War deccing needs to change

Then I’d like to see it really return to the old days- I’d like a return to POS days- no citadels or asset safety for any system- high, low, or null. No Keepstars, Fortizars, or anything else. Go back to the old days of using an alt as a valet just to log off in a capital to keep it safe.

After all, Null used to be tough. Now they can park a cap in a citadel and pay a fine if the citadel dies.

I’m not an idiot and I do remember. That’s why I said that I’d like a RETURN to that. You can’t return to something if you never lost it. Seriously… go back to school. They can help you.

And it’s sometimes a SIX hour timer- some reports put it at 7-8 hours. So no, it’s not a 4 hour timer.

Seriously… go to school. They really can help your reading comprehension.

I want to RETURN to perma-ice fields.

Idiot.

it’s better to not engage in the name calling. they will start it then abuse the report and flag functions as a result.

When people only show up to derail and attack people instead of discussing ideas, they become a plague. Similar to some players that do not want to play eve, but want to play world of warcraft with space ships, some of these forum folks do not want to use eve forums, they want reddit.

I think one beneficial change would be to stop tying the war to a structure. If CarebearFlag wardecs some miners, the war shouldn’t end unless they surrender. Destruction of the structure should not automatically terminate hostilities. The defending party should be allowed to continue the war as long as they wish, forcing CarebearFlag to actually fight the war.

You don’t need a Citadel to mine Moon Ore in HS. You need a scout that tells you where other peoples Citadels are making MoonRoids go boom. And then you just mine that ore, it’s open space.

No, they weren’t, and among subcaps, most of the cases where a ship did have an outsized price jump, it was simply due to tiericide normalization (ca. 2012-2013) and not whatever reason you’re imagining.

Yes, and ice mining was famously atrocious income because of that.

The entire reason they did away with permanent ice fields was to make it more worthwhile for a normal miner to mine it.

Here’s a 2013 thread prior to the change discussing this incredible highsec income you’re hallucinating: Updated ISk per hour Ice mining? - Science & Industry - EVE Online Forums

Some highlights:

A few mill per hours. You can do it AFK in the gallente empire space. System such as Deninard, Tolle and Angymonn are good choice. Pretty quiet.

Scratching my head about even wanting to know this. Mining Ice for direct sale is indeed the lowest ISK/hr activity ingame.

ICE mining profits were up for a while after the ship changes. But due to how easy it now is to semi AFK ice mine ICE has dropped way down in value. Fuel blocks have dropped from 16-20k isk/unit to 12-14k isk/unit. But are just as profitable as they were due to lower ice costs.

I am down to each ship making around 10 mil/hr mining ice, while I can do 25 mil/hour mining ore. And that was a month ago, It is even lower now.

These are from January of 2013; Ice moved into anomalies in the summer patch that year.

Here’s the dev blog about that change, which also has some interesting statements: https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/resource-shakeup-blog#ICE

At current levels of ice product usage, all of the ice needed for the entire game could be provided by only four ice belts (one of each ice type).

Ice mining was bad even by the standards of high sec mining at the time. Who’s to say why you remember it being otherwise, but you are definitely misremembering.

Even if it wasn’t 1/4th, it’s 1/2. Cost of an Orca Hull when first released was 1 Bil. It’s been seen as high as over 2 bil a year ago. It’s 1.5 bil now.

Hulks when they came out were 100m. Now they’re 200m and a year ago they were 400m.

You’re awfully bitter when you respond to my posts. I had terrible mining skills back the first time I played, I never purchased PLEX, yet I could always afford new ships. Are you sure you’re feeling okay?

T1 ships (which are dependent on high sec prices) are similar to what they were back then. Capitals (like an Orca) and T2 (Hulk) are dependent on resources outside of High sec and are not a result of War declarations rules. Battleships, are very much similar price of what they used to be thanks to recent changes to the bill of materials and the drop of pyerite.

That’s… nonsense.

Hulks premiered on the market at close to half a billion; they were released during the era of the T2 BPO lottery when cheap T2 ships simply did not exist. A year ago, they were around 300m, and the highest daily average in the last year in The Forge is 310m.

Hulks in the 2011ish era that you’re remembering as The Good Ole Days were almost the exact same price they are today. The day average in The Forge on 4/1/2011 was 185,897,997.

Some battleships did, indeed, triple in price since 2011, but it’s because their build costs were normalized. An Abaddon costs basically exactly what it cost in 2011, but you could get an Armageddon at that time for 50-60m.

I don’t count that, as the ships were also buffed to match those of the former Tier 3 Battleships.

No argument from me on that point.

You know what? You’re right. Ships always cost as much as they do now. There has never been any inflation in this game and High Sec mining has always been 5 ISK per hour. Whether it was ice or Veldspar or moon mining. In fact, mining a permanent ice field that didn’t despawn for 6 hours somehow netted the exact same profit as only getting to mine ice for 30 minutes like it is now. It’s exactly the same. There was no scarcity and everything in this game has always been exactly as it is now. Nothing has changed.

The “somehow” is just supply and demand. It’s not a difficult concept. Ice mining was extremely poor isk per hour because ice was effectively infinite in supply.

Highsec income has gone up tremendously since 2011, actually. So that’s different.

I do believe prices have changed quite a bit over time. Most of the time it’s been tied to changes made in game, and sometimes there is some just from players doing things to manipulate what they could before someone else flooded in with cheaper of whatever.

One of the things that I have noticed is that highsec ice goes fast simply because so many people show up with their own fleets. There are some things that make me think that there is some botting going on with quite a few of the regulars to the ice fields. On the otherhand, i’ve also noticed that miners in those belts arent busy bumping each off the field like they sometimes would. I also havent noticed an increase in “ganks” when certain miners show up very often anymore either.

I don’t know what exactly is going on, but it appears that some of the, let’s call it aggression, between miners has died down a little. Personally, that does not feel good to me. Competition and what a person would do to ensure their own slice made mining somewhat interesting.

You’re exactly right. Demand vs supply then somehow exactly proportionally matches demand vs supply now. Having Orcas now that require Heavy Water from Ice and fuel blocks that also require ice now when Ice fields are just an anomaly in no way impacts supply vs. demand now that ice can only be mined a few of times a day at most unless you’re willing to travel great distances.

You’re 100% right.

I mean, I linked both posts with actual figures from the day, and a dev blog that explains the change in detail.

Ice mining earns more today than it did in 2011. Things are somewhat more expensive, but not to the degree to which you’re pretending, and a big reason why they’re more expensive is that incomes are simply higher in 2026 across the board than they were back then.

I don’t know, ole chap. I remember orca’s costing 600-800 million isk

Yes? And?

You stopped typing before you made a point.

They could never cost anything different than they do now.
