I just realized I don’t think there was a single mining change made after I joined the game I liked. I hated the introduction of waste. I would have preferred compression be on the industrial command ship instead of fleet wide so that Hulks give their boosters more work to do because of all the jetcans they create. I mean yes as a miner this is more convinent that giving everything to the fleet boss, but conceptionally I don’t like it. I hated the addition of more minerals to Scordite since that crashes the price of Pyroxeres. I don’t think it was fair null sec got boarder asteroids and low sec didn’t. Pretty much the state of mining I like most is the state of mining in the form I joined the game in.
I don’t like the introduction of rare ore like kernite back into HS as signatures. I sort of like of putting some of the ores back into high sec. But I’d prefer it to be back in mission pockets like it used to be. So before I was in the game these ores were in signatures and mission pockets. I would have liked them to be in mission pockets, but they brought it back to the one I’d rather not come back to. I don’t like the introduction of the new mining ship.
At this point, some old veteran might say “Yeah back in my day, we mined in combat ships and it was awesome because people had to jetcan ore and sometimes there would be ore thieves. I’d catch one of those thieves with a warp scrambler and surprise him because I had guns on my ship. Nowadays even if I mined in a combat ship, people would know I was baiting since no actual miners do that. They never should have added mining ships. Mining was the best when I joined the game” and I’d say “man, it sounds like you had a lot fun… but I actually like barges and orcas and think mining was best when I joined the game.”
After spending some time with it, I have to say: as much as people wanted a dotlan style map in game, this feels like a downgrade in every respect.
I can no longer zoom in to the solar system map to create tacticals. I now have to open the probe scanner to launch a new window for that scanner’s map in order to create tacticals.
No tilt or rotate, only pan.
Pan velocity is extremely sluggish. I have to hold the mouse, lift my wrist, and make repeated sweeping motions across the desk while holding the left mouse button to move the map between regions. Using a trackball instead of a mouse is a stopgap in order to preserve wrist health.
Because I can’t rotate, readability of system names is frequently compromised due to overlap with jump/route markers.
Much more difficult to look for connections when planning a roam.
New industry content is good, I’m actually enjoying looking for lowsec gas and mining anoms. I think with my skills I can fill the Pioneer gas hold in about 15-20 minutes, so depending how long it takes to find the gas anom, that’s good risk and reward for new pilots. It is ridiculous that huffing gas makes tumbling boulder sounds, though.
I haven’t tried the Kisogo arc because that’s too far to fly for three missions, and I heard it was borked anyway.
Please consider a significant overhaul of the 2D map. Lowers QoL irrespective of gameplay.
I use the map regularly to check if there are certain population hotspots around my area of activity. Dotlan does not show that, and I do not want to engage in Rorschach tests to figure out what’s going on. I want a map that is easy to read, easy to the eyes; I do not want a pointless Mona Lisa art piece.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the new 2D map places regions, constellations, and systems almost exactly where they are on the Dotlan map. The debate is mostly about visual design choices. It’s like arguing whether a cup is half empty or half full. One of the main issues is how to display connection lines, given that all regions are linked together on the 2D map. With solid inter-regional connections, entire regions end up looking like they’re behind or in front of purple jail bars. This is probably the biggest difference between Dotlan and the new 2D map.
Of course, you can still use the old map or the 3D map if you prefer. But the point here is how to build a better new map—something that’s currently a work in progress.
Feel free to share your own thoughts as well. You might come up with an even better idea.
That is not a solution for long because CCP will remove the classic map in due course, especially now that they have created another abandonware-replacement for it. By the time they remove the old map, I want the new maps to be usable, useful and not an eyesore.
The new module already elucidated the relative values better than before. The only benefit I can see from this is simplified market searches for ore.
The UI noises added when stopping the ship is annoying. Sometimes when exiting warp you need to spam ctrl-space to abort docking/jumping as soon as you land. But now it is just constant triple clicking noises. Maybe a single click for feedback would be enough.
The useless squealing wind noise in asteroid belts - Delete it!
Lowering ambient sounds to 0 in settings isn’t a solution, it mutes other sunds too.
Just get rid of this wind noise.
Why can’t we search for Doomheim’d characters anymore? I just noticed that a scammer I had as contact completely disappeared, and with it all the info I had in their Notes tab. This is not really ideal.
