Why do they still exist in the game in their current state when they can’t even stop a single frig from locking you down? Wouldn’t it be easier to have just removed them instead of reworking them into the current state?
You do realise that they are active modules and that you have to turn them on to either break the scramble or as a pre-emptive measure?
Why should CCP remove these useful modules?
It’s a good tool to ignore a warp scrambler or multiple warp disruptors. Of course it’s not infallible - people can theoretically bring more scrambler and disruptor power than you can ignore, but that doesn’t mean this module isn’t yet another layer of safety you could use for your ships.
Because of the downsides of the warp core stabilizer (slower and shorter targeting, less drones) it’s rare to see this item used in player versus player combat. As a useful side-effect this means that common PvP fits won’t take warp core stabilizers into account as countering a WCS does take a considerable investment with multiple mid slots or more expensive faction warp scramblers.
This means your ship with warp core stabilizer can often ignore other ships even if they do have tackle, simply because they didn’t prepare to hold down a warp-core stabilized ship.
That sounds pretty useful to me!
Sure, if they know you’re likely using a warp core stabilizer they can counter it, but that’s the rock-paper-scissors nature of this game. Existence of scissors doesn’t mean paper is useless.
Yes, yet a single person scramming me has always been enough.
Out of 10 encounters where I have a stabelizer equipped I got out of 1 thanks to it so far.
And yes, I do use the Meta ones.
Multiple people? What kind of steroids did you put your Stabelizers on? A single caracal or Tengu or whatever is always enough to lock me down despite my best efforts to escape and then more warp in and I’m just dead.
Even with only 1 person having a target lock on me, 9/10 cases activating my Core Stabilizer does nothing, I still can’t warp.
I get that having them as passive modules that stack would “make the game too easy”, but I’m fed up with trying to haul my ■■■■ to any market and getting randomly ganked in high sec and having no counterplay
And there it is. This has nothing to do with warp stabs. Just another high sec ganking whine thread…
Indeed it would, and that’s how they used to be. They were passive modules, and if your ship had 8 low slots, you could stack 8 of them.
Even though they are now active, and you can only fit one, they come in quite handy on ships that already have warp core stabilization built-in, like the Venture and DST’s.
Look at me, I put warp stabs on my venture.
If that is the best use for them, then you answered my question
Long story short, if someone tackles you with dual faction scrams, you aren’t getting away. Period.
Makes sense. Seems like I’ve been extremely unlucky so far then.
If you are mucking about in low sec or null, your best defense is ECM drones, and hope they can break the lock long enough for you to warp out.
nah, high sec is already too deadly and devoid of fun interactions. I think I’ll be taking a break for a while
Thanks for the advice tho
After a short investigation it appears you got tackled by a Phobos with scripted warp disruption field generator.
No amount of warp core stabilizers now or in the past would have saved you from that, as it is 100 warp core disruption strength you need to overcome. That doesn’t exist. Not even a faction titan (60 warp core strength or 62 with WCS) could get away from that.
Warp core stabilizers are not at fault here, but the fact that you got caught by a heavy interdictor.
Bro doesnt even know what I’m talking about
How do I lock this thread before I get more wannabe sherlock holmes
I assume you were talking about your most recent loss where you had a warp core stabilizer fit to your Alligator, which didn’t allow you to warp away from the Phobos, leading to you making this thread to call warp core stabilizers useless?
no, that was me being stupid and trying to take the shortcut. I fully deserved that.
I was just ganked in my Miasmos trying to sell my gas, and a single ship was enough to prevent me from warping to the next gate despite the active stab, holding me there until more arrived and killed me.
My issue is neither with ganking in general or faction scrams or double scrams. Its that apparently stabs don’t do anything unless its a singular T1 Disruptor that is pointed at you
Well that’s a downside of using a cheap T1 hauler.
An Occator would likely have been able to warp away with it’s innate +2 warp core strength if you had another WCS added.
Buy me omega then
Why would I do that?
So I can follow your helpful advice and fly an Occator, duh
