly to Jita if that is better!
I think I am happier with a lower yield per hour than you are.
Give me 5b ISK and I’ll give you all the Compressed Scordite you need.
When online games first came out…..their creators had a problem of how to keep the display of numbers online at a decent level, so that others would see how many were online, and would want to play.
And thus they invented a concept of ‘camping’. This is where people get a ‘reward’ for simply being online. Second Life had this, with places where you could ‘earn’ in-game currency simply for hanging around in a region. It increased the stats.
And so it is with EVE…though its all a bit more subtle. But basically miners are ‘camping’ in that exact same manner…and being rewarded for it. It fulfils the same purpose of increasing the stats.
Most of my time is spent running missions, trading, running DED complexes, and a bit of faction warfare.
I spend no time mining, because I am always afk when I do it! ![]()
Yeah, you’re not understanding Glenduil, I get my scordite for free. Why would I pay you for it?
