I think this change was good for the game. It can cost hundreds of millions of isk for gankers to destroy one ship. Wardeccers should expect similar cost.
Shouldn’t then the thread title rather be “War Cost Raised for The Poor Only”?
Because only the poor are affected here. 500m isk is nothing for rich/nullsec/established players. So the rich can continue to lay fire everywhere and the poor can not take part in it anymore.
If you want PvP, go to nullsec.
Unless if you don’t want opponents who strike back, of course.
Who is talking about PVP? If i focus my lasers on an Athanor then resources drop.
It is just advanced mining and doesn’t require any interfering players to be present.
People in distress only write crap.
He joined two ideas at the same time, war cost raised it’s now for the rich only.
Which I don’t really see the problem, if you going to start a war for real, 400mil is pocket change. What you going to fight with? T1 catalysts?
Ofc the distress come from the shenanigans. Nobody wants to spend money on shenanigans.
If you can’t afford the wardec fee, you can gank barges instead!
Would you rather have 1 quantum core, or a hundred dead miners?
You only quoted part of the patch notes with War Declarations - There is still a return if you loose no ships and there is no loot as long as their is a core thingy so stop your complaining.
Maybe your the carpet bomber Feneris was talking about.
What it will do is encourage more Corps to setup Stations for you tards to then War Dec and blow up ![]()
hey, it means less wardecing for the quantom cores anymore
No one cares about quantum cores. If you want to know about war… Why not ask someone with 15 years exp instead of none?
There is only one corp that does wars and that’s because of war Hqs. The cost is irrelevant and so are the cores. The cost only inhibits anyone from trying to engage in the content.
You can request a meeting with ten trillion on you and you will be laughed at. What do you need to know? Opsec respected.
I read the patch notes and they are evidence that CCP doesn’t understand the power dynamics or the economics behind wars in high sec.
The entire change on wars was directed literally at Black flag to remove wars even further from high sec. If you want to make the state of wars better you have to introduce competition to Black flag. Not solidify a power Monopoly from the top.
In fact reading this thread is direct evidence that none of you actually understand how wars work. A few of you seem to have a clue but mostly it’s just false assumptions. Don’t get offended just ask if you’re confused.
I totally understand why BF leadership ignores all of you. It’s almost comical.
I have personally funded wars for mercs since 2009. That’s a very small group… Used to be five of us. Isn’t that way anymore.
Feel free to share some of your experience then. I think most people would be happy to have an actually well-working wardec system in place where farming of newbro corps is not really attractive but wars between medium and larger entities are entirely possible.
From my limited perspective:
-
any war having an at least somewhat reasonable background (aka leaders hate each others, entities being direct rivals in an area or in economics, mercs being hired for whatever…) is totally unaffected by this change. 500M or 100M, thats all peanuts for someone having a real reason to go to war against someone else. Hell, that isn’t even the costs of a single module on some blinged ships out there. And it’s definitely peanuts for a group like Blackflag. For any target worth declaring, that amount absolutely doesn’t matter, even if it was multiple billion ISK per war.
-
spamming mass-wars against small groups still is possible at a much reduced profit rate. Yeah you will get the 500M back when looting the other sides structure, but if it was empty, not much more. Needing to show up at least 2 times and shooting a timer is pretty unattractive.
If you have to add some thoughts, feel encouraged to do so.
i approve of this increase, wars need to be meaningful, not just bully the smaller corp trying to setup an industry to provide supply for the demand
nobody thinks you are BF, they don’t do ■■■■ talk ![]()
I agree but the cost only works to inhibit smaller corps from actually having access to wars. The correct answer would have been a limit on the amount of wars based on the total or the member count of the target.
Would you like me to explain the costs?
We have a dedicated Astrahus just for this purpose, this is also a expense of being in a war, not just the cost to bribe Concord, another cost is dedication, manpower and skillpoints for the whole team, so yes it is true if you not have tripple digit billions, wardecing is not really feasable, but then if you don’t why would you since there is nothing to fight for? i read between the lines that you can not defend a HQ, but thats a manpower and coordination problem. and if you not have the manpower, you have the choice to not have structures, or pay someone to defend them for you.
The real question is what you are so salty about? i can’t see a meaningful loss recorded on your zkill. you either talking for someone else, in that case it would be nice to learn about your experiences, so we all can learn somethings from it.
Well, your choice. I always want to learn more things and tbh, the concept of HS wars is imho a cool idea to create some content.
But on the other side, having used mercs in the past and having worked for money in the past, the amounts of ISK we are talking about here seem to be so irrelevant that I can’t really see the issue. Not sure how it is different with HS wars than in other regions of the game, but if I hire mercs or go to a paid campaign, the costs start at two-digit-billion ISK contracts, open end depending on how much force is needed… 400M more or less in some formal fee would make no difference for any side, the costs simply are put on top of the payment.
So, as a veteran player, I fail to see how 500M wardec costs (or even 2B or 5B) would have any impact over my decision to actually go to war. Thats peanut money for most individuals playing on a level that would make funding own wars or hiring mercs an option and literally nothing for an established group.

scratching head…
Is my english that bad? You should probably be able to read the question out of my text…
“What role does the wardec fee play at all in deciding to wardec someone if you have any good reason to do so?”
It isn’t ..
a atahnor is pretty much the only structure that actually makes money in Highsec, paying a merc to keep it in one piece is just another expense, and still the athanor will make money, this makes Moon mining the only no-brain activity in highsec that is actually profitable ![]()
OP has 3 choices
- Don’t care, treat the structure as a tool and just replace it when destroyed.
- defend it, themselfs but this will cost significantly more than a few hundred mill to hire someone doing it for you, the cost of plex every month alone, the ships, skills SP and IRL, timezone coverage and other things is going to be huge.
- pay someone and forget about it.
since Blackflag was named specifically, i can tell you from experience that just the knowledge among the wardecers that you are a client of them is enough to keep them off your back, and you can get on with your day dodging like 90% of the wars before they even start.
You guys are talking about stuff that doesn’t even exist and isn’t even an option. Does anyone here actually have experience in high SEC with wars? Could anyone please point out your experience directly involved with high SEC or wars?
Brag about yourselves a little bit I want to hear about what you have done that’s related to wars and hisec.
I have 15 years of experience with hundreds and hundreds of wars… I’ve been a member of almost every single mercenary Corp that has existed… Top killer and CEO in most alliances I’ve joined or ran my own. Do any of you guys have any experience with wars? I would really like to know who I should be speaking to with experience and who is just working for their own goals. Matter of fact I’m pretty sure that the only people who have done more war than me is Blackflag and PIRAT and the almighty marmite…
So who else here is actually a mercenary or has actually been involved in wars? And I mean the aggressor not the abused… No one? I’m not surprised that it’s just a bunch of no-sec guys and people that have issues with black flag…
haha nailed it. (i need to get more popcorn .. this is gonna be good when OP wakes up)
but yes you are right, its just a business, like any other, i mean thats why we get stuff over night trough amazon, its not because mom-and-pop decided to open a delivery imperium, its because amazon did.
wardecing is the same, a operation like this costs money, dedication, knowledge, and time.
You either bring it yourself or outsource (just like the drop shippers do)
well there is a point to be made that there are good and bad actors, but “good and bad” is not defined by the actions they do in game but the conduct they maintain.
and just like in any other universe real and fictional, there are both types. and some may appera bad to one but being a blessing for others.
If you are someone with HS war experience could you perhaps share your insight in HS wars?
It would be nice to hear from someone with HS war experience.
Like, what do you think HS wars should be, what the HS war problems are, what changes you think are needed to improve the wars and how this latest change affects the wars?
