Letā€™s talk about skill requirements, mastery tiers, and the ship information panel.

We have long said that the mastery tiers for ships are not good. They were a valiant attempt by CCP to try to put all of the sprawling information about skilling into a ship into one place, but the resounding response I see when a new player asks about them is ā€œIgnore mastery.ā€

For this example, we will be using the Republic Fleet Firetail, because it is a powerful frigate option that is available to Alpha players.

The shipā€™s skill requirements panel has now been merged with the mastery panel. While I want to like this idea, the problem that will invariably arise is this:

New Player:

I want to fly a Republic Fleet Firetail, because Iā€™ve heard itā€™s pretty good!

New player looks at the shipā€™s skill tab and sees it takes Minmatar Frigates lvl II to fly, but is immediately drawn to the mastery cards.

I donā€™t want to be a scrub in my Firetail, I should queue up skills to ā€˜git gudā€™

New player scrolls over to Mastery IV

Sweet, merciful Jesus! Itā€™s going to take me 9 months to ā€˜git gudā€™?!

Oh, only 4 months if I buy Omega. $80 for ONE ship. EvE is P2W BS!

Our new player is now struck over the head with a serious time investment to get to what the ship info screen implies is 80% effectiveness with this ship and is further told that EvE is no different than a cheap mobile game with its horrendous Omega marketing.

It also doesnā€™t help that the Omega restricted skills are included in the Alpha training time estimate.

If I, a veteran player, look deeper into the mastery cards, I see that Mastery IV for the firetail has some wonky skillpoint investments that I would never recommend to a player that wants to take a Firetail out into pvp as soon as possible and be effective.

Weapon Upgrades V? Gunnery V? Shield Compensation skills? None of these are even remotely necessary for flying at 80% effectiveness in any frigate, let alone the Firetail.
Also, whereā€™s Capacitor Emissions Systems for Neuts? Whereā€™s Thermodynamics? Why are we so dead set on misdirecting new players about what is and isnā€™t useful?

My proposed solution is pretty straightforward but will require a lot of player-input to implement:

  • First, the easy one, remove Omega skills from the Alpha training time estimate for Mastery Tiers.
  • Second, a focus group should be assembled from the player base to rebuild the Mastery Tiers so that each tier, reasonably accurately, corresponds to N/5 of 90% effectiveness with a ship.

I would consider someone with Tech II projectile turrets, tech II tackle, and IVā€™s in most support skills to be at >80% effectiveness with a Firetail. I think most players would agree with that. That skill train actually takes waaaaay less time than the Mastery IV tier for this ship.

Implying that the +2% rate of fire from Gunnery V is part of being a competitive Firetail pilot is foolish. Doubly so for Weapon Upgrades V (what nonsense to imply that you need that extra 3% turret CPU reduction to be competitive with a frigate).

I use the Firetail as my example ship, but Iā€™m sure that pulling any random ship from the bin will show similar headscratchers.

AND THESE SILLY HEADSCRATCHERS ARE ENDEMIC OF A DESIGN PHILOSOPHY THAT WILL INEVITABLY HURT NEW PLAYER RETENTION
ESPECIALLY WHEN PRESENTED SO PROMINENTLY IN THIS NEW FEATURE

Why oh why CCP the new ship Info page looks awful, showing way too much information which is not really needed! any why add the ship into the view we already know what we are flying. it was ok before you changed it!

So I logged into the game now and a couple of thingsā€¦

  • Contrary to popular opinion, I really like the new ship overview. If you are having trouble with the model of the ship obscuring the text, you can zoom out (using scroll wheel on the mouse) or click and spin the ship out of the way so that it doesnā€™t obscure the text.

  • Santums and Havens, new waves that warp in do seem to target drones. With Forsaken Hubs, they donā€™t.

Marauder nerf:
Nullsec systems now donā€™t spawn enough minerals to support more than 4 people per system because you canā€™t make enough to cover losses. Roaming gangs like to run around and gank people. This was offset by marauders. Since marauders have been nerfed into oblivion small corps in rented systems have no defense against roaming gangs.

The problem isnā€™t that our mining characters will get killed, itā€™s that we canā€™t undock and engage in pvp. Weā€™re outnumbered4:1. Now marauders just melt. You can kill a marauder with a couple of lokis. Weā€™re literally better off in a cruiser than a marauder. You canā€™t hit them in a marauder. So now marauders really serve no purpose. All that training and skillpoints down the drain. Sure I can extract points and move them, at a cost of 5:1. Thatā€™s crap. Whenever thereā€™s a nerf like this we deserve a point for point respec to respec out of the gear that got nerfed.

Whoever approved this doesnā€™t understand the game.

They used to. Oddly enough, releases back then were better and less controversial.

Thanks for the Skinnr updates. Some feature requests going forward:

  1. It would be useful to be able to see in the Paragon Hub how many skins you have sold of a particular design so that you know what is selling and what isnā€™t.
  2. It would be useful to have a PLEX update within the PLEX Vault or your Wallet so that you can see PLEX sell transactions more easily when you sell skins for PLEX.
  3. Iā€™m not sure if PLEX transactions are part of the API because I canā€™t find any third-party app that displays them. If Iā€™m at work and I want to see how things are going with skin sales, I have to login into the account page and hover my mouse over the small icon at the top of the screen to see my PLEX changes and then I donā€™t know what sold.
  4. It would be useful to be able to list sales for both a PLEX amount and ISK amount instead of either/or. It would be most useful to be able to specify a time on this, so that if a skin is not sold for a PLEX amount after 2 months say, it would say that the skin is now available for ISK. But that might not be useful to many.
  5. It would be useful to be able to search for skins by character that created them, by name and by collection (maybe this is there already but I canā€™t see it).
  6. It would be useful to filter/search for skins by groups (e.g. ALL Gallente skins, ALL Destroyer Skins) rather than merely by specific hull.
  7. It would be great to have some sort of player vote on skins and/or some system to see what skins are popular and selling. A simple 5 star system as in many e-commerce sites would even work.

All sites are broken. Iā€™m ratting in drone horde and yeah sure visual are good but the game plays sucks. I canā€™t orbit around the structures and I have to recall my drone back every time when the new wave are coming and itā€™s quite a waste of time. So the solution for me who got main income from ratting 10 hours a day is either Marauder that you just nerf and make itā€™s more vulnurable not include the new carrier spawn and risk to lost 2b every site or invest 8b to either RNI or PNI that are also vulnerables to gankers especially when resource and people are spread out.

CCP Please play your game donā€™t come up with ideas that are just plain ignorant the constant targeting of drones from rats will kill the player base you have ratting is no meant to be exiting content its meant to be something you do while chilling like mining . Honestly it is not the our fault that you cant control Bots that is a you issue to deal with making us hate doing an activity is not the way to go more people will just leave this game.

love how the changes to rat aggro were not in the notes at all.

Revert the drone aggro changes and remove the point from the NPC dreads. Havenā€™s are literally unplayable now.
