Vastly more productive High-Sec Ganking thread

You asked me for Scordite. I didn’t ask you. You asked me.

So you tell me why you wanted to buy Scordite from me. Only you know.

So, why stay in HS then? You can get much more valuable things the same way in other areas. Yes, losing your miner every now and then, but the remaining profts offset that tenfold. Meaning: If you aren’t really enjoying what you do, why not at least do it efficiently?

Yes there is a better way, but I won’t tell you.

Ore you mine yourself isn’t free.

Umm, actually Glenduil, if you remember, I asked for a better way to get scordite than afk mining. You offered to pull up your Orca and clear out the whole belt for me.

Paying you for it is decidedly not better than me afking it for free though.

Yeah. There is a better way than AFK mining. Active mining. See your wording here? Active is better than AFK mining at getting Scordite.

I didn’t say it would be free. Yeah, I could do it for you, but you’re going to pay me 5,000,000,000 ISK.

You need to pay better attention to the wording.

uhm Currin Trading quit and ran away…

There is no more Supreme Charlatan or his stupid acolytes anymore

Calm down miner.

Oh I figure the going cost of it into my cost when I’m running my spread sheets.

But I am spending none of the most valuable and limited resource that I have on procuring it.

When I say its free, I mean that I’m not spending my time doing it.

it is if the miner doesnt value their own time, which is the only real currency anyone has.

I know that you’re not getting much at all if your only goal is to fill up your hold and then stop. You’re not fooling anyone. Either your hold fills up in maybe 8 minutes and your mining stops, or you’re a botter. So you only want… what… one hold full every hour? That’s it?

Which do you “hate” more, in-game botters or chat botters on the forums?

both. equally.

I did not expect this to reach 230+ posts. I am glad there has been mostly civil discussion here on the topic. There have been good ideas, some banter which is also nice, but most of all, I like that people have me blocked but still respond to my threads.

I win.

It helps that what’s his name was banned (again).

oh? someone got banned from forums?

JOHN-C.-MCGINLEY-LAUGHING

Lol @Glenduil I can tell you’re a miner! It may take me about an hour to get my mack’s hold full while I’m afk. I’m sure you get more than I do when you’re actively mining, maybe by a factor of 10 or more. The only time that I actively mine is when I’ve found an Empire Border belt.

You seem to be missing, or ignoring, an important item here. I suffer from an embarrassing social debilitation that was known back in EQ as “wife summoning”. I have a cat that loves breakfast (l’ve posted a couple pictures of him on the “Caterday” thread) that will meow for breakfast outside my bedroom door until someone feeds him, so I am always up early to fee my cats. Its ok though, because I have a nice quiet house to myself and I can play some computer games. My wife, however, finds the idea of a grown man playing video games as a sign of sloth and decadence. Somehow something always come up that she can’t do herself, and needs me to do on a Saturday afternoon. She is a petite woman and needs someone to lift bags of mulch out of the back of the SUV and take them to the right spot or needs me to take out the garbage (man’s work in her eyes) or change the oil in the car (also man’s work in her eyes) or something else. There is always some chore that crops up when I am playing video games. I’m not complaining, mind you, I get home-made sichuan food, and got a son out of the deal who I can watch anime with, and annoyingly from his perspective, I summon to help me with chores.

So I point my Mack at the biggest rocks, in the belt, and then I start on my honey-do list. I gather up the garbage and wheel out the trash bin to the curb, I unload the bags of mulch and distribute them around the indicated spots in the yard, I start draining the oil in the kid’s car. I get chores done, while occasionally popping into my computer room and setting my mack on new rocks. Getting items done on the honey-do list gives me a 10% resistance buff to wife summoning per item completed. If I can build up a 60-70% resistance in the morning before my friends get online there is a good chance I will be able to get a whole afternoon of gaming in without having to make an appearance at a tea party with my wife, or go to Home Depot to buy extra fertilizer and mulch because it is on sale, or worse yet, the bane of every married man, take my wife shopping to Designer Shoe Warehouse!

So my strategy may not give me nearly as much ore as if I was actively mining, but it gives me a very important resistance buff against wife-summoning. The hold or two of scordite that I get is all gravy. Its more than what I would have gotten if I was not mining, and it the tasks that build up resistance against wife summoning go faster somehow.

I’ll be honest in general i dont have many issues with suicide ganking; its piracy. However it does cause some issues, suicide ganking freighters on undock in jita for example is probably not good for the game, neither is suicide ganking nubs in ventures.

So, with that said i think there is scope to bring it down a notch by story or mechanical means or even by providing some sort of suitable replacement.. can greifing and hs wardecks did do that years ago but changes made them not really viable in the same way they were (they became over simplified, dull)

One of the issues was neutral reps which were basically outright banned; which is understandable as some folks were using far too many making gameplay or countergameplay one sided, i dont believe an outright ban on such mechanics were really the answer but a reduction in their use or possible use would have been better; say for example one or two dont get the attention of the navy or concord but 3 or 4….
In the same vein jet can greifing lost its fun when you simply became a viable target for everyone; i prefered the old system by far where corporations could choose how it would play out..

EvE is enjoyed.. or was enjoyed by many because it was difficult, because a smart person could utalise mechanics available to them to surprise others.. it was enjoyed because there was nuance - this has gone from almost all aspects of the game now. Shame really.
