Visible mods for ships (ie. double stats for the same price as your ship with size upgrade)

can we haz?

I don’t quite get what you want to tell us.
Maybe give us a bit more words we can look at, kkthx.

imagine a venture main hull with way bigger front ore holds and boosters on them and twice as many turret slots. visible mods. not just skins for your ship but actual structural mods.

Not sure if this is what you mean but I always wished that different types of cargo extenders, afterburners, shield extenders, armor plates, etc… had an effect on the ships model.

I see.
That definitely would be cool.

But if it goes even further than the appearance of a hull - you mentioned more turrets - it won’t just be a challenge for the art-team, but also a huge balancing problem.
Look how long it took CCP to rebalance the T3 cruisers.

The idea itself is great, don’t get me wrong on that, but personally I lack the confidence to dare to dream of this. When I look at the roadmap… well not even soon™.

No, no no, oh gods no, just no.

On a more serious note, this would be pretty horribly imbalanced by any metric I can come up with. What on earth would make you think this would ever happen in a million years OP?

Visual appearances shouldn’t mean THAT much to a pilot… if you are playing the game zoomed in on your ship so that you can even see such things then you are playing it wrong.

However, knowing that you are repping Quafe in your Thanny is exilerating.

that’s definitely what I mean. one should be able to mod the ■■■■ outta any ship. itd be cool if there was third party and custom skin stuff too maybe a skin editor

or howbout make it player content third party stuff

What your suggesting already exists in the form of t3c’s and it is hard enough to keep those balanced.
As for player made skins, that has been a top suggestion since forever. The issues are that either they allow customization with no dev moderation. In which case we get hello kitty nyx in 2.5 seconds. Or potentially eula breaking skins (swastikas etc)
Option 2 is that skins need to be moderated and approved first. But then they need to dedicate a ton of time and money to the staff required to go over every single submission.
There are better uses of dev time.

Now, afaik there has been some talk that the new skin tech could allow for alliance logos on ships. Which I think is a great direction to go. And MAYBE in future they could open it up to allow alliances to submit a color template that could be used as a skin. (Limiting it to the corp/alliance level like with the alliance logos could limit the massive submission spam. Especially if they are limited to 1 corp/alliance skin at a time and can only change it every x months)

Like modding?
Yes that definitely would be cool stuff.

But just like Bjorn already said: With no staff looking over it a Hello Kitty skin would be not the worst you would get to see. Just look take a look at the top mod files for e.g. Bethesda games. There is a ton of “adult” content, to say the least.

I would like mods for CQ and avatars.

It’s not your ship you shoukd be looking at. Being able to tell the difference between small guns on a ship and mediums based on the models is important Intel.

If I see a maller with medium turrets, I make it a higher target than one with smalls. I know the small turret maller has low DPS but high tank. No turrets on a vexor me and drones and neuts.

Changing the visual without the structure deprives us of visual Intel which is not a good thing.

Oh so you just want to have CCP spend an absolutely massive amount of dev time on a super complicated cosmetics feature that will massively balloon the size of the game install and lag the crap out of the client when it has to try and display the two hundred penises objects that someone has decided need to go all over the front of their Avatar…

OP, I really really hope you have some idea how impractical custom models would be…

A SKIN editor is maybe sorta being worked on but even if CCP do go that direction it’d have to be curated by them lest someone make a penis-ship or plaster some copyrighted album cover all over their fleet or something.

not custom just specifically for barges like the venture having bigger oreholds which should be visible in order to be realistic and three useable turrets if not four.

One, Eve is not realistic. The whole universe runs on distorted space-time and nanotech, or as the player sometimes call it “space magic and pixie dust”.

The Venture is already a perfectly serviceable ship, it doesn’t need any significant buffs. If you want a better mining ship either upgrade to the Prospect or upgrade to a Mining Barge or Exhumer.
